What’s a game that hit you right in the feels and/or made you cry at some point?

I just finished Gears Of War 3 and got to Dom’s sacrifice. I figured with knowing what happens, it would make it easier and the answer is no. Still bawled like a baby. Any other games that hit you right in the feels?

Mass Effect 3 - Mordin Solus "Had to be me, someone else might have got it wrong". It wasn't tears but definitely a gut punch of feeling, combined with the music in the scene, just so moving

Edith finch, such sad, melancholy whimsy

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Played it while my kids watched and we were all wrecked.

Playing through Persona 5, Futaba's Palace, and seeing what she'd been through and why she was the way she was, broke me.

RDR2 is the closest video game writing has ever come.

Tell Tail's Walking Dead Season 1

Poor, poor Lee. :(

It was rough. Teaching Clem how to survive up until the end.

Edit: Happy cake day!

Katawa Shouju

This is the only visual novel i ever remember playing, and is also the only "adult" game that i can remember playing.

I initially started playing because it was just a weird setting, and people were saying it was very moving. While most of the story lines were fine, none of them were particularly emotional for me. But then i met Lilly. That story line made me cry. I'm happily married, but for the next few weeks i constantly dreamed of Lilly.

I may have shed a single tear here or there with a movie or game, but only one movie in my adult life actually made me cry (Be With You), and only one game (Katawa Shouju).

I'm afraid to revisit either of those two pieces of media, for fear that my reaction will not be anywhere near as strong, and it will in some way ruin my memory of them.

A Way Out

Witcher 3 when Geralt finds Ciri

Last of us prologue

Nier Automata ending(s)

Brothers: A Take of Two Sons.

A remarkable game which uses a unique control scheme that somehow managed to enhance the story.

Metal Gear Solid 3

"There's only room for one Boss... And one Snake." Then the game waits for the player to pull the trigger

  • Life is strange 1 + Before the Storm

  • Beyond two Souls (especially the homeless chapter)

  • Ending of AC: Black Flag, when the girl starts singing "The parting glass"

  • AC: Origins, the beach scene with Bayek and Aya

  • Detroit: Become human

  • RDR2

The end of Bishock Infinite Burial at Sea when the voice actress sings You Belong to Me kills me.

AC III, returning to the homestead after Achilles Davenport passed away.

My father had passed away earlier that year, and that memoriam scene with Connor just crushed me.

Journey's ending was very emotional, especially with multiplayer.

Max payne 2

Mass effect 3... Damn you, Mordin! Why did you make me do it?!

And for my wife, she was crying her eyes out at the end of Shadow of the Colossus.

Final Fantasy 15, when Noctis had to say goodbye to Ignis, Prompto and Gladio who are basically his brothers at that point. As for a tears of joy crying, I’d actually pick Tales of Arise during the end credits. Seeing Alphen and Shionne getting happily married put a massive smile on my face.

The march to skyhold in dragon age inquisition. The dawn will come will always be one of the most inspiring and emotional moments in a video game for me. Especially as in my first play through I had spent as much time possible completing as much of the first couple areas as possible. So I already had a good connection to the various characters. Even the chantry guy who spends the first full act scorning you had come around to respect you and your efforts.

Doom

The last one I remember was the end of gow ragnarok, when Kratos.. you know..

The Last of Us intro always gets me. No matter how many times I see it.

Gone Home as well had a sweet story that surprised me as it unfolded.

Beyond Good & Evil, the big Pey'j moment.

Man I can't remember a thing about that game except that I loved it at the time

Its easily my favourite game of all time. Replayability is top tier.

Zero Dawn. That story just enraptured me and kept building. Utterly destroyed me with the sentiment in that final cutscene with Aloy.

A Plague Tale Requiem made me ugly cry in a way only life has so far. Honestly no piece of media has ever goten as strong of a emotional reaction out of me as that game did.

Wow I just started that game, I can’t wait to get emotionally destroyed…

Just make sure to keep the tissues close.

2020s kids will never understand the pain and anger that came when you were playing FFVII for the first time blind before the internet and Aeris got knifed by Sephiroth.

u/EvoAnubisX avatar

True story! And it was so unexpected! I had never played an RPG where a main character could actually die before, so it came out of nowhere far as I was concerned.

Game set us up by making her gear and skills awesome and absolutely vital to the party. You even got to take her out on a "date". It was all a setup. And there was nothing you could do to prevent it. Rumors were that you could do some crazy steps to get her back, but those were all lies.

You could GameShark her back in. That was about it.

Vesemirs death in the Witcher 3 got me a bit

FF7: Crisis Core final battle where you are reliving his memories as Zach is dying. The “hello!” Was the worst.

Idk if the remake has the same fight.

This might be a controversial topic yet an unpopular opinion but TLOU 2 broke me. Say what you will about the constant hate & complaints regarding this game, but the actual story itself was pretty emotional, raw, unprecedented and a bit divisive. It doesn't necessarily tackle the core issues in black and white but paints so much grey in between it makes you both speechless and nauseated after the credits starts rolling.

RDR2 and Last of Us 2

The Yakuza games all really know how to tug at your heart strings. The end of Yakuza: Like A Dragon was so heart wrenching but great. Working my way through the rest of them and they all seem to be amazing intense stories.

The moment that hit the hardest for me was when you find out who Kiryu is writing his letter to at the end of 6.

It's either that or fighting Nishiki in Kiwami since 0 was my first Yakuza game. That shit was hard as well. Hell while we're talking Nishiki, the entire moment between him and Kiryu in the woods in 0 was really impactful as well.

And to continue the train, although it didn't hit as much on my first playthrough. The moment in 0 where Nishiki walks up to Kiryu and decides to fight with him. Both throwing their suits off and revealing their backs. That one really stings on a replay.

And this isn't even half of the emotional moments from these games. Man what a fucking series Yakuza/Like A Dragon is.

If it wasn't for the silly minigames and atmosphere outside of the main stories I don't know that I could handle how intense some of it is. It really is amazing. I didn't discover this stuff until yakuza like a dragon came out and it hooked me.

I fear I might come of as overly dramatic telling this story but here I go:

Endgame spoilers fore "Fuga Melodies of Steel":

My favorite Videogame is about a groupe of animal children that go on a quest to save there families. And on my first playthrough I did not got the golden ending. So after the fight with the Final Boss a heroic sacrefice was neccesary in order to stop the big bad, save the country and there families and hopefully end the war. All the children volunteered and it was up to me, the player, to decide which of these children gets to die this heroes death. 1 out if 11. I choose an 8 year old orphan girl.

The interesting thing is through more playthroughs, unlocking more Link Events and watching the shorts the creators released on YouTube about the characters these children grew on me more and more including the girl I sacreficed. This made that moment retroactivly hit harder despite me having reached the golden ending so many times alrady. She is/was such a wonderful child. I did not cry but it hit hard. No other game made me cherish the lifes of my protagonists this much.

The name of the girl I sacreficed is "Wappa Charlotte".

Halo Infinite. Game is just sad. You can still hear people crying and raging about how it should have been.

I’ll mention Devil May Cry 5 for how happy it made me feel. Playing through all the older ones was worth it for the hype of 5. Didn’t make me cry but the experience made me feel a lot. Not just sad.

MGS3 & The Boss.

The last battle in okami still gets me.

God of War Ragnarok has plenty of moments, RDR2, the prologue of TLoU. But it's the end of God of War 18 when Kratos hands Atreus the ashes and says, "Carry her."

Making my nose flair thinking about it.

Shadows Die Twice made me cry the first time I played it, then Assassin’s creed 2, the scene was devastating. Lastly girls with guts, i didn't cry, but i got emotional.

Your baby metroid from Metroid 2 dying after saving and protecting you in Super Metroid

Saints Row 2 Red Asphalt.

GTA5 when Trevor drives back Martin Madrazo's wife (who he had kidnapped) to him.

Both of them have feelings for each other but know nothing can come of it. Trevor knows this is the first and last time he'd ever care about anyone and is distressed. She tries to comfort him.

In a hyper violent game a surprising moment of strange tenderness from the most violent character!

Many of us can look back and recall meeting someone we'd have loved to spend the rest of our time with but that it was just not to be.

Life goes on! It must.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - when Sora and Kairi reunites with Riku

Zelda:Breath of the wild its the ending of the dlc i nearly bawled

The ending of Yakuza 6 is such an emotional roller-coaster that I didn't know how to feel.

Someone already said FF7, so I'll say Zelda. The nostalgia of it takes me back to a time of traumatic events. I'd say mainly link to the past or ocarina of time. Plus, it's just awesome.

u/FalseRainFall avatar

Ghost of Tsushima got me when the Horse died. To have picked it at the start only to lose it at the lowest point hurt.

Bioshock Infinite, Bookers choices at the end had me tearing up and God Only Knows playing over the credits broke me.

To the Moon. Was not prepared for the "This is how good life would have been" montage at the end.

Half Life 2: Episode 2. Had me just sitting staring into the void during the credits.

Ace combat 6.

I thought shamrock was gone.

walking dead telltale i cried for weeks

Ori games. The music still gives goosebumps and makes me sad.

FFXIV quite a few times.

When Terrako sacrifices himself in Zelda Age of Calamity 😭

Edited

the ending of castlevania: lords of shadows.

my man Gabriel already had a hard time but that ending was so damn rough and it totally makes sense how he willingly tuned into Dracula afterwards (the DLC shows it).

cried like a bitch the first time I saw it and even now gets me to tears as I rewatch it.

here's a video, the ending starts at the time I linked.

1st(and only) time playing Oblivion....and finding Lucien's brutally mutilated corpse.....I was absolutely stunned.
