Anna Faris is getting raw, candid, and real in her memoir Unqualified.

In the book, which is due out October 24, Faris shares intimate stories about her life, including the emotional struggles she faced when she learned her son, Jack, would be born several weeks premature.

"When you have a healthy pregnancy, you never wonder if you'll get to hold your son right after," Faris writes. The actress went into labor at about 31 weeks into her pregnancy at age 35, and says her husband Chris Pratt was there to support her every step of the way.

"Chris was amazing," she says of the time she spent on bed rest during her pregnancy. "He decorated my room with posters and photos and he came to the hospital every night after work with desserts for me and, sometimes, a six-pack of beer for himself, and he'd just sit with me and hold my hand or crawl into bed."

Jack was born in August of 2012, and within minutes the newborn was immediately rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. On the fourth day at NICU, Faris says she remembers the doctor telling her and Chris that their son's health had worsened.

"The pediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled," Faris says."I was in complete shock … So Chris and I did what we could, which was hold hands and hope and face it together."

The newborn remained under close care of doctors for a few more months, which only brought Chris and Anna closer together. "It felt like it was us against the world," she writes.

Jack is now 5 years old and in much better health, except for some minor vision problems and leg muscle issues. And though Chris and Anna recently announced their separation, the parents remain a tight-knit unit for the sake of their child.

"Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward," the couple said in a joint statement in August. "We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."
