About — Ian Anthony Dale

Ian Anthony Dale

Actor, Director, Producer

Over the last decade or so, Ian Anthony Dale’s career has been moving at breakneck speed. After starring for three seasons as Lieutenant Jim Koto on TNT’s “Murder In The First” from creator Steven Bochco, Dale spent two years pulling double duty for CBS, starring as Adam Noshimuri – a reformed Yakuza and newly minted member of the 5-0 task force on the long running hit series "Hawaii Five-0," and as Secretary of Defense Harris Edwards – a conflicted company man desperately racing to save mankind in "Salvation." Dale now balances starring full-time and directing on “Hawaii Five-0” with his responsibilities as CEO of 20K – a development/production company in partnership with CBS Studio focused on developing content that is representationally and ideologically inclusive with a strong emphasis on Asian voices both in front of and behind the camera.

Dale is often recognized for his break out role in NBC’s acclaimed series “The Event” as double agent Simon Lee.  His additional television credits include a series regular role on “Surface,” and recurring roles on “Day Break,” “24,” and “Criminal Minds.” He has also appeared on “American Horror Story,” “The Mentalist,” and all three shows in the “CSI” franchise.  Feature film credits include “The Hangover,” “Tekken,” “The Bucket List,” and “Mr. 3000.”  More recently, Dale appeared in the Netflix original feature "XOXO," and in the Robin Swicord directed "Wakefield" opposite Bryan Cranston and Jennifer Garner.  Dale is also part of one of the most popular web series of all time “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” where he plays the iconic Scorpion.  A full list of Ian's credits can be found here.

The son of an Olympic hockey player, Dale once dreamed of a career in professional sports.  After a debilitating injury in high school threatened that dream, Dale refocused his energy from the baseball field to the stage. He graduated high school with best actor honors and continued to perfect his craft at the University of Wisconsin, where he earned his BA in film.  Upon graduation, Dale headed to Los Angeles where he worked for two years as a set builder, and soon after began pursuing acting roles.

When not acting, Dale remains focused on developing his second career producing and directing.

In his spare time, Dale can be found designing and building custom furniture.

He currently splits time between Hawaii and California with his wife and two children.
