Am besten sind die Bee Gees jedoch in ihrem Metier, den orchestral arrangierten Balladen "I Started a Joke" und "In the Summer of His Years", wo Robin seinen ganzen Schmelz einbringen kann, oder "When The Swallows Fly" und "Swan Song", wo Barry seinen Vibrato erklingen läßt.

Zurück in meine Jugend.

Wrapped in a snug fold-out digipak, this Rhino re-issue of Bee Gees Idea is a wonder to behold. Being the third album by the three brothers, Rhino has beautifully remastered the original into one CD that has all the original thirteen songs in Stereo and Mono. These are different sounding recordings and not simply Stereo condensed into Mono. Classics like, "I've Gotta Get A Message To You" and "I Started A Joke" is given new life.
Disc 2 contains fantastic Alternate Versions and previously unreleased material. It's interesting to compare "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Kitty Can", "Let There Be Love" or "Idea" to the original takes. Also include on album for the first time are singles, "Jumbo" and "The Singer Sang His Song". Other new delights are the rocking, "Bridges Crossing Rivers" and "Chocolate Symphony". "Completely Unoriginal" is `tongue in cheek', being one of the most original songs the Bee Gees have ever written. Also of note is the rare instrumental, "Gena's Theme" and two classic Coke commercials. With 39 songs and a running time of over 100 minutes, this is a long awaited release. Also includes a colorful booklet packed with trivia, history, album and single photos as well as comments from Barry and Robin Gibb.

Bought this as an LP when it first came out. Brings back many happy memories. I always preferred these songs to their 'disco' stuff.

Something New
Rezension aus Italien vom 22. Dezember 2015

3rd Outstanding Album in just 2 short years!
Rezension aus den Vereinigten Staaten vom 7. März 2011
These guys were truly on a creative role and this is one of my favorite albums of all time. It has everything you could want in an album including a tribute to Brian Epstein "In The Summer Of His Years". The man who found and managed the Beatles also was responsible for signing the Bee Gees along with his friend and employee, Robert Stigwood, who would become the Bee Gees manager and to them what Epstein was to the Beatles. It's amazing to think that Mr. Epstein was responsible for giving the world two of the most influential bands of all time, quite a legacy RIP.
Now, back to the review of this wonderful album: It's loaded with the usual great 3 part vocal harmonies we've had come to expect from the brothers and their writing really started to develop and go through a tremendous experimental phase at this time. I love the contrasting styles of writing and singing you get from Barry and Robin. The both were are outstanding writers and you see the stark contrast in such such songs as "I've Got To Get A Messasge To You" and "I Started A Joke".
They also wrote a song for pretty much every genre on this album which shows their versatility as both singers and songwriters. This album also has the distinction of yielding the only song not written by either of the brothers, the almost Country sounding "Such A Shame" by their guitarist, Vince Melouney. This is a complete album in every way and gave us a wonderful glimpse as the genre crossing potential of the brothers as writers, especially Barry who would go on to have a hit in every decade from the 60's on and write hits for artist in every major genre of music.
This is a Classic album in every way and is a must have for any serious Bee Gees fan. You will go on a musical journey that will leave you both amazed and satisfied. One of my personal favorite songs on the album, "Kilburn Towers" wasn't even released as a single yet is one of the most well crafted and perfomed songs I've ever heard.
