I was unsure about this, but i think i'll trust El Mundo better than wikipedia.
For those who can't read spanish, the El Mundo article says the albanian football federation got in contact with him because of his last name. However, his last name is catalan and he has no relation with Albania.
I searched for the frequency of this surname in Spain and it exist in Catalonia:
