Sonny Boy Williamson II

About Sonny Boy Williamson II

Alex Miller (5 December 1912 – 24 May 1965) performed on-stage as Sonny Boy Williamson II as a blues singer and harmonica player. Born in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, he started playing professionally in saloons while still in his teens. Before he finished, he’d had his own radio program, toured Europe and been a hobo.

During the ‘30s, he played at the Grand Ole Opry and recorded with Elmore James on “Dust My Broom”. By time he died, he’d also recorded with Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, the Yardbirds, the Animals, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Robbie Robertson.
