Jack Tempchin: A Legendary Songwriter

Early Career and Collaborations:
Jack Tempchin, a San Diego native, first gained recognition when he was signed by Clive Davis to Arista Records in 1976 as part of the band The Funky Kings. Their track "Slow Dancing (Swayin’ To the Music)" became a Billboard Top 10 hit in 1977, recorded by Johnny Rivers. Tempchin’s compositions have since been performed or recorded by a multitude of artists, including Johnny Rivers, George Jones, Buck Owens, and many more.

Associations with Eagles and Solo Career:
Tempchin's association with the Eagles, particularly his compositions "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Already Gone," solidified his reputation in the music industry. These songs are prominently featured on the Eagles’ compilation "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975," recognized by the RIAA as the Best-Selling U.S. Album of the 20th Century. He also co-wrote numerous hits for Glenn Frey’s solo career in the 1980s, including “The One You Love” and “Smuggler’s Blues,” among others.

Film and Television Contributions:
Tempchin's contributions extend to film and television, with his songs featured in notable productions like "The Big Lebowski" and "Thelma & Louise." He also co-wrote the theme song for the long-running TV series "7th Heaven."

Recognition and Achievements:
In 2019, Tempchin was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to music. His lyrical manuscripts were exhibited at prestigious institutions like The Grammy Museum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Additionally, the city of San Diego declared December 1st, 2012, as "Peaceful Easy Feeling Day" in honor of Tempchin and the song’s 40th anniversary.

Recent Ventures:
In 2024, Jack released a full-length movie titled "Midnight Jack The Movie" to critical acclaim. Jason Mraz hailed it as "An Amazing Movie, a masterclass in songwriting and in life."

Tempchin's enduring legacy lies in his ability to craft timeless songs that resonate across generations, solidifying his status as a legendary songwriter.
