[Question] So I just finished season 1 of Arrow. How good are seasons 2-5?

So I have been watching Arrow season 1 over the past week and I was about to start season 2 but then I discovered this subreddit and before I continue, I want to know if seasons 2, 3, 4, and 5 are just as good, if not better than season 1.

2 is great, 3 is starts good, and descends to mediocrity, and 4 is bad.

5 has been pretty good so far. This sub is pretty mad about the most recent episode (5x20), but I personally think it wasn't that bad.

Season 2 is orgasmic. Best season of any television show ever, imo.

Season 3 is okay-ish. Gets bad in the last few eps, but overall its okay-ish.

Season 4 is complete trash. Don't bother.

Season 5 is great. Probably not better than S1/S2, but still great, and quality stuff.

Hey, man. This isn't really related to the topic at hand but can I ask you something? I've actually been meaning to ask you for quite awhile now but I keep forgetting, plus I haven't seen you around for quite some time.

The question is, how come you created r/CWArrow? For the record, I don't really have anything against your sub (clarification because I know that some people here have a disdain for it). I know that it's not an Olicity apologist club like some believe, but the fact remains that the premise of your sub is to discuss the show while pretending that a certain fandom that revolves around a certain relationship does not exist.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that, mind you - while I personally am perfectly happy with the way r/arrow is, I can see how it's not for everyone. I was really surprised though, when I found out that you were the founder of r/CWArrow. I mean, if my memory serves me right you were quite a prominent poster on this sub during its glory shitpost days (post season 4, pre season 5); and much like the rest of us, revelled in circlejerking about, and bashing Olicity. This is the exact opposite of what your sub preaches.

So my question really isn't 'why did someone even create r/CWArrow?' but rather, 'why did u/Gintoki79, the r/arrow shitposter, of all people, create r/CWArrow?'

u/Gintoki79 avatar

Hey! I'm surprised people remember me lol. I have been busy

Well, the sub was created for 3 reasons, at least mine reasons. It was more of a collab effort, so other admins had other reasons, so i can't speak for them.

  1. The bullying of a certain olicity fans, threats and stuff. That bothered me. You might remember the user pattyspivot.

  2. Shitposts are fun, but too much of anything is bad. So r/arrow felt like a shitpost zone, with no topic discussions.

  3. Feels good to be arrow subreddit founder

Contrary to the popular belief, that we don't allow olicity criticism, we actually do, as long there's valid reasons. Not just senseless posts like 'fuck olicity' without reasons. I guess the aim was to make the subreddit a more of a discussion orientated forum.

Season 2: Complex storylines and characters, fantastically written and acted antagonist, a vast improvement over the already great first season.

Season 3: A step down in quality with only a few episodes that return to the greatness that was season 2. Villain starts off fantastic, ends as a disappointment. Still a pretty enjoyable season when you watch it back to back.

Season 4: A heap of garbage from beginning to end with only two or three legitimately entertaining and emotional moments. Watching it in its entirety would be a waste of your time on this earth. Season 4 really falls in quality in every department; garbage Power-Rangers-like fight scenes, unfitting and poorly written villain, underwhelming Oliver, all characters and plots become centered around one character who isn't Oliver which becomes annoying as fuck, important characters get pushed to the side for the entire season while minor characters who have no relation to the main plot overstay their welcome. Highly recommend just reading a summary of the season and moving on to season 5.

Season 5: A return to form. Badass fight scenes, badass Oliver (and his acting becomes so much better), badass antagonist (with an incredible actor), badass everything really. A very small amount of low points and a very high amount of high points. Episode 17 of season 5 will be your favorite episode. Even the worst episodes of this season aren't that bad, they have a lot of redeeming qualities.

Stop watching after season 3 and continue with 5.

S2- great

S3- Sucked

S4- Sucked

S5- Arguably akin to S1/2

Wait, I see you only have "Sucked" for both season 3 and 4. I think you're missing a couple derogatory adjectives in your description of 4.

Season 2 is the best in the series

3 is decent but extremely disappointing compared to 1 and 2

4 is horrible

5 still isn't as good as 1 or 2 but still pretty good overall.

How does 5 compare to 3?

u/ContentiousDouchebag avatar

5 is considerably better in pretty much every aspect.

Season 2 is amazing, definitely watch it.

Season 3 is alright, there's a drop in quality after 3x09 but it's not too bad.

Season 4 is complete and utter garbage.

Season 5 is pretty good.

(Good)S2 >> S1 > S5 >>>> S3 >>>>>>>S4(Shit)

Season 2 = great.

Season 3 = this is where everything started doing down in quality.

Season 4 = this season never happened, 4 is the death number in asian countries.

Season 5 = it has a really great main villain. But some team arrow characters are really retarded whenever they speak.

Imagine a roller coaster. While watching season 2, you're still climbing but, unfortunately, that climb ends at the start of season 3. From that point on, it is a fast descent into hell which is season 4.

And season 5? While some might say it is just as great as season 1 or 2, I actually see some of the problems from season 4 still going on in season 5. But, it is not bad. It is better than season 3 imo and can't even be compared to season 4 despite suffering from some of the same problems.

I wouldn't recommend season 4 to an enemy. So, just find the old synopses from u/OnBenchNow and read them to get a general idea about the season. Watch 3 if you want but it goes bad quick or at least it did for me.

Ok

Season 2 : awesome

Season 3: Crap

Season 4: mega-crap

Season 5: purgatory between season 3 and 1.

purgatory between season 3 and 1

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

u/Azukir avatar

Definitely an improvement over season 4 but still not quite season 1.

I see. Thanks.

Watch season 2. Watch season 3 up until the mid finale (you'll know when that is). The show ends right there, since nobody can kill the demon.

Check out the episode guides on the far right navigation panel to catch up on S4. Only watch the episodes that seem intriguing - which will probably only be S4E18 and S4E19. The rest of S4 is crap.

season 2 is the most faithful adaptation of Green Arrow and it's one of the best seasons of any show.

season 3 had great ideas and some good character developments but it was often dragged down by another unnecessary love triangle, teasing deaths after following a weak story arc revolving around a character's death, weak villain, Malcolm Merlyn being ruined, Laurel's subplot being mostly Laurel keeping secrets from her father and Oliver making idiotic decisions.

season 4 started off fixing issues of season 3, bringing back a dead character and making the show not dramatic again and I was enjoying it until Flash crossover bringing up a thing that basically caused a bigger drama that made me lost respect for Felicity, dragging the fun villain without any development, Felicity's mom, once again Malcolm Merlyn's character being overused, boring flashbacks, killing off another character in an insulting way and a lame ass conclusion. I'll say Vixen and Constantine episodes were damn great but I wish the story arc would be cool but nope.

season 5 finally brought back the show's crime thriller theme, drama is mostly toned down, most of new characters were great, season 1 is addressed in such a smart way, the villain is actually compelling and twisted, it brought Oliver's deepest desire in such a disturbing way, it called out the show's moral hypocrisy and Felicity's flaws near the end and flashbacks were compelling. For the first time in a while, I'm actually excited for how everything will be wrapped up.

so yeah, sesson 2 is fucking perfect, season 3-4 are mediocre and season 5 is just great.

good luck catching up to us m8. <3

Season 2 is fantastic, a step up from even season 1, season 3 it kinda dips a bit and is sorta weird, season 4 is mostly bad, and like really strange choices are made by the creators/writers and it's just awful sometimes, and 5 has been solid, and in a lot of parts really damn good again.

u/thekamenman avatar

So I have a somewhat controversial opinion on Season 2, it's great and you should by all means watch it, but at points for me the drama became unbearable. Deathstroke is an incredible villain and wasn't matched until Prometheus, but Laurel was annoying as fuck at certain points. Season 3 started strong and went downhill, Season 4 is an absolute dumpster Fire, and personally Season 5 has been my favorite.
