DORSET rising star Jonas Guthrie tested his skills against Chelsea’s academy wonderkids after receiving a call-up to the England Independent Schoolboys squad.

Guthrie, who also represents Dorset-based Champion Sports’ under-15 side, played for his country’s representative school side in a two-game event at Cobham, Chelsea’s training headquarters.

In a fruitful two days, Sherborne ace Guthrie bagged a superb brace against Fox Academy before turning in a creditable display against Category 1 Academy Chelsea FC where he faced Isago da Silva, son of Chelsea and Brazil veteran Thiago Silva.

Champion’s chief Dan Neville said of the Leweston School student: “We are delighted that Jonas’s hard work and dedication has been recognised internationally.

“Jonas has excelled in our under-16s this season and thoroughly deserves his opportunity. This is Jonas’ third call up which speaks volumes about their belief in him.

“The weekend was a superb learning opportunity with two varied challenges against Fox and Chelsea.

“The feedback on him from their staff was very good and two goals and an assist against Fox and playing against Thiago Silva’s son is definitely something he’ll remember for a long time.”
