If I’m Estevez I start coaching Velasco that every time he beats a player he immediately picks his head up and plays the simplest ball into someone feet. He routinely makes other players look silly in the first five yards and you can tell that he just wants his next touch to be a world class assist to go with beating the player. But more times than not, his hard work ends up in naught because he forces the pass. If he starts turning those moments into a numbers advantage moving forward in the final third, he will be crazy good for us. He may even score more goals if he continues his run after playing the easy pass.
It’s almost always overdoing the pass or trying to oversell contact and draw a foul. I’d like both to get worked out of him, but I’ll be fine with either. He’s a very skilled player and has a great eye for goal, but his development has been too slow for what this team has needed from his spot on the field
