Run like a Chocobo, stab like a Tonberry
I didn’t really like Yuffie initially and found her extremely annoying and self absorbed, but now that I’ve finished Rebirth, I’ve come to find her character really endearing. There were so many moments while navigating the open world when her random quips or singing just made me laugh out loud. She’s like that dumb goofy little sister you wish you had.
Chocobo choco choco chocobo! I’m on a chocobo! You’re on a chocobo!
"I am so, so bored. Bored right out of my brain. If I don't die first, betcha I'll go insane"
'Cause I've got nothing else to do
I'm stuck here wasting time
"But just wait, oh materia... I'll get back on the ro0o0o0oad, and make you mine"
I'll search high and low
Till I've gathered them all
I'll have orbs, piled up. About a billion feet tall.
Encore!
Genuinely if this could be on Spotify I would be so happy
I didn't have strong feelings about Yuffie one way or the other. But when shestood up for Barret in Corel ? That made me love her.
Yes!! And afterwards you can see how Barrett starts to treat her almost like a daughter
Totally this. I see Barret basically treating her as almost a practice run in patience and interaction for when Marlene becomes an uncontrollable teenager. When she runs off on the mountain path and Barret refuses to let her go alone, the only thing I could imagine was him thinking "is this what I'm going to have to deal with in a few years? Good god, Marlene, say it isn't so" haha
Also just did the childrens book quest and it just cemented Barrett.
Whos the better black father figure? Barrett or Piccolo?
I don't think Pickles can come close to Barret
To me, she’s been alone and lost Sonon in a pretty traumatic way so no doubt she’d been through a lot. Her coming into the group maybe made her more relaxed knowing there’s finally company she can trust so she releases herself to us which is quite cute. To the team she might be annoying but it was good to see her with people she can be herself with after what she’s been through
Her and Cait Sith are the highlights of this rewrite. They were both just vastly improved and, for me, are two of the most likeable characters in the cast.
Cait Sith isn’t necessarily a highlight for me just cause I like other characters way more but I actually like him now
cait during the date was peak videogame lmao
Her VA deserves a lot of credit for bringing her to life the way she did. One thing I can say about both remake and a rebirth is they did an excellent job with their choices in VA.
I can't recall a moment where it felt jarring to me personally.
I'm going to get shot for this but I only have two issues;
Nanakis voice change upon entering Cosmo canyon was jarring, personally preferred the deeper voice
Still trying to get used to Zack but it is growing on me
Other than that it was fantastic and everyone did extremely well
I also prefer his older voice but I understand the change as it's in line with FF7OG. My issue with his voice change isn't so much his voice but his personality change as well.
At the same time FF7 has big themes on identity and this is an example of him showing two parts of him self. All that is to say I got used to it but I do miss that gruff voice.
Well said my friend, it's definitely well told within the story and touches on the themes of identity.
I just felt his gruff voice gave him this almost... Professor figure of authority within the group, which isn't really covered by anyone else, perhaps Vincent will take that role moving forward.
Yeah I can totally see Vincent being a voice of wisdom due to his age and being a former Turk
Heard the materia song she sang in Gongaga. Favourite character ever since
Yuffie is amazing ! You know she is really well written character when even I found myself getting annoyed at her in like a little sister sort of way. Her moments with Barrett in Corel were really touching to me. I liked how she was upset at how people were treating him. Her GS date with cloud was so sweet in a sibling way. Not to mention her always bugging Tifa and cloud about each other (the cloning of several tifa’s in which cloud didn’t deny LOL). She’s a riot.
I was half-listening during that conversation in the buggy, and when she mentioned Tifa I literally did a double take haha. Was not expecting them to be so explicit
Same. I had to warm up to her. She is actually very introspective for how childish she comes across. She stood up for Barret, encouraged Aerith during temple, observed how phony the people at Cosmo Canyon could be, and voiced that Tifa needs to be more stern or "crack the whip" with Cloud.
I really hope they cut down on her materia lines in part 3, though.
For being a materia hunter that b**** never gets any materia.
I care more about her gameplay style than her personality. She is OP in battle if you know how to use her and she dominated alot of the brutal challenges.
I HATED her in the original, love her in these. Square did good with Yuffie.
yo real talk how could you hate her in the original, she had zero screentime, was optional, and said like 2 sentences total.
Annoying to recruit, and only scripted interaction after that is because she stole the materia
I didn't hate her, but imo that explains why one would
She stole my materia!
I straight up hated Yuffie in Remake's DLC. She was annoying and I hated that she's 16, dresses like she's 21, but acts like she's 12. Hell I didn't like her in Rebirth up until she joins your party and even then I was like "ugh ok, but you're staying in the back."
Oh how naïve I was back then. Now? I goddamn love Yuffie. She's so fucking funny. She's real. I love how she isn't afraid to joke around with Cloud, tease him a little bit, and he does so back. They develop a great relationship. Her and Barret? Also great. He starts off like me, annoyed with her but quickly learns to pretend take her shadow boxing. My favorite Yuffie quirk though is that when you're doing a side quest with her, she usually copies whatever motion the NPC is doing. I think it's cute.
Yuffie just brings a great, different energy to the group that Tifa and Aerith don't. Also it helps a lot that Yuffie is an awesome combat fighter. Probably my 2nd favorite after Cloud.
Man I loved her in the remake DLC just because of how fun she is to play. Her over the top, goofy mannerisms didn’t really bug me. But I think she’s the most fun character in either game to actually control in combat
Yeah. I was worried her being gold saucer date would be weird, but she’s a great little sis to cloud, talking to him about his weird love triangle with T and A.
If they fixed the frequency of her repeat phrase like that and her chocobo song, then she would be great, but i find myself rolling my eyes every time i use art of war.
I liked her for most of the game but I hated her in Cosmo Canyonwhen you meet the Gi . Every freaking sentence out of her mouth was about the black materia. Like I get it. You want materia. But can you please fucking shut up about it for once!
It’s central to her character. Not only did they mention Materia, they mentioned one supposedly capable of erasing souls from existence. That’s EXACTLY what she’s been looking for.
Barret is such a girl dad, to Marlene, Tifa in some ways, and he becomes one to Yuffie. it's wonderful to see.
Does anyone know what she says when you use art of war and supreme art of war? Something like “by the power of _____ and the fury of the surging seas”
With the power of his providence and the fury of his surging seas
I’m guessing by “He” she’s referring to Da Chao, those Buddha like statues in Wutai
I believe it's "by the power of His providence", capitalising His as it likely refers to Leviathan as Wutai's deity. Which makes the following line about the fury of the seas make more sense.
That makes sense. I thought it ended with “providence”, but I couldn’t quite hear what she said beforehand.
Yuffie's improvement as a character versus the original is incredible, same with Cait Stih. If anything I feel like she's slightly... too important now? Like there are a few times in the game where she seems to be the driving force where I'd really expect someone else.
The biggest example is meeting the Gi. Like, yeah OK I know they said the word "materia," but this really feels like it should be a Cloud/Red/Aerith section. And yet Yuffie seems to have a surprising amount to contribute.
So while overall I think they've done an amazing job with Yuffie in this game, I did find her a teensie bit thunder-stealy.
She really should sing the chocobo song more often. I heard it once and now it’s in my head forever.
I like that it's one of the songs that can play during chocobo racing.
YOU ON THE LAM BIG GUY
Lol she definitely got on my nerves, but more in the way my 15yo daughter does, so it was like I could relate to her instead of being pissed off at her
Yuffie's little songs reminds me of my Dad who, still to this day is making up new lyrics to old tunes. My brother and I have even picked up this habit. Every time Yuffie did that in game, it got a laugh out of me.
Best character in the game now.
I’m more amazed how they changed Cid from a chain-smoking wife-beater into Mr Optimism.
A change for the better. There’s no place for that kind of persona in modern media outside of them being a bad guy who gets what’s coming to them.
Rebirth changed my mind about Yuffie AND Cait Sith … its nuts!
My only problem with Yuffie is that she moves around like a sugar pixie in any cut scene she's in. It's very distracting.
Her and Barrett’s relationship is really great
Tonberry scares me more then any boss
