I Spit on your grave movies ranked

Discussion

This is how I would rank the I spit on your grave movies:

I Spit on Your Grave Deja Vu - This movie is really stupid, Camille Keatons death so early on was shocking though.

I Spit on your grave(2010) - I like that it leads to 3, overall generic and from what I remember felt like a drama movie.

I spit on your grave(1978) - I like the movie title, I like the movie cover/poster that is supposedly Demi Moore, I like it as a franchise and essence, I like Camille Keaton but when you get down to the movie itself, it had atrocious acting and was artless, it really wasn't cinematic.

I spit on your grave 3 - It's like a fun spoof of the franchise, for some reason I like it. I think it has the best acting also.

I spit on your grave 2 - The best one along with 3 for sure, I think this one is the darkest and most well written one.

What is your ranking ?

what a weird movie to build a franchise around. one movie about a women being raped and getting revenge on her attackers might have something to say, but doesnt a whole franchise just turn rape into a spectacle?

Perfectly stated

Absolutely it does.

There's a bunch of vaguely-similar films from around the time, most of them forgotten now more-or-less.

Why it is that I Spit On Your Grave has had the longevity it has is a little beyond my comprehension - it's not the best of the genre, it's not the most shocking, etc.

The only thing I can think is the title and cover is eye catching and presents itself as a horror movie ?

could be yeah, it definitely was promoted more like a slasher than a thriller on the box art (at least, as i remember it from way back).

The first movie was a spectacle too. There are rape and revenge films that can be well done (Revenge (2017) and Last Night in Soho (2022)). But the first ISOYG felt exploitative and weird. When the rape scenes get too drawn out and it feels like you're supposed to be entertained by the craziness and pain of rape? The woman is erased as a person, and she just turns into a machine that gets raped then kills. I've noticed movies where a man's wife is raped and murdered and HE gets revenge are usually much better done. It's like she gets more humanity if she's a wife and it's from his perspective. It's treated as something horrible and justice is served, rather than being entertained by a graphic rape and ooh what's she gonna do next!

Yeah the first movie was the only one I’ll ever need to see. It just felt over the top and drawn out and like the repeated rapes were supposed to be entertaining/necessary to the plot. It turned me off watching any of the other ones.

The thing I find ironic about this franchise with it being a femenist franchise or whatever is that the girls in these movies have their breasts hanging out in the open in front of males and in front of a camera.

No woman in her right mind thinks it’s a “feminist franchise”. HTH

u/ThatTinyGameCubeDisc avatar

That’s because these movies are in no way feminist. Even the covers for half the movies try to be sexy, which is honestly just gross.

I like all the covers of these movies except mabey Deja Vu, I'll say it again, fiction doesn't need limits like that, it's just fiction.

I feel the exact same way. Makes my stomach turn

u/Sunset346 avatar

It's fiction, why would it make your stomach turn ? Many movies are about different types of violence, why does this fictional violence in particular make your stomach turn more ? I don't get it.

u/TheFreeBee avatar

Fair question. I was raped so it hits close to home more so than other kinds of violence.

It's fiction, yeah but it literally visually shows a woman getting violently gangraped. It's trash

u/ThatTinyGameCubeDisc avatar

What does it being a movie have to do with whether or not it can sicken people? Exploiting rape for entertainment is gross, fictional or not.

u/lemon31314 avatar

Why would you feel anything watching a movie? And if you feel nothing, why are you watching them?

u/Sunset346 avatar

I don't understand your questions

Being a franchise is what makes it interesting to me, these movies don't stand as well on their own.

Awful movie. Total torture porn.

u/Sunset346 avatar

It doesn't fit that subgenre

Is 1978 or Deja Vu your favorite ?

1978 best, sorry I should have specified. Deja Vu is absolute garbage
