Travelers are drawn to the Huntley Santa Monica Beach for its prime location near the beach and shopping areas, along with its modern, chic atmosphere. The Penthouse restaurant and complimentary bikes are highlights, receiving high praise for their quality and service. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the value, citing steep prices and extra fees. Reviews also indicate that noise can be an issue, both within the hotel and from external sources. While the rooms are generally appreciated for their space and views, occasional disturbances and service inconsistencies have been noted. Cleanliness is a strong point, with the hotel maintaining high standards.

My wife and I visited Santa Monica recently as she just moved in with her boyfriend so we wanted to check out their apartment in Santa Monica. Our daughter said to check out The Huntley as she had recently eaten at their restaurant called The Penthouse, which has some of the most amazing views I have seen of the CA coast looking north to Malibu and south to Palos Verdes. We had a fantastic stay as the staff are very nice. Our room was on the 13th floor and had a great view of Palos Verdes. We were upgraded to a bigger room which was far more then I was expecting as it had a sauna tub and a very large bathroom. The bed was super comfy as well. We had breakfast at The Penthouse restaurant as well as some appys and adult beverages with our daughter and her boyfriend. The place was happening every time we visited due to a lot of locals eating and drinking there. That, is a good sign as it means the food and drinks are good. I would highlight suggest the Huntley if you are looking for a place to stay in Santa Monica! Oh...and it is only half a block to the beach.

We planned this weekend family staycation in Santa Monica and was really looking forward to our stay at The Huntley. We booked the Signature Suite and stayed at room 1013. When we checked in we were told it was an ocean view room so we were even more excited. The view was more like a partial ocean view as our room was facing a parking lot. Unfortunately the room itself was quite disappointing. First of all, the elevators had a sign regarding having to use your keycard to go up, but we were still able to go up without using our keycard so safety was questionable especially since we have small kids. The door to our room had paint already about to peel off so not a good sign. When we opened the door we were greeted with an outdated room with very sizeable dents and damage to the wall corners. The part where the carpet meets the marble or tile had the carpet practically peeling off. The window cushions had stains and in dire need of some reupholstering. You are able to open the windows all the way, and this was another safety concern if you have kids since they can just fall out. The pullout sofa bed was quite sad, with the mattress in a permanent U-shape condition. I felt pretty bad for my boys not being able to sleep flat during the two nights we stayed. Our bed was ok, pillows could have been nicer. The bathroom was also quite sad. One of the sink faucet handles came off, the toilet top cover was stained, and the shower was a bit small with the partial open glass allowing water to leak out whenever you take a shower. There is a vanity area in front of the bathtub, and right above it in the ceiling is what seems to be part of the AC. This would occasionally leak so our things on top of the vanity table got a little wet. The AC itself was also very loud every time it turned on, but the room was pretty good in keeping out outside noise. Overall, there is a great need for renovation, at least for this specific suite. We saw some of the other regular rooms in the daytime when housekeeping was cleaning, and they seemed a lot nicer and more modern, and actually cheaper per night. We should have just booked one of those rooms and paid less. It just seemed like we paid too much for our experience. The staff were fine, and valet was also good, but the room itself was sadly lacking.

Pros
Location
Views from The Penthouse restaurant & ambiance
Staff
Free bottled water
Enforced masks

Cons
Bathroom not clean
Overpriced
Poorly designed bathroom
A/C auto adjusts

We took a last minute trip to Santa Monica. When we arrived, we didn't have a hotel booked. We just knew we wanted a hotel with a soaking tub. Based on the reviews, we had our Uber driver take us to The Huntley. Upon arrival, we were quoted $1.5K more than what we ended up booking on a third party website. No big deal because that happens. We wanted a soaking tub in the room and was told to book the premier king ocean view room. We were assigned room 1509. The room had a bathtub, but it was by no means a soaking tub. We never used the tub because it wasn't clean and was shallow and narrow. We sprayed Lysol and used slippers to shower. Showering was a pain because of the glass door, you can barely reach the valve. You have to be very flexible and quick. Otherwise, you will get wet trying to beat the water coming from the shower once the valve is plugged.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are pretty standard with IKEA-like furniture for West Elm prices. The ocean view rooms are more so city view with an ocean peak, and that's only if you're standing in a certain place in the room. The A/C would adjust on its own. We set it 69 degrees and had the fan set to on. However, every night we would wake up drenched in sweat because the A/C would auto adjust and set itself. We voiced these concerns, but the only option was to downgrade because it was the last premiere room and none of the upgraded rooms were available. It wasn't a terrible experience, just an inconvenience. But, I wouldn't pay regular price for this hotel. I was expecting more for a 4-star hotel for the price and the rating.

We stayed at this hotel twice. It is a very nice hotel with excellent service. Our last stay my father who was visiting from Turkey forgot his insulin in his room. Steve Martin from Concierge went extra mile to help ship his medicine. He personally went to Fedex and used his own ice box to ship the insulin right away. I can not thank Steve enough for his help.

The hotel is decent. It looks like interior is newly renovated in an old building. The service leaves much to be desired.

The staff was attitude was mixed. The check-in reception was very friendly. The check-out reception was rude.

The restaurant has good views at the 17th floor but the food was expensive and 3 star at best.

The hotel has this fancy pressure sensitive minibar fridge. If you touch anything or put anything even small in the fridge the sensor will trigger and you are charged. Even if you don’t take anything and put things back nicely. They charge you a minimum of $25 if the pressure sensors are activated. This was not explained on checkin. And checkout person was extremely rude with a tone that was like shame on you. There is a small card hanging on a separate bottle in a different location with small print this will happen. Who would know that? At least put it on the handle on the fridge.

In addition, all the hotels of this caliber/price point refreshes 2 bottled water every time they clean the room. They don’t do it here at all so I have to constantly ask for it.

Overall feels like a mediocre hotel hardware with with poor service for its price.

We went over Labor Day wknd 2020 based on great (past) reviews and nice pics and descriptions online. Me, my husband, two kids ages 7 and 9.
I will end review w some positives but here were the negatives:
Covid pandemic ongoing so with that perspective, the shock was when we arrived was they only had one of two lobby elevators working and sign was up saying the other elevator closed for renovations. I had booked about two weeks prior and there was no email warning us.

You can barely stretch both arms in the one working elevator it’s a small square with quedtionable (if any) circulation :/

If I was not looking through Covid lense, I would just be annoyed about waiting on an elevator (we were on 14th floor). The reason for my review is to warn all that it was the scariest part of our trip and was a dishonest move by Hibtldy Hotel.

They had a line OUT THE DOOR crammed with people waiting to board elevator.

Sign said no more than 4 people in at a time amd masks must be worn. The stoned college kids who kept getting on were not wearing masks.

People were rightfully asking the front desk staff: why was there no email warning if this was not a malfunction but a planned renovation. Furthermore, you would think they would have a soothing measure such as (? passing out a cold water or drink or warm choc chip cookies 😆 while people stood for over 30 min trying to get to their room?!) Are you kidding me?

It felt like a dishonest trap: lure people on a busy long weekend, not bothering to warn them an elevator renov going on, jam pack the hotel to make their money before the next shut down.

Many other people were openly voicing their frustration while in line for elevator.

We voiced this as well. They comp’d valet and food. It won’t chsnge life and limb risk to me amd loced ones if we end up sick from that elevator.

Other negatives:
1. carpeted rooms kinda gross for beach town could feel sand bumps under carpet

2. older property in general

3. no pool

4. no pancakes (my kids :))

5. they give towels for beach

6. trek to beach be ready to walk

Positives:

1. Pretty interior lobby

2. clean bathroom

3. nice staff

4. good room service

5. fyi penthouse restaurant is now on 2nd floor to allow for open air dining and menu and drinks decent

This was a great hotel. Ideal location - on a quiet street but easy walk to the beach, main downtown and tourist drag. Overall hotel impression is that everything is very bright - rooms and top floor bar/restaurant alike, but this is definitely a positive and marks it apart from the predominantly dark wood furnishings which are much more common in hotels, and gives a feeling of space. High quality furnishings (and despite the colouring no signs of wear or scuffing) and decor - loved the touch control light switches: small touch but added to the premium feel. Rooms and bathrooms spacious (fine for a family of four): higher floor with ocean view was worth the supplement. It’s not cheap but worth it in our view. Didn’t eat in the restaurant but went there for drinks a couple of times and the 360 degree views are spectacular. Would definitely recommend and would return, both to the Huntley and Santa Monica.

This hotel was exquisite! Very modern, upscale and CLEAN! Great partial ocean view, all staff exhibited highly professional services. Beds were really comfortable with high end linens. Bathrooms were clean, floors were clean, all around this was a above expectation experience and we have pretty high expectations! Quick walk to the beach, valet parking, you really couldn’t ask for more. Just beware ahead of time.... so your kids don’t walk in before you and crack open a $5 can of soda, the in room mini bar is not complimentary! :)
Definitely would stay there again.

The Huntley is nice hotel with a nice staff. We were there over a weekend which may be an unfortunate time to visit. Apparently you can not drink the water in Santa Monica but the house keeping really didn’t leave water bottles. We did call for extra bottles but no one showed up. I would think at every opportunity water bottles would be available which they were not. The elevator situation is bad. There are only two elevators in the hotel. The rooftop bar/restaurant is very popular so you need to give yourself at least 5-10 minutes extra to get & from your room because of the wait for the elevator & the lines in the lobby to get on the elevator. Unfortunately, we will not be staying there again.

Firstly I love this hotel but this trip wasn't without its issues, particularly on check-in.

We arrived late afternoon after travelling from the UK and the first room we were given was not nearly as nice as our last visit and overlooked the car park. It was more shabby than chic. We asked at the front desk if there were alternatives and the room we were then sent to (on a higher floor) was still being cleaned, even at 6pm. It was gone 2am for us on UK time and we asked the unhelpful guy on the front desk if he could store our bags while we went out to eat. He was not apologetic about the hassle at all. When we returned later, the keys we'd been given didn't work so it took another trip to the lobby to get into a room. No apologies were given at that point either.

The room we finally had was nicer, on a corner but this experience did put me off a bit. They do seem to give more attention to the people visiting the restaurant than those paying more to stay at the hotel - the balance doesn't seem right to me. And the lifts are always busy for that reason.

The hotel is in a great location and the view we finally had was very nice. I have to say we'll think again before booking next time as it wasn't the start we wanted to a holiday we worked very hard to achieve (and with all the covid testing and forms, etc it was stressful enough even getting there...).
