With a Weekend Shutout, Resurgent Jack Campbell Moves to Six Wins in His Past Seven Starts with Bakersfield - The Hockey News American Hockey League Skip to main content

Jack Campbell has found his game in the American Hockey League.

Soup, as he's affectionately known to fans and teammates, stopped all 29 shots he faced on Saturday night to blank the Ontario Reign for his third shutout of the season with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.

The victory moved Campbell to six wins in his past seven appearances while marking his second shutout in his past four outings.

Campbell, 32, a first overall draft selection of the Dallas Stars in 2010, was sent to Edmonton's AHL affiliate in November following a tumultuous start with the Oilers in which the veteran netminder put together a brutal 4.50 GAA and .873 SP start through five games.

His hot run of late has moved his current AHL record with Bakersfield to 16-11-0-3 with three shutouts, a 2.60 GAA and .920 SP.

With the Oilers seemingly a lock for a playoff position, Edmonton could recall Campbell to suit up beside the stellar play of starter Stuart Skinner for a lengthy playoff run. Though it perhaps makes sense to allow Campbell more runway to work the remaining kinks out of his game in the American League, where he'll split the workload with 23-year-old Olivier Rodrigue (14-8-4, 2.71 GAA, .918 SP).

The Condors currently sit in fifth place in the Pacific Division with a 32-21-2-2 record and 68 points, having gone 6-4 in their past 10 outings. Seven of the 10 teams in the Pacific Division qualify for the Calder Cup Playoffs with six points separating teams three through seven.
