      Critics Consensus

Ip Man 3 isn't the most tightly plotted biopic a kung fu fan could ask for, but the fight scenes are fun to watch -- and at times, the drama is even genuinely poignant.

David W Whilst not quite as on point in the drama stakes as the first two movies, it compensates with some some truly astonishing martial arts choreography. Another brilliant entry in one of my favourite action drama series of recent years. Yen is again nothing short of superb and provides the soul and beating heart required as well as the astonishing martial arts skills. Brilliant. I've seen 100's of martial arts based movies but this is genuinely jaw dropping in terms of the remarkable fight choreography. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Fade Its narrative is not as agile as its choreography, but Ip Man 3 provides some sincere development for its titular character. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/23 Full Review Jackson87 "Ip Man 3" is a martial arts film directed by Wilson Yip, starring Donnie Yen as the legendary Wing Chun master, Ip Man. The movie features some of the most breathtaking martial arts action sequences I have ever seen on screen, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre. One of the standout elements of the film is Donnie Yen's performance as Ip Man. He brings a quiet intensity to the role, displaying both grace and power in his fighting style. The chemistry between Yen and his co-star, Lynn Hung, who plays Ip Man's wife, is also a highlight of the movie. The film's antagonist, played by Mike Tyson, adds an interesting dynamic to the story, and the fight scenes between him and Donnie Yen are truly epic. The final battle between the two is a real treat for fans of martial arts cinema. While the movie does have some flaws, such as a slightly convoluted plot and some uneven pacing, these issues are overshadowed by the incredible action scenes and impressive performances by the cast. Overall, "Ip Man 3" is a highly entertaining martial arts film that delivers on all fronts. Donnie Yen's performance as Ip Man is outstanding, the fight scenes are thrilling, and the story keeps you engaged throughout. I highly recommend this film to anyone who loves martial arts cinema or action movies in general. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com [Yen's] performance is glorious, the actor embodying this martial arts legend with grace, dignity, passion and charisma to burn. Rated: 3/4 Aug 16, 2016 Full Review Maggie Lee Variety Less offensively nationalistic than the second installment but falling short of the glowing humanity, genial Cantonese humor and visual flair of the first, the pic is somewhat tarnished by its pedestrian plot and limp characterization. Jan 29, 2016 Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle Yen is appealing, the story moves right along, and the martial arts sequences are (to my untrained eye) impressive. In short, a good enough conclusion to the Ip Man saga. Rated: 3/4 Jan 28, 2016 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a handsome production and busy film with plenty of activity around a simple plot that stitches together familiar martial arts movie clichs. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse It is hard to say if “Ip Man 3” is better than the previous entries in the franchise. At the same time, though, it is highly entertaining, while Max Zhang is probably the best co-protagonist Donnie Yen had found so far Rated: 6.5 Jan 2, 2023 Full Review Allen Almachar The MacGuffin This is an uneven mess - neither the drama nor the action is good enough to warrant a viewing.
