Illinois State University Reviews
Rating 3.68 out of 5 3,147 reviews
There were multiple cases of random people going into the dorms trying to break in and also multiple cases of SA on or near campus. There was also police chasing a man with a gun a few streets down from our dorm when a fire alarm went off so we did not feel safe during then. I also had quite a few dorm issues; water damage in room that never fully got fixed, neighbors being too loud w/out anything being done, etc. I would have liked for everything to get fixed in a timely manner or fully fixed in general, which was not the case. I did enjoy the different campus events held throughout the last two years, even if I wasn’t able to go to all of them. Most professors were nice and understanding if any issues arose, but some showed no empathy and didn’t even respond to emails or any communication methods. Although there are students of many different backgrounds, the majority is still very much white, and I would like to see more diversity within students as well as more cultural events too.
Illinois State University (ISU) provided me with an enriching academic journey marked by diverse experiences and opportunities for personal and professional growth. One of the aspects I appreciated most about my time at ISU was its vibrant and inclusive community. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I felt welcomed and embraced by both faculty and fellow students. The sense of belonging fostered an environment conducive to learning and collaboration, where ideas flowed freely and diverse perspectives were valued. The quality of education at ISU was exceptional. The faculty members were not only knowledgeable in their respective fields but also deeply invested in their students' success. Although the university boasts modern amenities and well-maintained buildings, there is always room for improvement in terms of accessibility, sustainability, and technological advancements.
I have completed my first semester at Illinois State University and I am very pleased with the experience. ISU provides both lecture based classrooms and interactive based classrooms due to the relatively smaller campus. I enjoyed the campus because it was a short walk to class or wherever I went, including uptown, where I felt safe at. I liked experiencing both where I had 25 classmates for one class and 500 classmates for another. For one of my classes, we would learn through a flipped classroom, which is where the student would have to watch the lecture videos for homework and during lecture, we would go over homework questions and group work. Now that I know what a flipped classroom is like, I would prefer having lectures in class with the professor rather than watching the lectures by ourselves. I found it harder to write down notes from a screen, rather than writing down what the professor is talking about due to having it harder to pay attention. Overall, I am loving ISU!
