      Jim S What a great movie. The bad reviews are the audience's fault. This is not a middle-of-the-roader film. It's bonkers. The world could use more punk rock right now. The film is part comedy, part sci-fi, part 70s punk fanzine, part comic book, part wacky high school play, part serious drama. It's the kind of film that should be a cult classic. I think our current moment is just devoid of creativity and, well, punk rock. It should gain a following. It feels like a piece of inauthentic YA fiction that's madly in love with itself and doesn't realize that it's just a tired old retelling of the classic MPDG love story (how cute, she calls it "the punk" instead of just "punk" because she's an alien, hilarious). The emotional climaxes fall flat because they're not earned, and the characters just fumble about on their clear-cut track. Maybe you'll enjoy the cheap, choppy slo-mo transition scenes (a trick to hide that they couldn't afford to match the shooting locations to the period in which the story takes place? ), but I honestly can't recommend a single thing about this unfortunate twee-fest of a film. I couldn't quite follow what was supposed to be going on but then I'm not sure if there was a whole lot of sense written in to it anyway, frankly. Alien beings from outer space in weird semi kinky costumes interacting with bored teens from Croydon in the 70s, who want to teach them about punk music. Yeah I did say it was bizarre. It has the feel of a cult classic in the making but I just couldn't get my ahead around it enough to say I found it especially funny or particularly enjoyable. It was just...bizarre. However, I would like to point out that perhaps most randomly of all, for such a seemingly b-movie type plot and so on, Nicole Kidman is actually present, apparently/seemingly as the head of a group of the alien...beings?. Yeah, its weird and not especially recommendable. Also, I wouldn't say it gave a great deal of obvious, useful advice in terms of how to actually, you know, talk to girls at parties(!).
