Imelda Staunton reveals that plans are afoot for Downton Abbey 3, that might just be shooting before the end of the year.
It looks like the very posh curtains are falling on Downton Abbey, with the news that a third film is set to happen. A third and final film as it happens.
The new film will pick up after the events of 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era. That was the movie that explored the infancy of cinema against the backdrop of notable changes for the characters of the Very Posh House. There had been inevitable questions after the release of that as to whether a Downton Abbey 3 would happen, but now Imelda Staunton has let the cat out of the bag.
Chatting to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio Two, Staunton told Ball that “there will be a final film”. The question came into reports and rumour as to a further movie,...

“There will be the final film – there you go,” Imelda told BBC Radio 2′s Zoe Ball, via Deadline.
After Zoe joked that she hoped Imelda wouldn’t get in trouble for the reveal, the actress stated, “I don’t care.”
A recent report suggests that filming will begin this summer at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England, where the show has taken place all these years.
There’s also another report that claims Paul Giamatti will reprise his one episode role of Harold Levinson in the third movie.
None of these reports have been confirmed by Focus Features, who produces the films, at the time of this post.

The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.
Black Mirror’s strong showing is perhaps among the eyebrow-raisers after Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series received mixed reviews and has not exactly been generating awards buzz.
The Netflix drama, now in its sixth season, garnered seven nominations for Demon 79, five of which were in the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, including best drama writer for Brooker and Bisha K. Ali.
The episode, in which a demon instructs a mild-mannered sales assistant to go on a killing spree, is up for best limited drama, while star Anjana Vasan is a surprise runner in the leading actress race.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, particularly when it comes to Emmy voters. In recent years, the TV academy has given goodbye hugs to four Best Drama Series contenders for their final seasons: “Succession” (2023), “Game of Thrones” (2019), “Breaking Bad” (2014) and “The Sopranos” (2007). The only other dramas to land on this farewell list all hail from many decades ago: “Upstairs, Downstairs” (1977), “Elizabeth R” (1972), “The Bold Ones: The Senator” (1971) and “Playhouse 90” (1960). Will “The Crown” now become the ninth such program at the upcoming 2024 Emmys?
According to Gold Derby’s early Emmy odds, “The Crown” is way out front to win Best Drama Series for its sixth and final season. Rounding out the likely Top 8 nominees are “The Morning Show,” “The Gilded Age,” “Slow Horses,” “Loki,” “3 Body Problem,” “The Curse” and “Sugar.” Netflix notably split up the last episodes of “The Crown” into two parts — the first part streamed November 16 and dealt...

For the fourth consecutive year, we’ve got a firecracker of a Best Actress Oscar race. Lily Gladstone took home the Screen Actors Guild Award on Saturday for “Killers of the Flower Moon” over Emma Stone, who had been on a roll since the two won their respective Golden Globes, having pocketed the Critics Choice and BAFTA Awards for “Poor Things.” Now they each have an industry prize and Best Actress feels like a coin-flip. Gladstone has closed the gap on Stone in the Oscar odds since Saturday. Don’t be surprised if she overtakes the top spot soon. But when the SAG Awards and BAFTAs don’t align in Best Actress, which one has the edge at the Oscars?
Since BAFTA became an Oscar precursor 23 years ago, the Brits and the actors guilds have disagreed 13 times in the category prior to the Battle of the Stones. But not all splits are created equally.

“The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.

Once upon an awards season, Lily Gladstone looked to be the Oscar frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Then, she switched categories and was many experts’ tips to win Best Actress instead. Now, however, her status as Oscar favorite has dwindled — with an omission at the BAFTAs contributing to that.
Instead, Emma Stone looks like she might take home her second Best Actress Oscar for “Poor Things” after she won her first in 2017 for “La La Land.” Stone will surely cement that status with a predicted win at the BAFTAs, where she is nominated alongside Fantasia Barrino (“The Color Purple”), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”), Vivian Oparah (“Rye Lane”), and Margot Robbie (“Barbie”).
Stone is the overwhelming favorite to win this BAFTA award and she sits top of our BAFTA odds chart for this category with Hüller in second.

BAFTA threw up plenty of surprises and snobs in their nominations lineups this year with Best Actress one of the most intriguing and head-scratching categories of the year. “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone was snubbed while Annette Bening (“Nyad”) also didn’t make the cut. Both of those performers were nominated at the Oscars, however.

Great characters from literature often lose depth in movie adaptations due to condensed storylines, cinematic dialogue, and the transition to a visual medium. Unfaithful adaptations fail to capture what makes book characters memorable, prioritizing action over development and often making poor casting choices. Iconic traits may be exaggerated or misrepresented onscreen, straying too far from their original literary versions, even in the best book-to-movie adaptations.

Dominic West was stressed over Royals’ and others’ reactions to the final season of “The Crown.”
West portrayed Prince Charles during his marriage to late Princess Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki. The sixth and final season of the acclaimed Netflix series included Diana’s death and saw Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) scrambling to keep the monarchy relevant in the 21st century.
West explained during the BBC Radio 4 show “Today” (via Deadline) that he did have some “concern” over how the surviving Royal family would view the show, especially after “The Crown” cast had to defend the series against criticisms that certain portrayals were insensitive.
“I don’t want to make their lives any more difficult than they already are, so I suppose it does concern you. All reactions worry me,” West said. “I read all the reviews and spent two days in bed. So yes, I’m a sensitive soul,...

There are a host of big-name players in this year’s Best Live Action Short Film Oscar race with Wes Anderson‘s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” Pedro Almódovar‘s “Strange Way of Life,” and the John Travolta-produced “The Shepherd” all in the mix. But Tom Stuart‘s quirky British short “Good Boy” has a big name (and a big performance) of its own: Ben Whishaw.
The short follows Whishaw as a down-on-his-luck man who tries to turn his life around with the help of his anarchic mum (Marion Bailey) but figures from his past and a bygone tragedy threaten to consume and derail him. The short film blends multiple genres including comedy, drama, and tragedy and it is Whishaw’s powerhouse performance that is propelling this little indie film that could into a race full of the big boys.
Indeed, Whishaw’s performance is the film’s Mvp.

U.K. producers Evan Leighton-Davis and Ben Bond have launched a new financing fund, Heatseeker Media, a rolling finance facility to provide funding for independent film and TV producers.
Rare for these sorts of indie financing facilities, the London-based fund will provide development funding for producers, initially in the $100,000 to $1 million range for individual projects. Backing for the fund will come from a suite of private investors, mainly high-net-worth individuals, in the U.K., Europe and the U.S..
The first group of films to benefit from the fund include Romola Garai’s Monstrous Beauty, a period drama featuring The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey, which was a hot pre-sale title at the Cannes and AFM markets last year; the horror film The Severed Sun from director Dean Puckett starring Emma Appleton of The Witcher; and Ita Fitzgerald’s Irish drama West the Road featuring Imelda Staunton. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t go to the 2024 Golden Globes. But they were mentioned in host Jo Koy’s opening monologue. While the comedian has since been ridiculed for his jokes online, his playful shot at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was, per a PR expert, better than none.
What Jo Koy said about Harry and Meghan in his Golden Globes opening monologue
For those who didn’t see the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7, 2024, Koy began the ceremony with the traditional opening monologue. The 52-year-old took swipes at the evening’s nominees and attendees, ranging from Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, and Margot Robbie.
And, of course, there was something about Harry and Meghan. In his 10-minute opener, Koy, who told the audience he was a last-minute addition when his jokes were met with silence, transitioned from The Crown — the show received four nominations — to...

This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

Sarah Snook accepted the award for best performance by a female actor in a television drama series at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday night.
Snook received the award for her performance as Siobhan “Shiv” Roy in HBO’s Succession, which released its fourth and final season in 2023. It is her second Golden Globe for the role, following her win in 2022.
She opened her acceptance speech with a nod to co-star Kieran Culkin, who took home the award for best actor in a TV drama earlier in the evening.
“Kieran is usually better at these speeches,” she quipped. “You want to get up instead?”
Despite the joke, Snook continued with sincerity: “This show changed my life. Everybody in it is amazing. The cast, the crew were fantastic, this was a team effort. It was always a team and that was what made the show amazing to be a part of.”

Sarah Snook won at the Golden Globes for Female Actor in a Television Series — Drama for Succession.
The actress took the award for her role as Shiv Roy in the HBO drama that ended last year after four seasons. While taking the stage, Snook called out for her co-star Kieran Culkin, who had just won the male counterpart of her award.
“I was kind of hoping I didn’t have to get up,” Snook said as she took the stage. “Kieran is usually better at these speeches, right? Don’t you want to get up, instead?”

With the last season of HBO’s “Succession” landing nine nominations at the 81st annual Golden Globes, Sarah Snook took home her first as in the lead actress in a drama series category. While Snook has won the Globe for her role as Shiv in HBO’s “Succession” in the past, this is her first win in this category — she previously competed in the supporting actress category. She took home the trophy in 2021, the last time “Succession” was eligible. This time around, following her dominant and powerful role in the final episodes of the fan-favorite drama, she submitted in the lead category.
Earlier in the night, “Succession” stars Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen took home the awards for actor and supporting actor, and the series won best drama.

Heading into the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 7, “Succession” was the show to beat as it scored a record nine nominations — more than any other television show in history. Some of the other top nominees on the TV side were “The Bear” and “Only Murders in the Building” with five noms apiece, and “The Crown” with four bids. But which shows ended up being the big winners during the three-hour ceremony?
Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress was the first TV category handed out this year, and it went to Ali Wong (“Beef”), who is also predicted to prevail at next week’s Emmys. She beat out Riley Keough (“Daisy Jones & the Six”), Brie Larson (“Lessons in Chemistry”), Elizabeth Olson (“Love and Death”), Juno Temple (“Fargo”) and Rachel Weisz (“Dead Ringers”).

The fictional Roy family may not have been filled with winners, but “Succession” continues to produce awards season champions. Sarah Snook won the 2024 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series, making it the second consecutive victory for the Australian actor who played Shiv Roy. Snook also won in 2022, for the series’ third season, before going out on top for the final season in 2024.

Comedian Jo Koy kicked off Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony with a monologue that made fun of Ozempic use, railed about Oppenheimer‘s length and featured Meryl Streep performing the Wakanda salute.
Sound uneven? That’s how it came across to viewers watching the CBS/Paramount+ simulcast at home, and perhaps also in the room. “Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago,” Koy told the crowd when one joke didn’t get a huge laugh. “You want a perfect monologue? Shut up.”
