She's the Aussie TV star best known for her portrayal of 'Pat the Rat' on Sons and Daughters.

But Rowena Wallace's character onscreen couldn't be further from her persona in real life, with the now 70-year-old coming clean about her dalliances with a fellow co-star.

Rowena told The Daily Telegraph this week she was 35-years-old when she enjoyed a night of passion with her son on the show, and an actor 13 years her junior, Peter Phelps.

While admitting it 'wasn't a mistake' she blames having a 'drink or four' as the main reason the tryst happened.

They were both attending an after work drinking session when the rest of the group broke off, leaving the pair to make their way over to Sydney's Northern Beaches region.

'We wound up in fact all the way over on the northern beaches, where Peter lived on his own in an apartment near the surf,' she said.

'We were down on the beach after having a few drinks when Pete suggested we go for a late-night swim, I stripped down to my knickers.'

Because she lived on the other side of town she humbly agreed to stay, saying that they had a coffee and chatted before things turned physical. 

'Before I knew it we were in the bedroom and as we climbed into bed, the rest is history,' she admitted.

'We both realised it was just something nice that had happened but it wasn’t going to continue and we both accepted that.'

At the time Rowena was at the height of her career, with her role on the series winning her a Gold Logie in 1984 and four Silver Logies - so she kept silent about their one night stand.

She went on to play June Reynolds in Home and Away and Mary Casey on Neighbours. 

Peter Phelps also had a successful career, starring alongside Keanu Reeves in Point Break and appearing as a lifeguard in Baywatch.

He married Donna Fowkes in 2000 and the couple have two children together.
