Ashlee Simpson – Invisible Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Invisible Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Like a grain on the beach
Like a star in the sky
Far too many to count
With the naked eye
They won't see you
Go ahead, walk on by
You don't know I'm alive
Maybe one day you'll find
You should open your eyes (Your eyes)
You don't know me

[Chorus]
You're the one who looked right through me
Now you're saying that you knew me
When I was invisible
And you're the one who walked right through me
Now you're saying that you knew me
When I was invisible

[Verse 2]
Little things adding up
Try so hard not to rush
Giving in, letting go
Of the world we know
They won't see you
Force it down, lose the taste
They all think it's a waste
We don't need to believe
Every word they say now (They say)
They don’t know me
[Chorus]
You're the one who looked right through me
Now you're saying that you knew me
When I was invisible
And you're the one who walked right through me
Now you're saying that you knew me
When I was invisible

[Bridge]
It's so easy to be lost
But maybe you’re not lost at all
(Whoa, whoa)
Do you recognize me?
(Whoa, whoa)
Do you know who I am?
(Whoa, whoa)
Do you see me now?
(Whoa, whoa)
Do you see me now?

[Chorus]
You're the one who looked right through me
Now you're saying that you knew me
When I was invisible
And you’re the one who walked right through me
Now you’re saying that you knew me
When I was, whoa
Invisible (Whoa, whoa)
[Outro]
I'm invisible (Whoa, whoa)
I'm invisible (Whoa, whoa)

About

Genius Annotation

This is the first single Simpson released that she did not have a part in writing—it’s a cover of a song by an unsigned Ohio group called Jaded Era.

For Simpson, this song is about finding the strength to deal with the challenges in her life, including when she was caught lip-synching on Saturday Night Live and a disastrous performance at the Orange Bowl.

Says Simpson:

It’s basically about life, about finding the courage to get back up and keep fighting, which I think everybody deals with every day.

The music video is in black and white and shows Simpson boxing. Those scenes were shot in the same set as the highly acclaimed movie Million Dollar Baby, which is about a female boxer overcoming challenges to rise to the top of her profession. Simpson had to train for the boxing scenes.

The song was also included on the soundtrack to the musical comedy film, Bratz (2007).
