Is 24 worth watching?
Like the title says, is 24 worth watching?
I was thinking to start with it because looking for a new action packed show but saw it has more than 200 episodes.
Wondering if it stays consistent after time.
I watched season 1 when it came out and I liked it a lot. Not sure how well it aged, though.
It aged like the Iraq War in more ways than one
Not well. Season 1 was great at the time but might not hold up this many years down the road. Every following season was progressively worse.
The increasingly weird ways they had to come up with to keep Kim involved developed a certain Penelope Pitstop quality quite quickly.
But its still good. I watched it back in 2001 and was mesmerized. I agree that it got worse and more implausible that someone would have so many days like this without snapping like a twig.
I don't think it peaks in season 1. Season 5 is usually considered the best. It declines pretty hard around season 6 but the first 5 were all well regarded.
It is fairly consistent, especially through the 1st 5 seasons. I did re-watch the series a couple of years ago nd felt it still holds, but I did see like 5-6 of the seasons fully when it aired originally.
Peak was season 4 and 5; and you could stop at the end of 5 and have a somewhat contained ending.
I thought the first season was great.
It had multiple highs and lows.
S1 was great.
S2 was ok.
S3 is skippable.
S4-6 were the peak of the show. Seasons 4 and 5 in particular are almost always at the top of most people's best season lists.
S7-8 were both good mostly if you get invested with the characters by that point.
Live Another Day was very good.
Season 5 may have been the peak of the show, but season 6 is honestly the worst season of the show and I don't think it's close.
I thought it was very good up until season 6 but the later season were okay not great. It does get more unrealistic every season but the format of the show itself keeps things very entertaining and unique. Even at its worst it was still entertaining and very watchable.
It depends what you want and how you watch shows. Like it's one of my favourite shows of all time but if I had to start it now, when TV is so much better and there are great new shows coming out all the time, I don't know if I'd be able to. It came out in a completely different era, it had to produce 24 eps a season and that means, often, pretty long lulls in the action. Plus with 9 seasons, some aren't that great. If you want a background show or are OK with that and want something long to binge, then yeah, it's worth it. If not you might have a hard time through some of those seasons.
Like I said, it's one of my favourite shows of all time but I often wonder if that's somewhat painted by nostalgia and the fact that watching TV even just 10 years ago was a completely different experience.
Easy show to binge watch, theres a cliffhanger at the end of almost every episode. Requires endurance watching because instead of 10-12 episodes per season, its 24.
I started rewatching it a couple years ago but bailed before finishing it. I didn't think it aged all that well, but YMMV.
Then again, I'm getting more used to 10 episode per season shows that don't have so much repetition as 24 had. 24 used the same Perils of Pauline Cliffhangers way too often to hold up under binge watching in my opinion. It just seemed too repetitive on rewatch.
Yes. Even today.
S1 was great, particularly the first half, and it's pretty self contained. Takes a rapid downhill turn after that though, it has to contort itself into some really weird places to make the format work and for whatever reason it goes off the deep end after S2 or so politically, trying to come up with scenarios where the only solution is torture. Apart from anything else, the novelty of that wears off quickly and it starts getting a bit contrived.
S1 is well worth it imo. But treat it as a miniseries and leave it at that.
I never cared for it.
No.
24 has to be one of the best shows I ever watched but that was back then, the first five seasons like everyone said are the best there is to it, the 9th shorter season is pretty good too, but it's only if you will really binge it because I tried rewatching it again and some of the issues with the show becoming more glaring, it becomes more and more like the same recycled routine shows up in every season.
If you do end up watching it, just skip the daughter storyline in Season 2. It's just infuriating to have her presence in the show. I do hope you give it a try, the show is absolute binge watching material and I'm sure on the first go, you'll have a lot of fun with it.
Don't worry it might sound like a lot of episodes but I'm pretty sure it's only like a week of in universe time lmao.
Actually rewatching it now, currently in season 7. It’s stays pretty consistent but the last couple of seasons there is a dip but still very watchable and enjoyable. Highly recommend!!
