Hugo: ‘For myself and Pierre, the target is to go through’

Hugo Lloris accepts that he and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg both want the same thing – and will do anything to get it – when France and Denmark meet at the World Cup today (Saturday 26 November, 4pm UK).

With the reigning champions looking to build on their excellent 4-1 win over Australia and Denmark eyeing a first victory of the tournament after a goalless draw with Tunisia last time out, it’s set to be a potentially decisive day for both of our players in Group D.

While he knows what Pierre’s sentiments will be, does Hugo expect to catch up with his club comrade before the game in Doha?

“I will probably speak with Pierre, obviously because we are together every day – it’s a game that we’re looking forward to playing, but for Pierre and for myself, the main target is obviously to go through this group stage,” said the goalkeeper, who is two caps away from Lilian Thuram’s record of most appearances ever for France.

“As players, we all want to perform at our best and to enjoy this moment. This competition has to be positive, you have to feel the energy, you have to feel that it’s something unique and you want to enjoy it.

“You want to stay in the competition as long as you can as well, and you want to face the best teams and best players in the world.”
