I can just say it's an amazing, feel good, uplifting album. It's a very danceable, groovy album. There are ballads, there are uptempos, there are mid-tempos, there's something for everyone. Even in the most vulnerable sounds that's a bright side to it, it's normally talking about situations she's been through but uplifting you as a person, that if you've been through this, you can make it through and giving you a real open and uplifting perspective on how to make it out just fine.
1) Jackie (B.M.F.) - This song has Ciara being unapologetic about being cocky; as she should be. For those who don’t know, B.M.F. stands for “bad mother-f**er”. In the song, Ciara says; “Man I just delivered a 9 pound 10 ounce baby, I’m a bad mother-f***er.” Yes ma’am you are! Ciara raps/sings the verses in the song while dismissing all of the people that constantly hate on her. The track is bass heavy and even switches up the beat almost 2 minutes into the song. Ciara has been in the game for a long time and this is her 6th studio album, so she has the right to hold her head up high and make a song about her accomplishments.
2) That’s how I’m Feeling (ft. Pit-bull and Missy Elliott) – This song has Ester Dean and Polow Da Don written all over it. Ester and Polow Da Don are all about perfectly blending Pop and R&B, and this song is no exception. It has a fun and bouncy beat to go along with verses that boast about Ciara’s body and dance moves to a gentleman admiring her moves. Pit-bull and Missy’s rap verses add a nice touch.
3) Lullaby – Ciara keeps up the sexual vibe on this track, singing to her boo how she will “put it down on him” so well that it will put him to sleep. It is bass heavy also while being fun and flirty. Ciara stays true to her Atlanta roots on this track.
4) Dance like we’re making love – The explanation to this song is in its title, she wants to dance with her man as though they are making love; pretty self-explanatory. I love this track; its production is simple, it has adequate bass, it is sexual, and it is fantastic to dance to. This has Ciara written all over it, and I hope she does a video for this song and kills it with the choreography!
5) Stuck on you – This song reminds me a lot of Janet Jackson. The high vocals, the experimental Asian beat, and the playful lyrics teasing her lover with her sexual vibes. You can tell she had fun with this track while singing “I want to get stuck on you tonight.” This is just a really fun track to dance to.
6) Fly- Ciara comes out singing on this song about letting her lover fly away if he isn’t happy with her. Ciara belts out the lyrics with strong vocals coupled with a bass heavy beat. To me this is an anthem about self-empowerment and releasing the negative aspect in her life. It’s also perfect for anyone starting over in their life from a bad breakup while simultaneously being a very nice song to dance your troubles away to.
7) I bet – This song has Ciara airing her dirty laundry about her bad breakup with her child’s father, Future. Ciara basically boasts how you never miss something until it’s gone, and doesn’t shy away from the fact that she does love him but she is moving on. We have all been there. Ciara is stripped down on this song and isn’t afraid to show her hurt or her anger. It is nice to see Ciara bare her soul to this song. It is a stand out track.
8) Give me love – This is a fun disco/electronic song that has Ciara singing to her lover to love her the right way or not to love her at all; basically she will only settle for his best, as we all should. This is definitely a club track to get people off their feet. It is uplifting and fun to dance to.
9) Kiss & tell – OK, this is my absolute favorite track on the album. I truly hope she releases this as a radio single with a video to go with it. It has an 80’s feel to it with contemporary R&B mixed in. She sings about how she just can’t keep to herself how good her man loves her down. “I know I shouldn’t kiss and tell/ about the way you do my body, babe/ But I just got to tell somebody/ how you do it, how you do it to me”. Yes Ciara! She is giving me my life with this track. It is fun, sexy, light-hearted, and great to dance to.
10) All good – Although not the strongest track on the album, it is still a fun track that pays homage to her Atlanta roots, while also giving a shout-out to Outkast in the lyrics. She boasts about her love of Atlanta while offering a fun and light hearted beat to rock your head to.
11) Only One- This is another track where Ciara shows her singing chops while also providing another anthem for the broken hearted. With lyrics such as “I’m not going to be your only one/ just when I’m the only one around”. This is a nice pop inspired anthem for those who refuse to be treated like second best. It’s a strong track for Ciara and she did a good job on this one.
12) One woman army (intro) – This is a nice little intro for the accompanying song. A little military style singing, some drum-line style beats, and synchronized singing; it’s nice.
13) One woman army – The beginning is very reminiscent of a Katy Perry’s song “California Girls”, and later goes into a drum, clap, and bass heavy anthem about needing a man who is up to the challenge of being with a woman like her. She sings about being a one woman army and will only have a man who can keep up with her. “If you want my love/ you better march to the beat/ if you want my love/ you better stand up for me/ if you want my love/ that’s how it’s got to be.” She knows what she wants and she’s not settling for less. You go Ciara!
14) I got you – This is a beautiful track dedicated to her baby boy, Future. She even features his adorable laughter on the track and you can’t help but to smile when you hear his cute little self. She beautifully sings to him about the troubles that he will surely face in this world, but reminds him that his mommy will always be there to pick him up and carry him through the hard times. It is just a touching song from mother to child and it is a stand out track.
15) I bet (remix ft. Joe Jonas) – I absolutely love this remix. Joe Jonas has a beautiful voice and it blends perfectly with Ciara’s. I actually like this better than the original version. Sometimes when there is a featured artist, they don’t really bring anything to the table; that is not the case on this track. Joe was a terrific addition to this track and now I only listen to this version. Joe should definitely look into doing soul music like his little brother. They have the perfect voices for it. Love it!
16) I bet (R3hab remix) – Another remix to Ciara’s breakup anthem that has a pop/electronic dance beat to go with. This is a great track for the club to get people on their feet in an electronic club. It is fun and a nice take on the track. I like it.
So to wrap this up, this is a decent album in my opinion. Ciara provided us with good songs accompanied with perfect dancing beats, and even bares her soul on a few of the tracks. She is growing as a person and it is showing on this album. This was a great effort.

As a whole I don’t find ‘Jackie’ to be as instant as ‘Ciara’, there are some instant hits for me: That’s How I Like It, Lullaby, Dance Like We’re Making Love - AMAZING, I Bet, Give Me Love, Kiss & Tell - AMAZING, Only One. Then there are the growers: Stuck On You, Fly, One Woman Army. And finally the songs that just haven’t clicked with me yet: Jackie BMF, All Good, I Got You.
Like ‘Ciara’, ‘Jackie' has a stronger pop influence than her earlier work but I love this direction she’s heading in. I don’t want her to abandon her roots completely but it’s great that she’s trying something new. In fact, post ‘Ciara’ I actually appreciate her earlier work even more. She has such a varied back catalogue now and has quickly become one of my favourite female artists in recent years.
All in all, a very strong follow up to the incredible (and criminally underrated) ‘Ciara’. Hopefully, ‘Jackie’ will bring Ciara the recognition and appreciation she deserves.
