Jacksonville Reviews
Rating 3.83 out of 5 1,608 reviews
My overall experience with Jacksonville is bittersweet. May be biased on how I feel because I moved away from my hometown to live in a city I did not know of. However, living in Jacksonville for the past four years has taught me many things. I would not have attended one of the best prestigious art schools in the country where I have grown so much as a musical and academic student. The opportunities offered at my school are life changing and I am glad to have been a part of them. Although I had to leave a place I loved and become an outsider, living in Jacksonville taught me that everything happens for a reason and experiences will come. I did not think my passion for music could expand to something more however my high school changed that. Being exposed to different arts made me appreciate and learn to enjoy them. I now continue enjoying music and hold the memories of my journey with me. Without Jacksonville, I would not have been able to accomplish things I did not know I could.
Jacksonville is the largest city in landmass in the contiguous United States and has the mentality of a one traffic light town. Jacksonville has been consistently 25 years behind the times, lacking everything a major city should have. The town is very southern and has been controlled by 1 Baptist Church downtown for decades. It's heavily conservative, some areas have horrible violence, other areas have racist groups such as the KKK where the people crow about it openly and made it known minorities were not safe in their area. There are pockets of decent areas, but a town like Orlando shouldn't have more opportunities than Jacksonville but Jacksonville has sent many major brands running for the hills. It will probably never change here.
When I first moved here I experienced the streets with 3 kids. Very hard to get help. Crime has gotten worse. Health facilities not good especially orange park. Some of the home health places need inspection. The elderly and disabled is not getting good care. Apartments does not make it feel like home. The Harrass and control your life. Bad things happening doesn’t get taken care of. People are very rude hateful and crazy. Drugs bad. Don’t come to Jacksonville if you have kids or live paycheck to paycheck. You will get stuck. I been trying to movie to the gulf coast a while now. Atlantic coast from Jacksonville to Miami is horrible. Jacksonville is the worst. If it must be this side go to St Augustine or Orlando. Jacksonville is not safe. Schools are constantly getting threat to be shot up. Sometimes really a lot it happens. Teens and young adults here are crazy. I been here since 2014 and it’s 20 times worse since then.
