I liked the school over all I got to meet alot of cool peope and some cool professors. I enjoyed that there was a target near by so I could go shopping on my free time. The peope are really cool and nice.
It was ok it felt more so like a degree factory where everyone was just focused on finishing and no one looked to make any connections with one another. The Professors were absolutely terrible often did not care about grading until the last second.
If you involve yourself in student clubs and meet people, your experience will probably be okay. There are a lot of students because it is a CUNY so it is not so personable unless you take part in student activities. Academics, however, are one of the top. You will find a few bad professors here and there but that is usual for any university. If you are seeking to do pre-med buckle up.
As a student coming from a small high school, I found Hunter's large student body and big science classes to be very liberating. I did not have to worry about cliques or what others were thinking of me. All I could do was focus on my self and my growth. And since it is a school with many students, if you do not reach out or try to get opportunities you will miss them, so I also learned to be more proactive.
Hunter is a very good school that I am very excited to be part of this upcoming semester. I have visited it and can also assert that it has a beautiful campus.
As a Hunter College alumni, I can confirm the school has a strong faculty, most professors were graduates of elite institutions, and therefore the quality of education is unmatched, at an extremely affordable price tag. Administration can ba a hassle to deal with, after all it's a public institution.
Don't expect to graduate on time, especially if you major in pre health. Classes fill up quickly and you can't even make class on time. Most of the teachers I've had are really good, but the Stem teachers are really bad. And theres no soical life. If you have the option just go somewhere else
I enjoyed hunter college. I liked the diversity and all of the student activities. One thing I would like to see change is for them to add a bachelors/masters pathway for English Education students. I know there some programs where you can earn your bachelors and masters for only an additional year (5 years in total ) for some of the math majors. But for the English students there is not that option.
The professors here are very helpful. when it comes to needing help with my assignments they are easily there to help.
So far, my experience has been up to my expectations of being fair and enjoyable. Nothing about Hunter College has come off as something negative besides a few minor exceptions. Besides that, everything is good.
My overall experience at Hunter was amazing. I have met many amazing professors who made the classes I took interesting and engaging. I also met a lot of people and built many great friendships through a club at school called Vietnamese Student Association. We hosted a lot of events for people to interact and build their connections, and I met a lot of people though this. Overall, I am grateful that I did my undergrad at Hunter. I grew a lot as a person.
I loved the student groups I was able to be involved in. Professors could be hot or miss so look at ratings online before taking a class. I would like to see the math system change, but this is a CUNY problem and not Hunter specific. The way it's done is that if you fail the final, you fail the class even though you may have done well on the other tests. The issue is that the final is created by the department and includes material not taught by the professor. This is wrong and I hope someone advocates to get this changed.
I'm currently a freshman in CUNY hunter college where I hope to get my BA in English with a concentration in the education field, I love the atmosphere around the campus especially central park. I think Hunter college is a great option for students who want to get out of their comfort zone and explore themselves. With that being said, you have to make sure you are always on top of your game and keeping up with the work because no matter how understanding the professors can be, they can fail you too if they see you not trying hard enough.
Great professors, the school generally cares abt the students- only problem is serious lack of funding for facilities, and some higher-ups have misconstrued the war in Gaza and sent out zionist messages, horrific esp. considering the substantial Muslim population. Professors are hit or miss but the good ones are REALLY good, do research on them beforehand and enroll for more classes you want to take not being completely tied to any of them, then based on your experience with the first class or two drop what you don't want. Don't just go off of RMP. Workload is manageable, they take into account that students often have to work and commute. Generally I would describe the student body as extremely driven and hardworking. That doesn't mean everyone will be enthusiastic about every class- a lot of classes which would be good end up bad if the students are all taking it as a requirement- I've noticed it happens w linguistics a lot. Also, explore the campus to find free books and study spots
The professors here made classes easy to learn and follow along with. My only problem is that when I first transferred to this school, I had to take classes over again that I already completed at my previous institution because I had to follow degree works. After all, speaking to an advisor was impossible so I had no choice but to trust that degree works was accurate, which it wasn't and I wasted my money paying for those classes. I didn't get to speak to an actual advisor whether by phone or in person until 2023. I started at Hunter in 2021. After speaking to an advisor, I was given a course layout of all the classes I should start to focus on to complete my degree and that was the most helpful tool I was given to make sure I was on the right track. Besides that, being that the subway is right in the school it was easier for me to commute to and from school without too much hassle.
I have received the most rigid, captivating, amazing, and extraordinary education at Hunter College. There is no place like it. Hunter College has a plethora of innovative classes to choose from in every academic department. In its biology courses, they have a class on HIV, cancer progression, and tons of classes on the human brain. The English department has classes dedicated to the most respected and brilliant writers of America, like Tony Morrison, James Baldwin, Emily Dickinson, and Ernest Hemingway. I personally took one of the most amazing classes at Hunter, I loved my Clinical Psychology course. There is no doubt that a student will receive the best education at Hunter College. The most important entertainers and government leaders have come to Hunter College, like Hillary Clinton who came at a few commencement ceremonies. Bill de Blasio has visited a few times as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda. Dr. Martin Luther King, sadly, delivered his last speech at Hunter College.
Being a hunter college undergraduate has been one of the greatest experiences. I really enjoy the amount of help from hunter staff and professors. I plan on applying to hunter for a graduate program.
