Irina Shayk Reveals Her Effortless Outfit Formula, Exclusively for InStyle

Spoiler Alert: It involves sweatpants.

Flawlessly capturing the effortlessly cool girl aesthetic is no easy feat, but for supermodel Irina Shayk, it's a way of life. Not only has the face of Aritzia’s newest Sweatfleece campaign mastered the off-duty model look — equal parts loungewear, athleisure, and a dash of luxury, — but she's elevated it to an art form. Even better, she's shared her effortlessly elevated outfit formula, exclusively with InStyle, ahead of the Aritzia campaign launch.

So how does one emulate Shayk's chic look? First and foremost, Shayk tells InStyle, comfortability is key. "Comfort and ease are my priorities," she says. "Because I’m always on the go, I gravitate towards loungewear that looks polished that I can dress up or down." As for a piece-by-piece playbook, Shayk shares that she'll, "usually have on something cozy like a hoodie or a pair of sweatpants, but pair it with a sleek coat or tailored blazer for an elevated look that’s not too serious." 

Shayk's other favored fashion pairing that ace the effortlessness test include, "an oversized hoodie with a tailored trench, or a bodysuit with baggy sweatpants and a heel." According to the supermodel, the key is "finding the right silhouettes and pairing them with quality fabrics to create a polished, effortless look." Of the latter, Shayk says, "I chose an incredible Yohji Yamamoto dress and diamond collar necklace [for the Met Gala] because the look was comfortable but elegant and I embraced that comfort for the after party. I changed into a white tank and sweats because I wanted to do something different, but still felt comfortable and sexy!"

As for how to create your own off-duty elevated 'fit, Shayk is a believer in staying true to your own sense of taste. "Effortlessness comes from embracing your own personal style, which for me is a combination of comfort and sophistication," she says, adding that, "the cool factor is a natural result of the confidence that comes with putting together an outfit that is uniquely you." For Shayk that means sticking to her ride-or-die go-to casual separates.

The supermodel prefers hoodies over zip-ups, roomy sweats rather than form-fitting yoga pants, and bodysuits over T-shirts. In terms of styling her fave everyday essentials, Shayk is taking inspiration from Paris Fashion Week. Having walked the runways for esteemed fashion houses including Schiaparelli, Mugler, and Courrèges this season, Shayk is putting her first-hand experience of Fall/Winter 2024 fashion trends to good use. " I just got back from Paris Fashion Week," she tells InStyle, "and am so excited about what I saw for Fall. I almost never leave the house without a jacket or long coat, so I can’t wait for some major outerwear moments this year."

While we were equally moved by the statement coats and jackets seen on the Paris runways, we're even more excited to see how Shayk styles them. Our money is on something effortless, chic, and starring a cozy Sweatfleece layer or two.
