Karlsruhe University of Education

Welcome to Karlsruhe University of Education. With a long tradition as a higher education institution for teacher education, we engage in research and teaching on educational processes at school and outside the classroom. We are fully authorised to confer doctoral and post-doctoral degrees.

Our university forms an integral part of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion where numerous universities and research institutions as well as businesses and public authorities closely work together to strengthen and promote the region as a hub for business, science and innovation. We also collaborate with partners from the fields of society, culture, education and politics.

Our English-language website has been designed especially for our international guests, researchers and prospective students. It provides you with an overview of our university and shows you just a small selection of our multifaceted activities in teaching, research, continuing education, and transfer. The complete website of our university containing all information from the various subject areas is currently only available in German at ph-karlsruhe.de.

Teach.

More than 3,700 students are supervised by around 220 academic staff members.

Our range of degree programmes includes programmes in Teacher Education for the primary level and the secondary level I of the German school system, as well as bachelor's and master's programmes for other fields of education.

Our part-time continuing education programmes are developed on the basis of the competencies of our university and with a particular closeness to research. Our certificates of advanced studies (CAS) and master's programmes open up a variety of perspectives for broadening and deepening one's own professional skills and competencies. Our goal is to enable lifelong learning and to open up new fields of occupation and activity.

Live.

At our university, people from different cultural and religious backgrounds study and work together. Together, we contribute to the university's cosmopolitan atmosphere on campus. International collaboration partners and visiting students promote diversity and encourage intercultural exchange. Friendships are made across borders.

From our green campus featuring a Mensa, sports hall, and our university library, it is just a short walk to the city centre or Karlsruhe Palace with its spacious parks and gardens.

Home to a total of 43,000 students, the fan-shaped city of Karlsruhe boasts plenty of entertainment options, pubs, and clubs. The city offers a wide range of cultural and sporting activities, and shopping enthusiasts also get their money's worth.

The city's location on the Rhine River, on the edge of the Black Forest, and in the immediate vicinity of the French Alsace region gives you plenty of variety and offers practically unlimited opportunities for leisure time activities.

Research.

Our research activities combine educational science, teaching methodology, and subject-specific research.

We explore the foundations of education from early childhood education to school and adult education to geragogics. We are continuously expanding our research activities while at the same time strengthening research in teaching methodology and empirical school and classroom research, in particular.
