The experience at my high school was very fulfilling. The school was a great environment that cultivated learning and the arts but fell short in terms of diversity. Though the student body was diverse, the learning curriculum lacked diversity. There were various times when teachers left, and the school had to compensate with incompetent substitutes who did not know what they were teaching. On top of that, the substitutes often got replaced with more substitutes of their own. However, that does not mean all the teachers were bad; some were fantastic and did everything they could to care for and ensure their students succeeded in school and beyond.
Despite Huntington Beach High School being the only high school I have attended, I am aware of its issues compared to other schools around the state. While the school is very welcoming, having a great education and teacher system, it's food quality is questionable at best. I acknowledge the fact that free lunch meals does mean a decrease in food quality as the school is required to feed all the students, but the current food quality should be higher due to the fact that I have gotten sick numerous times because of the food. There is vaping around the campus, but the faculty is quick to catch the trouble makers so it's not as much of a problem as it once was. In conclusion, I would recommend this school for any upcoming student wanting to have a good education and preparation for college, I would just advise the upcoming student to pack their own lunch.
I really enjoyed my time at HBHS. I was involved in sports and was a club treasure. The sports programs are fair and are competitive and very enjoyable. Academically speaking, I truly believe that teachers there are willing to help and support their students. I find that they do a great job preparing their students for the next step of their education weather it is another grade level, college, or the work force. I truly believe that they have equipped me with skills that I have taken into college. I was involved in their AVID program where I truly attained all of these skills. The HBHS AVID program was the best thing that ever happened to me. I could not have been as successful of a high school student without them. It brought motivation and understanding to what and who I wanted to become.
