Very nice people, and the place is beautiful. We have had great fishing to, l would rather spend my money their than buy a license and not have any luck.

The net say you are open for today, and we travelled out from Scotsdale, to find out you are closed. Civit gets the blame for everything, if you want people to visit keep things up to date. No happy.

Organised the family and the father-in-law and headed out. Heard the ad on radio on the way there. The ad was saying how they are open everyday in jan/feb. Got out there and they were closed. Never going back.

A great cheap day out. The museum was well presented and had displays from the prehistoric eras to man landing on the moon. Has an interactive area for kids and adults to play.

Good place to visit. It is free. Amazing display of animals and dinosaurs. Lots of information to be had. Upstairs has an amazing array of photos from around Tasmania and under Tasmanian waters. The science part for kids is a massive let down. I would have honestly thought that during its time closed for covid they would have upgraded or fixed the activities. Instead there is still plenty out of order. The tram cafe was closed on both occasions we went. Art display across from that had broken art work etc. Outside has standard science stuff but once again some were out of order or lacked the equipment needed to do them. It's free so please donate.

I had a few hours to kill and decided to take a look at the museum, it was a great decision! Helpful members of staff directed me to the planetarium which whilst small was full of info and history of Tasmanian research. The main display shows a sad history of the Tasmania Tiger, a good dinosaur display, an old bike display, an old Alfa Romeo and a photographic display upstairs. I loved the old train display and especially the railway workshops This was a great use of my few hours. I really enjoyed it!

Amazing museum with free entry. Lots of exhibits ranging from dinosaurs, astronomy and my favourite - the old school photography exhibit! Easy to spend an hour or two browsing around here. Car parking was paid and my ticket got stuck deep in the machine - with difficulty I was able to remove it. I also saw a few others having difficulty as well.

Such a nice museum! Loved the description and commentary. It's a very well maintained museum with very friendly staff members, some dinosaurs to look at, art, some space exhibitions at the moment. Will definitely come by again!

Great Museam. Chock full of things to do. Planetarium was unfortunately closed the day I went but that's no biggie, had a ton of other things for the kiddies (big and small) to do. Definately check out the Dino exhibition. Well layed out and maintained.

A very good museum worth spending a couple of hours exploring and reading about Tasmania's rich history. It's a museum close to the CBD, reachable with the free Tiger bus and offering a diverse collection of Australian animals, old transport systems, dinosaurs and other interesting display. There's plenty of parking and still walkable from the city.

It's a lovely museum have lots of things to see! We love the part they display all the local animals, insects and birds. It is worth to spend few hours there and walk out with more knowledge and idea about Launceston and Tasmania history!

Highly recommended for children learning it has about space , old train , tasmanian aborigine life, weapons, ship wreaked, staffed animal, Furthur more It has auditorium for wild life such as bees, egauna ,etc. The second floor is about HJ King photographer, who has a passion about natural of Tasmania. Free museum, no need to pay. Not crowded.I love this museum so much.

This was a very informative and interesting tour. Only a small group, but guided through with detail and fun facts by Mac. Who had plenty of time for questions and answers along the way. Starting in the Tasman Hotel/bar in Williams St, crossing over to the Brewery site and taking us through to packaging! Finishing back at the Bar with some sample tastes was very good indeed, no photos were allowed inside the Brewery but got a couple at museum site instead. The Pizza special at the bar was perfect (and tasty) for the two of us to share.

Locally made beer always goes down well. Cool little bar, with multiple rooms to sit, drink & eat. Outdoor area in good weather too. If i wasn't tied down for work commitments i would 100% book myself in for a brewery tour🍻

The brewery tour experience is well worth it. Gives you a great insight into the operations of a large scale brewery. Mac our tour guide was very knowledgeable and you could see her passion for beer come through. My partner isn't a fan of beer and loved the tour as well. The bar staff are super friendly and made it quite an enjoyable afternoon.

Landed in Launceston on the weekend, immediately felt like having a refreshing beer. Boag delivered the fresh goods with the tasting paddle. The southern California citrus lager was lemon twist, easy going quenching the thirst at first gulp. Ending with the traditional English pale ale best drank towards the end in slightly warmer temperature. Complimented with the bbq chicken pizza, crispy and generous chicken toppings. They have the tour, which I haven't gone with, but from the reviews, it seems to be a must go.

Really enjoyed the JB Brewery Tour today,, this is a must see whilst you’re in Launceston. Our Tour guide Cory was brilliant and very knowledgeable of the history of this historic brewery. He also kept us entertained with a few light hearted jokes that added to the fun of the tour. The beer tastings after the tour was a great way to finish the 90min session. Well worth it! A must to do whilst in Launceston. Charlie gave us a very informative and entertaining tour, briefing us on the history of the company as well as the current operation of the company which is on a very large scale, unfortunately no cameras allowed. Had some nice beer tasting afterwards and i also stayed back for lunch. And the free museum inside is worth a look as well.

My partner and I had such an amazing time at this brewery/tour. (I forget our guides name, sorry!!) but she was amazing and so incredibly lovely. At the end, we were able to taste test the beers in a full glass and had a funny/great conversation with our guide. It felt so welcoming and just overall friendly. I highly recommend. The tour itself was pretty interesting!

Went for the brewery tour and really enjoyed it. Had a very fun tour guide that was very knowledgeable about beer and the history of it in Tassy. They do a little tasting at the end.

Enjoyed the tour, we got to try three beers at the end 😄 we did not get to see the beer production as it was not on the day we did the tour but we got to watch a video of it which was good. Alyssa was a very passionate, enthusiastic and fun tour guide she made it very enjoyable.

The Launceston Park is nicely located in the heart of the business district of town. It's not massive but it can be considered as a people's park because it has the basic amenities of a public park. People can see animals, appreciate nature, mesmerize by the old architectures in the area or just breath the freshest air the world has to offer. The well manicured lawns is welcoming for first time visitors and by just walking in the park, you can have a glimpse of some bits and pieces of history of the place during the early days of the settlers. The Park have few entrances and exits from multiple streets and you can see walkers, joggers, cyclist, picnic goers, event phot shoots, and photographers, etc around the park. This park is also a good place to celebrate life moments like birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. . One thing to note, is that dogs are not allowed inside the park and if you bring your car, off street parking is available around the area and during Saturdays, Harvest Market is just around the corner. The park is not that well maintained though, smelly water from the pond, the fountain and its water is visibly not been taken cared very well. I think the council/ park administration needs to do more than what they are doing now. Maybe more staff or hours needs to be allocated in maintaining the park, or they can distribute forms or ask online and ask some suggestion from the general public about the best way to improve the park for the future generations to enjoy.

Stunning park in the city area, offering plenty of space with lots of shaded areas to have a picnic play with your children or just wander. The park also has a viewpoint to admire the Japanese Monkeys that live and bread in their own habitat. Worth the visit

This is an amazing park. Beautiful green grass and plenty of space to enjoy it. The duck pond is muddy water but the ducks love it. The main feature of the park is the monkey enclosure. They have been in the park for years and the community includes young.

Lovely walk around the park. Many sites to see and read about. Japanese Macac enclosure worth a stop.

Lovely park across the road from our accommodation. Beautiful gardens lush green lawns, stunning display of orchids in the conservatory. I just was amazed by the Macaque display so cute and entertaining such a fantastic idea and free to view them. Such a rare find.

A nice park with a conservatory area. Not a lot to see. The monkeys make it a must see. Note the craftsmanship in the Queen's Jubilee commemorative arch which also has a drinking fountain.

The appropriately named "City Park" is a beautiful park in the centre of Launceston. The grounds were spotless and extremly well maintained. Great place for a walk or a picnic with liots of open areas. There was also a Japanese Macaque exhibit which was free and very much unexpected.

Launceston City Park is a heritage park that was established in the 1820s by the Launceston Horticultural Society. In 1863 it was passed to the Launceston City Council. It is a beautiful park near the centre of town with a display of Snow Monkeys, a conservatory, a band stand, a fountain paying tribute to Queen Victoria, a duck pond, Albert Hall, Design Tasmania, City Park Radio and Museum and various other sculptures and tributes. It was well worth the stroll through. The Radio museum is entry by gold coin donation but the rest is free to wander through, including the monkeys. Although the entertaining monkeys area worth a visit, it's the beautiful gardens and gorgeous established trees that make this park a lovely place to hold a picnic date or have a quiet recharging walk. Plentiful grassy areas, benches to sit and a kids playground with a cute little mushroom toilet room. Well groomed gardens with path access to get fully around making a great place for a walk. The hot house has a wonderful arrangement of flowers, orchids ferns and indoor plants. There are also toilet facilities available. Near Tamar st entrance there is this vintage radio museum. Very eclectic and interesting place to enjoy.

I passed the park to go to the resto for dinner, the park becomes someone’s residence so NOT recommend you to pass after sunset. Whilst in the morning, its beautiful and its fine as some people jog around here.

A really serene, beautifully kept garden space. I loved the huge trees and the general way its set out. It's a lovely walk and very tranquil as a community space.

This park was very beautiful. The flowers surrounding the benches were just inviting you to sit and enjoy this green space. The conservatory was just bursting with or hids and othe fabulous flowers. The monkeys were very entertaining, and I had a good chuckle at their antics.

What a beautiful place to read a book , have some lunch, or just sit back and relax gazing at the parks beauty. Have a wander through the conservatorium filled with beautiful plants and water fountain. Don't forget to visit the monkey enclosure as well, the enclosure opens at 8am with keepers putting out lots of fruit , watch the monkeys have breakfast and play

Beautiful place to walk, hike, swim, feed the birds or just stand and stare at the Great Outdoor. Admire the natural beauty, breathe the fresh air and enjoy the quiet. A must visit if you are in Launceston. Entrance is free but a fee is charged for the chairlift ride. 2 hours of my time well spent checking out the many trails and lookout points. Not as spectacular as Cradle Mountain but Cataract Gorge is more accessible from Launceston.

Beautiful historic well maintained area. The chair lift was an experience and quite cost-effective. There is an abundance of wildlife wondering about which is beautiful. It's such a calm, peaceful place. Excellent for a quiet stroll and a place to picnic with friends.

Stunning space! Plenty to see and do. Is a fair bit of walking involved (we did near 16000 steps climbing to the Eagle Nest lookout and around the gorge, but it is worth it!). Lovely little cafe and restaurant inside and the chair lift is a must do! Lots of wildlife to look at and enjoy also. And randomly, there is a pool, so bring your bathers if you're keen (still a bit cold!).

Big and beautiful park and very pleasing to the eyes. Very tranquil place. We took the chairlift to and fro for $20 per adult. Met with many wildlife, peacocks, peahens, wallabies, different species of birds. A lot of walking and you can get good exercise. We can just follow the trail to Alexandra suspension bridge where you can watch the constant rapids hitting the stones and rocks below. Soothing to the ear. There's a swimming pool before the banks. Cool place and we love it here.

This is a beautiful place in Launceston in Tasmania. Worth going to this place if you are visiting Launceston. There are plenty of parking, but you need to pay for parking, which is nominal fee. This is scenic place. They is an old hanging bridge, long rope way etc. You need to pay for using the rope way. There are places for tail walk. There is an open swimming pool as well, but wasn't open. You can walk through the area and take beautiful photos. There is a coffee shop in the precinct and you can dine in. Main attraction is scenery, trail walking, hanging bridge, rope way etc. This is well maintained is a tourist attraction in Tasmania.

Very picturesque with great walks. What a great place to spend an hour or a day. We were there for a few hours and did a couple of the walks which are not too challenging. I can imagine this would be a great place in the summer and the pool would be a welcoming sight after other activities. The lady at the entrance booth was a friendly font of knowledge, so make sure you take her tips and advice.

Cataract Gorge Reserve is a breathtaking destination. The suspension bridge adds a thrilling element to the experience, providing stunning views of the gorge. The walking trails and natural beauty make it a must-visit spot for getting back to nature.

An amazing picturesque destination that's surrounded by tranquil nature that only a God could create. Beautiful all round, perfect for tourists and families. There's a Cafe, a chairlift over the gorge and a few descent walking tracks.

One of the best places in Tasmania to visit. The chairlift is amazing and safe for adults. For newborn and kids will have safety strap to put on and team will help you out with that. One way is $15 per person and worth the walk for sure. Trust me you will like it. There’s a cafe and resting area too.

A lovely Launceston Tamar River surprise. Our party really enjoyed this because the walk from Kings Bridge gave nice views and we then went over on the Gorge on chairlift and back via the Suspension Bridge. We were we were all quite surprised at just how attractive this area was and the walk back along the river gorge was quite beautiful. Leave plenty of time as this actually took most of the morning. And the videos are for our grandchildren.

This morning, my parents and I visited the Cataract Gorge Reserve in West Launceston, Tasmania. It's hard to begin how to describe this place. Massive, breathtaking, scenic, incredible, magnificent. It reminds me of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado or Yellowstone National Park. We started on the First Basin Walk, a short easy walk around the large water basin and over the Alexander Suspension Bridge. From here, it splits off into several walks and hiking trails as well as the continuation of the First Basin Walk with a lovely crossing over the water. I decided to tackle the Trevelyan Walk by myself. It's a steep, rocky trail with lots of trees and overgrown vegetation. I spotted a wallaby and baby joey as well as several fellow hikers and runners which put my mind at ease. Plenty of scenic views along here of the reserve. I walked back along the Daffodil Walk which is a beautiful short rainforest track and connects back to the First Basin Walk. As well as the walking tracks, there's also a chairlift, outdoor swimming pool, cafe, restaurant, BBQ picnic area, lots of blue peacocks and more. It was certainly worth visiting on our Tasmania trip.

A great family friendly place close to the heart of Launceston. It has a free swimming pool (not always manned by lifeguards) as well as some great walks. The chair lift is pretty decent, and would recommend purchasing a one way ticket as the walk back across the suspension bridge is worth it. We had an infant with us, so anything with lots of stairs was a problem, otherwise well worth visiting. Parking is paid but quite cheap at $1/h although the meter wasn't working when we visited.

I visited the reserve whilst it was raining, although the reserve was flooded it did not detract from the view or experience. If you are able, I would recommend a one way ticket for the cable chair (provides a leisurely ride up cataract George, you're able to see a lovely overhead view of the reserve). Once you have reached the top, it is a lovely ~15min stroll down through Alexandria bridge to return back to the start. If you have more time set aside for the day, I highly recommend you check out the hikes available at the reserve, there are different intensities available.

A beautiful reserve with a Cafe, bathroom, chair lifts, paid parking and space for the family. Very relaxing, well maintained and not too far from the city centre. There are a combination of short and long treks, so I decided to come the morning before my flight. I highly recommend anyone who comes to Launceston to visit the Cataract Gorge Reserve. 👍👍

A good experience during the winter. If you like to walk, you should do it! But for those who are not afraid of heights / enjoys a bird view kind of experience, you should go on the skylift! It's beautiful! Fun place to bring your kids and take beautiful photos of the nature

Definitely come here if you like getting outdoors! Such an awesome place literally minutes from the heart of Launceston. Easy and pleasant walks to be done, many of which seem even stroller accessible (quite a few being pushed as we walked around) Lots of local wildlife plus all the peacocks that call this area home. A neat little cafe on the far side of the gorge with a great deck. Couple of minutes walk to the iconic suspension bridge and further longer walks to be taken up the gorge if you’re keen. Lots of parking, but it is metered, but at the time of visit the maximum day charge was $6. We spent about 1.5-2 hours and took the chairlift one-way to the far side then did the walk back around as we took lots of pics.

We went to the gorge pretty certain that due to my slight disability we wouldn’t have got to see much. The chairlift was likely our best option, but I was concerned about my legs coping with jumping off at the end. I needn’t have worried. They stopped the lift for me to get on safely, and the same at the end to disembark. It wasn’t just me either. What a great service - and a way for all abilities to enjoy such a beautiful place. Lots of more strenuous walks to satisfy all fitness levels. Also a few wildlife encounters which was a bit cool too!

Beautiful place!! 🤩 there's also a swimming pool and some wildlife (peacocks, wallabies and some interesting looking birds) The chairlift is a must, so many great photo opportunities and I'd say paying for the one way is good enough rather than the return because the walk back down isn't as long as you'd think it is. It'd take you only 15 - 20mins unless of course you need the return trip then go for it. Definitely check out the suspension bridge Best to go as early as you can as it can get crowded, especially the line for the chairlift. We came just as the place was opening so there was no line but when were leaving, there was a huge line

Amazing look into history and early settler and convict life

Beautiful little historic cottage, perfect place for relaxation. We felt like we had gone back in time. Perfect set up for us and our 2 well behaved English Bulldogs. Cosy, private, well prepared breakfast provisions and fully self contained for preparing dinner. Definitely will return to spend longer, one night definitely not long enough.

This place is absolutely amazing and we'll worth the time spent.

World heritage listed convict site, many of the old buildings and farm equipment still there to see and photograph. I was only there for a day visit. The accommodation cottages look comfortable from the outside.

We stayed in the well equipped Farm Cottage that was originally built in 1831 and had a lovely time. Very peaceful and surrounded by historic buildings and widlife. We would love to stay again.

We loved Brickendon Pumpkin Cottage! Accommodation was so comfortable and well set up. It was a pleasure to stay in a beautifully kept historical building. The provisions for breakfast were very much enjoyed and the fire set, all ready to light, with plenty of wood to keep it going was a delightful touch. The grounds provide plenty of beautiful, quiet, country vistas to enjoy and the history of the buildings on the grounds is fascinating. Being able to bring our dog made it all the more enjoyable. We will definitely return 😊

We love the Pumpkin Cottage and enjoyed our walks around the site. Very comfortable bed, and good service. A good place to have a relaxing weekend.

We attended at Woolmers Estate for the Convict Tour - our guide was very knowledgeable and asked our son questions along to way which kept him engaged and listening along the way. It was a very hot day and I unfortunately got very burnt - yes I should have applied sunscreen before coming - but as a suggestion this could be provided in the shearing shed at the commencement of the tour? We also went to the restaurant, which isn’t part of the estate, food was really nice, however menu wasn’t suitable for children at all

Fabulous, historic home that lets you learn something about early colonial life plus a fascinating family. Add to this a beautiful, huge rose garden and a fantastic restaurant and gift shop. A must visit attraction.

An interesting art collection in the gallery and the buildings ĥold a lot of colonial history. Worth a walk around to see the rose garden when in bloom.

Woolmers Estate - One of eleven Australian convict sites awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2010. From entry to exit the staff were so helpful and informative. They are obviously as enchanted as we were by this incredible piece of history. Go, take your time, soak in the history and smell the roses. It's worth it! The estate was owned and built by Thomas Archer I, and then subsequently owned by six generations of Thomas Archers. Sadly, when Thomas Archer VI died in 1994 there were no heirs. The property and its contents were bequeathed to the Archer Historical Foundation, now the Woolmers Foundation. Over the six generations things were subsequently added and changed, but the heart of the estate is essentially as it was 200 years ago. It is quite an amazing property to walk around. The main house is entry by tour only. We did the house tour and the convict tour and thoroughly enjoyed them both. You are guided by volunteers who know their stuff and their delivery shows the passion they have for this amazing property and its history. A wonderful place to visit, full of history. A must if you visit Longford. Beautiful gardens & historic buildings. Tours are available. There is also a really nice restaurant there with a gorgeous outlook, plus accomodation.

A beautiful place to visit. When we were there, there was a car club event so it was very busy, a good wait for cups of tea and coffee. I’m sure they did their best to get everyone sorted.

The estate has famous rose garden ,vintage cars and buildings on display. The visitor information centre has restaurant with various food options.The estate has an entry fee for visitors

What a fascinating place to see. We did the guided tour of the Homestead. Our Guide was a distant relative of the original owners and very knowledgeable. The Rise garden was something to see and smell. Loved our visit there.

Beautiful Estate with a fascinating history. Glorious rose gardens, and the grounds were immaculate. Our guide, Margaret, not only filled our ears and brains with amazing facts and stories, she also wrestled a Tasmanian Tiger Snake to the ground and returned it to the Estate's wilderness in order for the tour to continue. 10/10 recommend Margaret and the estate in general.

Very nice historical area to wander around. Lovely gardens, nice set up. Very good lunch. Helpful staff, unfortunately no tours due to sickness. If you only have time for one, do Brickendon instead, but it is good to see both.

Lovely tall mountain lots of snow though it gets real deep great for toboganing and snowboarding the rover ski lodge is highly recommended!

Beautiful shop, neat and tidy promoting Australian wool. You'll find anything you need from jumper to singlet, socks, beanies, scarves and gloves ... There is also a wool museum at the back and part of it explains the history of the town Ross. The Tasmanian Wool Centre is an information centre as well! Make sure to pop in here, it's worth it.

Very good service, a small curated collection of local wool to buy. What is most interesting is the museum collection at the back, with permanent as well as temporary exhibitions. Very informative, vey careful staff, totally worth a visit.

Very worthwhile place to visit! The museum was interesting and informative. Especially interesting display of the different types of merino wool where you can feel the difference texture of each type and learn what they are used for. Very lovely staff. The shop had a big selection of good quality woollen clothing, accessories and other lovely handmade merchandise. Bought a few items for myself and friends. Good to support the local industry too.

Huge range of quality woollen garments as well as a range of children's hand knitted clothing. A great range of wool available bother raw and in skeins together with patterns, needles and crotchet hooks. Brilliant for traveller's itchy fingers! Even some great wool dyes available! Love this outlet. Brilliant.

It was a cute places to visit. It is a store with an attached museum about wool. It talked about the in mates and had wool samples you could touch. I didn't know the breed of the sheep would change the texture of the wool as much as it did. However the goods are a bit expensive and not all of it was made in Australia let alone Tasmania.

It is a wonderful experience to visit Ross Village. We visited here in spring. The scenary was amazing. Wandering under the big trees with young leaves on the street is fabulous.

This is an interesting exhibition showing the history of the wool industry in Tasmania and is worth visiting if you are in Ross. There is also a shop containing a wide range of pure wool clothing items. Entry is free.

We had a short break here in Ross on our road trip. Not much to see here that only one building survives. But it’s not bad for a quick visit as it’s free and easy accessible.

Interesting history. Great views from the site. Worth a stroll around the area and spend time reading up on what it is all about.

It's hard to find good quality museums and attractions for free, so we found this fascinating place very refreshing. The history is dark and compelling, and the staff/researchers have clearly wrung as much detail and personality as they can from a forgotten institution that was only open for a relatively short time and left little photos and illustration. A worthwhile visit that'll only take you about 30/40 minutes to appreciate.

What a fascinating place this was! We saw the sign for “Female Factory” and our curiosity enticed us inside. Surprised to learn that this was the site for female convicts. I found it really interesting reading all the notice boards positioned outside and inside detailing what life was like for the women that served time here. I loved how the original old wallpaper was partially left on the walls.

Very interesting. Lots of history inside the building. Unfortunately nothing else is left but some information stands outside.

A very interesting little free museum with information panels and QR codes for information audios. It only has a very small carpark, but is a very short walk from town

It is a solemn place, the story of the suffering that went on in the factory can be followed through the well placed information plaques scattered around the field and within the heritage building that remains. There are some displays of the the factory's layout within; along with some historic paraphernalia displayed in boxes of the items used in that time period. I recommend this place to couples and history fanatics. Not recommended to bring kids, they won't appreciate the lore of the attraction and there are snakes in the area.

We got the opportunity to do the Serendipity experience, which was hands down one of the best experiences for whiskey tasting I have ever done. Do not be deterred by the price tag of the experience as what you get is above and beyond. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Our tour guide was amazing (even working past the closing time to make sure we got a great experience) If you are into whiskey then look no further.

The only authentic working tower mill in the Southern Hemisphere!! Impressive, beautifully restored – something I never expected to find in such a random town we passed through by accident. Beside it sits a fantastic playground picnic area with water taps, shelter, BBQs. (Lost a star because the windmill was closed both days I was there, and I was dying to go inside)

My family gave me the Serendipity Experience as a 70th birthday gift. My wife and I were also celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. Jose was my assistant and guide for the experience and also at our lunch time meal. He was such a lovely guy, so informative and helpful. He took me through the process. This was the best ever whiskey tasting experience I have had. I would recommend to any whiskey lover. Our meal was delicious and the service provided was impeccable. We are from Tasmania and will be sure to call in again on our way past Oatlands. Thank you again!

This mill is so amazing. The windmill perfectly still in working order! The gardens and grounds are stunning. The town of Oatlands is worth investigating. The locals are so friendly and helpful

An interesting historic site, which sadly was closed on an autumn Sunday. Visitors could wander around the ground though.The restoration looks great, and the adjacent spanking new Distillery which will soon open will be a fine addition to the site.

A first visit to the mill and distillery was a wonderful experience. After hearing great things from friends who have been before us, we made the trip up. The grounds and buildings are very well maintained and the restaurant warm and inviting on a rugged Tasmanian winters day. We had booked a late lunch and looked forward to the offerings. The staff were very attentive and the meals lovely. Paired with a whisky flight, the afternoon was a delight 😊 A very special mention for house manager Josh. He chatted a while with us about our experience at Callington Mill and our thoughts on a favourite whisky. This led to an offer to sample a very rare dram of their first release bottling. I was stoked to be able to taste history in a glass...a delicious combination of PX and Oloroso casks 🥃🥃 Big love to all at Callington Mill for making a very memorable day for my wife and I.

Wow wow wow, what an amazing experience and what a beautiful tourist attraction Callington Mill Team have created in Oatlands TASMANIA. We went there expecting to spend 1 to 2 hours but ended up staying there for half a day and never wanting to leave. The food is nothing short of exceptional and the service is just mind blowing. My wife and I really enjoyed it and thank you for hosting us. We can't wait to come again.

I did a tasting flight Quintessence Emulsion Blue Lake Dark Secret Ranking Emulsion - A good mix of cognac and port in this one, definitely the best of the bunch I tasted here Quintessence - Was great but lacked the character and finish of the emulsion Dark secret - smells like Scotland and has so much potential this one but that initial sweetness kills it for me. Blue Lake - Too sweet Kids play park is brilliant! Location excellently finished Food looked absolutely divine Worth a visit and a stop, whiskey is ok/good.

We visited Callington Mill Distillery last week and have to say, it is a visit that must be done and the "make your own whiskey" experience, is one to not be missed! The Craftsmanship that has gone into this place is incredible. We were in awe of how beautiful and pristine everything looked- took way too many pics. Hubby and I opted for the informative guided tour with whiskey tasting, the make your own whiskey experience and also had a delicious lunch! We will definitely be re-visiting on our next trip to Tas. I also must mention the quality of the staff was second to none- all were friendly, helpful, professional and so informative. You know a place is great when you factor in 2 hours for a visit and end up spending 4 hours, willingly. Thank you for an amazing experience- looking forward to our next visit.

We did the serendipity experience for an 30th birthday and it was incredible. Special shout-out to Josh who guided us every step of the way and made it the most amazing experience. Cannot recommend Callington Mill Distillery or Josh enough, definitely made the trip down from Melbourne well worth it! We also stayed for lunch and the food was so good. Can’t wait to come back.

I can't speak for the distillery but the surrounds and the mill are so worth the visit. Interesting history and they did a very good job of the visual presentations. Highly recommended!

Great tour and tasting, talked to the distillers! Under new ownership, they are expanding and fixing up the site. No lunch option and the moment only coffee and cake other than the whisky. Not much else around the area other than nant. But enjoyed my visit!

Location is beautiful. Staff friendly and helpful. Whisky is superb, cask strength port barrel is my personal favourite. Tours are worthwhile, as they show you through the mill, and then go through the whole whisky making process, which you you an appreciation for the prices of good whisky.

Definitely worth a visit for beginners or experts of whisky. Beautiful sandstone distillery with a working flour mill. Great tour of the building and they show you how the flour mill works during the tour too. Exceptional whisky for tasting and make sure you look out for the platypuses in the pond.

My first visit in 4 years and under new owners. It is such a beautiful and picture perfect Tasmanian distillery. Staff were very friendly and the whiskey is superb. Visitors need to support these ventures that are not on the main roads. Well worth a visit.

The tour and tasting here is a fantastic experience. The property is beautiful and the distillery is a historic masterpiece. Bonnie was our guide and she is a wealth of knowledge and obviously passionate about Tassie whiskeys. If you like good whiskey and want to go see how it's made, make a trip to the Nant!

Yes it is opened again! 7 days a week after it was bought by the new owners in Feb. Kim and Dean both took us through a tasting and we loved Kim's chocolate mudcake infused with port cask nant whisky. The tasting was delicious and we bought some port cask whisky. Staff were fantastic. Grounds are fantastic. Whisky is fantastic. Heading back to do a full tour tomorrow with more time.

Excellent tour, amazing staff and beautiful setting. Well worth the visit. Plans to have the kitchen fully running soon, but still doing tea, coffee, cake, cheese and ploughman's platters, so good for a morning tea or light lunch. Whisky tasting excellent of course!!!

The food was better than expected and reasonably priced. The whisky beef pie was full of flavour. Choose between whisky and gin flights to taste. The whisky was delicious!

Excellent gins and liqueurs. Definitely worth stopping by for a tasting and some bottles. The old building is very cool and looks great as you arrive. Beef whiskey pie was very nice but the chips were quite sad and soggy.

Such a hidden gem in a little town. John, the guide, was very knowledgeable. There is so much history in such a small heritage building. The tour and tasting definitely worth the money. The serving of the lunch/cheese platter was very generous as well as the whiskey tasting. A definitely must to try place and you should not leave emtpy handed. We love their Solera cask batch #5. So much flavour and complexity.

A Whiskey flight tasting was the standard $30 which seems to be the average for 4 x 15ml tastings. You get to choose from 8 on offer. A great selection of single malt whiskeys from this region. The food also on offer was reasonably priced and delicious. Also offered other tastings of gin and liqueurs if Whiskey is not your thing. Staff all very friendly.

Nice place to taste a surprising selection of Tasmanian whiskeys. Nice location with information on whiskey making, decent food with the whiskey and a friendly team. We really enjoyed our time and also took some whiskey home. It is a bit on the expensive side, but certainly something very special to bring back from Tasmania.

Old Kempton Distillery is an amazing must-see if you enjoy whisky! Their sustainability efforts and use of products from the area are commendable, and their award-winning Solera is a standout. The determination to maintain a high quality and the advancement that has already taken place are admirable. The on-site restaurant is a terrific place for a lunch, and the tour is interesting and educational.

Absolutely loved our ride through the bush with Sharon. She took the time out to teach my daughter (9) and partner who have no horse riding experience the best techniques to approach, to steer and to stop a horse. Highly recommend if you love horses. Highly recommend Sharon and her team of horses. A friend and I decided that we would go for a bush ride as we missed riding (it had been years). Now we love it so much that we ride every month (sometimes fortnightly for me). The beach and the bush rides are amazing. The horses are fantastic, quiet, calm and well looked after. From beginners to experienced riders their is a horse that would suit you.

We needed someone to bring my husband from absolute beginner to experienced rider in record time (for an intense 10 day riding trip through the deserts of Namibia). Every person we asked said one name 'Sharon'. So we signed up! Sharon (along with her fab guides) has lived up to the hype and more. We are still a few months away from the trip and my husband is now confident on different horses, at all gaits through rough terrain and has even done some jumping! We have also seen some of the most beautiful places (I have always wanted to gallop down a pristine beach, little did I know that a super moon would be thrown in!). Sharon has a cracking wit combined with a huge heart and she lives and breathes all things horses. We came looking for a quick fix (not really believing that we would find it) and have come away with confidence, many magical memories and a trusted friend.

Absolutely amazing experience! Fiona and Sharon were absolutely lovely, and I rode Nipper who was a sweet boy. We cantered and galloped along with trotting on the beach. I definitely recommend

Magical experience with a superb horse which taught me more in a couple of hours than 9 months of lessons. Best to be pretty fit and comfortable with your balance to get the most out of it though. Amazing trails in one of Tassie's world class forests with a hugely knowledgable guide leading the way. It is now 5 months later and have just had the best ride yet with some obstacles and challenging terrain to help me build cross country experience. In any sport there are those who can learn and those who have the eye to see things and teach. My wife has the eye for the rowing stroke and Sharon has an incredible eye for horse movement and behaviour. Come to ride with an open mind and a sense of humour and you will learn so much more than you expect. This is the antidote to those screen hours that make you miserable.

We had a lovely bush ride with Sharon. Sharon was an amazing instructor, she gave us very thorough training so we all felt safe and could enjoy the ride🙂 We will definitely be back!

Just 5 to 10 min upstream from Russell Falls. It's a beautiful site with crystal clear water and cool shade from the tall trees 70 to 80m tall. You'll need a National Park permit to enter the park.

If you're already at Russel's falls, the horseshoe Falls is only about 15 minutes away - there are some stairs involved. It's quite a pleasant as easy walk though. The waterfall itself is quite small but it's shaped like a horseshoe so it's quite interesting. This is part of the Mount Field National Park so you'll need a National park pass to enter.

Horseshoe Falls is situated in the Mt. Field National Park, and is a short 10 minute walk from the impressive Russell Falls, and about a 50 minute walk from Lady Barron Falls. The walking track is well maintained, meandering through some of Tasmania's best rainforests. The track has information / education signs along the way highlighting fauna and flora which is distinctly unique to the region. From Horseshoe Falls, it is approximately a 1 hour hike to Lady Barron Falls, along the Tall Trees circuit. This walk showcases the tall trees in the area, with information regarding the ecology of the region. The waterfall itself is encased in a natural ampitheatre with eye catching rainforest, and despite not being as well known as Russell Falls, many would regard it the treasure of Mt. Field National Park

Just beautiful, obviously stop at Russell Falls first. A few steps to get to this 1 but my 5 year old son did it no problem. We visited in July and there was a fantastic flow of water. Do yourself a favour and take the family

Great addition when seeing Russell falls. Easy walk. Worthwhile the extra time to see 2 waterfalls at the same time.

This beautiful waterfall is located in Mount Field National Park. There is a short walk from the visitor's to get there. The walk up to the Russell Falls is flat. But after that there are well maintained steep steps to climb. Shape of the waterfall is like a horseshoe. That may be the reason behind the name.

This place is 1 hour drive from Hobart City. There is an entry fee of $40 to visit this park. It is not worth paying this, just for entering this place. But you can use this pass to visit other national parks in Tasmania. There is car park available and need to display the entry ticket under your windscreen. The water fall is 10 minutes walk from the visitor centre. You walk through dense forest and it is a great experience. Lot of big trees, Fern trees, Wild mushrooms, Streams, etc. The path is well maintained and not really steep. The water fall is not that great, if you are just visiting the fall. But there is a trail for walking and you can walk if you enjoy walking in the forest.

So worth it. It’s such a short walk to a beautiful waterfall. It’s so close you can feel it! I carried my 2 months old and was fine - definitely worth it. Make sure you buy the National park fee $44 ish for a vehicle and we went to a few parks within 24hrs and so it was worth every penny!! There’s a visitor centre there so you can buy tickets there.

One of my favourite waterfalls in Tasmania. The walk to the falls is easy and pleasant. We continued on further from there but if you only want to see the falls it’s about a 25 minute round trip. We had lunch at the cafe first before commencing our hike. Easy to read signs are posted for clear directions. Ample parking available. Toilet facilities are clean. So many fascinating trees to see along the way.

This is an amazing place with some super scenic lookouts. The walk is not too demanding, except for the top bit, but still manageable. By most part wheelchairs accessible.

A fantastic short easy walk part excellent gravel track and part boardwalk. However along the way some spectacular trees, rainforest and then at the end one of the best falls I've seen. The track to connect the walk to the horseshoe Falls was closed in August 2022 due to a fallen tree.

I had a wonderful experience visiting this place in Hobart. It's a must-visit destination if you're in the area. The walk through the woods was incredibly refreshing, and I thoroughly enjoyed taking in the breathtaking beauty of the waterfalls. It was truly a lovely and memorable time.

A lovely waterfalls, with an easy, clear pathways to the falls. Lots of mushrooms and beautiful scenery along the path. We had injured knees and managed the path fairly easily. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Just amazing! A very easy walk to Russell Falls from the visitor centre, 25mins return. Highly recommend visiting after it’s been raining for a few days to see it really in action. At night you can even go and see the glow worms, it was very exciting but take a torch with you for the way back as it’s pitch black! Very pleasant and enjoyable experience. Can’t wait to visit again one day.

Deviating 30 km from our original plan to explore Russell Falls was the best decision. This natural wonder provides a captivating experience, with picturesque displays of nature's beauty surrounded by lush greenery. The soothing sound of cascading water enhances the tranquility of the surroundings. Russell Falls is a must-visit destination for those seeking a peaceful escape into nature.

The Russell Falls, a tiered–cascade waterfall on the Russell Falls Creek, is located in the Central Highlands region of Tasmania, Australia. The Russell Falls are situated on the eastern boundary of Mount Field National Park, 100 metres (330 ft) downstream of the Horseshoe Falls, approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) northwest of Hobart via the Brooker and Lyell highways. Accessible by a paved walking track, the falls are a popular tourist attraction. The waterfall descends over horizontal marine Permian siltstone benches, while the vertical faces of the falls are composed of resistant sandstone layers.

Absolutely breathtaking. The walk in was beautiful, there is a glow worm grotto along the walk in which would be amazing at night. I will be back to go up to horseshoe falls. You do need a parks pass to go here but easily purchased online before hand or at the Mt field visitor centre upon arrival.

Absolutely beautiful waterfall, and wonderful rainforest walk trail! We went for a day walk and in the evening after sunset saw the glow worms in the "Glow worm grotto". A must do day trip if you're staying in Hobart.

Very easy short walk - start from the Mount Field National Park. Only 20-25 minutes return. Good for the elderly and children. You'll need a National Park pass to enter. You can continue the walk from here and do a loop if you like, the whole walk is pretty good and easy. Walks can get muddy so wear good shoes!

It is a great walk with a beautiful view of the falls. Keep an eye out for the platypus. The terrain is pretty easy, but I recommend good walking shoes. There is a good cafe at the visitor centre.

A beautiful location, situated in a tall tree rain forest. It's just a short 15 min walk from the visitor centre. If you walk another 5 min you'll find yourself at the Horseshoe Falls further upstream. You'll need a National Park permit to enter the site.

Excellent place caring for our injured wildlife and giving them a forever home. A great place to bring kids and even the grand parents. A great family adventure. You get to feed the kangaroos and can even book a night time view of all the nocturnal animals. Wish there were more places like this around

Absolutely wonderful place. I spent my birthday here and couldn't have wished for a better place. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. Kangaroos are super friendly (and hungry!) so feel free to feed them with the food provided. I recommend booking one (or more) of the closer experiences - totally worth it.

A great way to spend half a day. This sanctuary is small and simple and a lot of fun for adults and children alike. We loved the tour included in our tickets, such an informative session with lots of great information. The food range on offer is limited but tasty. Our toddler loved feeding the kangaroos! The insight into how they rescue injured wildlife was really interesting.

They're doing wonderful work here to rehabilitate animals and educate people. The guided tour was very interesting and informative but didn't cover all the animals, only Tasmanian devils and echidnas. I would have loved to learn about the other animals there. The guide did mention that they're expanding but I was quite surprised by how small it was. It was a very hot day when we visited so we didn't see the wombat at all, as it was hiding in its den. We did have the chance to interact with kangaroos and wallabies with no fence in between and they also take food out of your hands. There is complimentary feed in boxes along the way and they were very friendly.

Very chill. Vegan snack bar was a plus. Join the tour for better education. Hand feed the Roos. It’s a rescue center too. Drive out from Hobart is pleasant. Plan on a couple of hours to leisurely observe and take the right photos

I FINALLY SAW A WOMBAT!!! So cute! It was the highlight. The staff were really knowledgeable and informative. Would recommend you join their free tours where they bring you around to the wombat and Tasmanian devils enclosures. Unfortunately when we went, the kangaroo enclosure was closed due to introduction of new joeys. The place isn’t very big but you get to see all the main Australian species. They run on entrance fee collected from visitors, so do give them the support!

Highlight of our Aussie trip! Absolutely loved this place and the interaction we had with the animals (we did the night tour and got to feed kangaroos, tasmanian devils, wombats, birds among many others). It was heartwarming to see the rescue animals treated so well and hearing each of their stories made it extra special. Our guide, Monica, was fantastic and so passionate about what she does. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!

The sanctuary is amazing and surely is worth a visit. We mainly visited the sanctuary to see the Tasmanian devils but we were surprised by way more than just Tasmanian devils. The sanctuary tickets are quite pricey, but that’s understood as the ticket fees are flowing into the sanctuary itself. With the Tasmanian devils and the different encounters available including the kangaroo feeding area, it makes the place worth the visit. And not to forget mentioning the amazing 110 year old cockatoo Peter, hope to see you again safe and sound in perfect health !!

All the staff genuinely care for the animals, are friendly and knowledgeable. You can get up close and personal with the animals & also view through a 2 way mirror where the animals go for surgery ect. There’s a cute little vegan place that serves the most delicious home made recipes <3

Ample parking available near the sanctuary. Free kangaroo feed with each entry pass purchased. We joined one of the tour and love the sharing of information. Educational for both adults and children. Wild rabbits roam freely in the park. There’s a small food & drink kiosk, should one need a bite.

A lovely experience with some good feelings to take away. Bonorong are saving animals, giving them good homes and educating us with a great day out. Knowledgeable, helpful staff and a stroll around feeding the kangaroos and aweing over the devils was relaxing and fun. I recommend.

The Carers at the sanctuary were all fantastic, you can hear their passion and sincerity for the animals during their tours and general walk around. Whilst it's sad to learn of the animals making their way to this sanctuary, it's fantastic to know this exists as it is the only Wildlife sanctuary in Tasmania which was surprising. It's not a Zoo, so don't expect fancy themed enclosures and gimmicks, the sanctuary is essentially a safe place for orphaned or rehabilitation animals, it wasn't a bother for us because we knew the money went directly to supporting the Sanctuary and their animal's care. The trip out to Bonorong was fantastic seeing the terrain, farms and countryside was soothing. Highlight was to see active echnidnas, Tasmanian devils and Winnie the Wombat.

We loved Bonorong Sanctuary. Its a small sanctuary doing amazing work with an excellent selection of animals in their care for visitors to view. We took the private feeding tour which was worth the investment. Feeding and cuddling stella the 11 month old wombat, and feeding the tassie devils were highlights. Highly recommend visiting, especially if you have children who love animals.

We went to do an animal encounter and ended up staying and doing a night tour - honestly best decision we made! Was such an insightful tour and Robyn was an amazing guide. We learnt so much about all the animals, the conservation efforts Bonorong has in place and also got up close with them and gave them their dinner. We learnt all the animals names, their stories, fun facts about each of them and really entered their world! It was such a fun time and an experience I will never forget. Robyn is also so lovely, great to chat with, and was such an insightful guide. We visited from mainland but can’t wait to come back.

This sanctuary all of its members and volunteers have done so much for these animals and continue to do so. We’re visiting from Melbourne and decided on a trip to Bonorong today. We spent in excess of three hours enjoying everything this place had to offer. The animals were amazing, the staff were courteous and very well-informed (including the short tour) and the vegan food stall was awesome. Thanks for all you’re doing for wildlife and animals in general.

One of the best sanctuaries I have ever been to. The little ones loved it and were very impacted by the work that is done by the volunteers. We had a lot of fun with the animals and were introduced to new ones like the quill and the little echidnas. The vegan cafe was excellent with the variety of options and we actually ordered everything!

Such a fun wildlife sanctuary. You’re Guaranteed to see a Tasmanian Devil, more kangaroos than you could want plus a plethora of other interesting critters. The on sight animal hospital also offers an opportunity to learn more about some of Australia’s fragile wildlife. Be sure to stop at the gift shop on the way out to grab a present or two for yourself and someone back home; you’re supporting a great cause. Overall the staff and facility are top notch and I’ll be back on my next visit.

This was genuinely the highlight of my visit to new Norfolk. Some incredible history,and magnificent established trees from around the world . Truly a serene relaxing few hours plus most magnificent salmon crêpe for lunch.

Great day out if you are into this kind of thing, fresh air, places to picnic or BBQ. Extremely reasonable entrance fees. Lively fish. The restaurant was the winner for me, Pancakes were great, as was the customer service. If you are into the history of trout fishing etc, lots of information.

Visited this place on our trip to Tasmania. It is 45 minutes drive from Hobart City. There is an entry fee and is reasonable. You can buy family ticket. You can feed the fish with using $2 food from a wending machine. The farm is beautifully maintained and you can feed the fish. There are several ponds and variety of fish. You can also visit museum of of Trout Fishing. The area is well kept. There are plenty of parking. Unfortunately you cannot catch the fish. There is a cafe in the premises. Worth visiting this place.

Great stop for some history, nice photos, coffee and food just 10km from New Norfolk town centre the entry to the place of a place lined up with trees on both sides gives you a feel of a place you want to capture . There is a large variety of trees and reflections in the pond are just amazing. Best of all the salmon, rainbow trouts and other fish in the pond who you can feed and observe closely when they come up, so many of them. There is ample parking, toilets. Entry fee is $8 for adults and $4-5 for kids as of April 2023 . Have been there twice and will return on our next trip to Tassie

Feb 2022. I used to love visiting the Salmon Ponds as a child and teen. The venue would always be well presented and well maintained. Sadly it seems to have been let go and forgotten about. The ponds are clogged with algae and water weed, the ponds are lightly stocked and the fish are so stressed that they rarely eat the food and are breathing super heavy. Although they have a traffic light sign above the food dispenser, this doesn't stop you from purchasing more food to clog up the ponds. It's almost as if they're in dire need for cash that they let this happen to increase cashflow. That said, $8 entry per person is reasonable, but the restaurant/cafe is super overpriced, for the small servings offered. The ponds themselves are in a state of dilapidation, and nothing like they were 20 years ago. The hatchery smalls horribly of stale water. The hatchery has a handful of token fry, on different stages, again, nothing like they once had years ago. I really want to see the Salmon Ponds thrive, but it needs love and attention, something it isn't provided at present.

Fantastic to go to! We don’t eat fish but loved feeding them in the pond and museum was interesting too. Saw some eels as well as trout and there were more but I have a lack of knowledge about fish. Worth a stop. Although I had some nice crepes there I was a bit disappointed as it says pancakes by the pond and I was expecting pancakes not crepes. I think they need to change it to “Crepes by the pond”

Well maintained property. This is a hatchery with many exotic trees and a few ponds showcasing different types of trout, as well as one type of salmon. Visitors also get access to barbecue facilities. Good place for a family to spend the day. Kids would also be able to feed the fish for $2. Admission for adult is $8 and you get free entrance to the museum.

So glad we stopped to visit! Loved seeing the fish ponds, and we were lucky enough to see a platypus which lives in the creek over the back but burrows it’s way in for a free feed! Great for the kids to feed the fish, they’re so big! Enjoyed some pancakes in the cafe afterward and purchased some local cider!

Worthwhile stop near New Norfolk in Hobart's Derwent Valley. This heritage listed venue is historic as it is peaceful. Enjoyable time for kids enabling them to feed the (mostly) hungry fish as well as seeing the resident platypus in action, if you are there on a lucky day! Plenty of options for a restful picnic lunch within the grounds under one or more of the beautiful heritage trees around the ponds.

Was a fun place to visit and learn about the animals as there were lots of informative talks throughout the day. We also booked in for the Lion experience and loved that... they were so amazing up close... I just wanted to cuddle them!

The whole family had a great afternoon at Zoodoo! We will be purchasing the annual pass as it is definitely worth it. Our family are new residents to Tassie so have loved seeing Tasmanian Devils and meeting the friendly kangaroos.

Took our Granddaughter in the hopes that you could still go on the bus ride through the ostriches and camels. We were disappointed to find that they don't do that anymore. I found it to be a bit pricey for what was on offer. In saying that, we still enjoyed ourselves and are glad that we went.

I liked it here. There are some beautiful animals and some animals I've never seen before in other mainland zoos. The Wombats were awake and active, and we got to watch a feeding. The zoo is wheelchair and pram friendly, and the gradient isn't too step, but you can give yourself a nice workout if you tried. All the animals in the petter areas were friendly and approachable, and all the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The kids play area and small cafe is a great place to have a rest if planning on spending all day, or grabbing and ice cream on the way out. I had to remove a star as the entire kids' area smelt like cigarette as people were by their cars smoking, and it came directly in, not very healthy unfortunately. But overall, it was a wonderful day out for the family.

Such a fun little place - lots of good animals both native and imported. Really good keeper chats. Excellent farmyard and wallaby feeding paddocks too. Bravo on your efforts on preserving Swift Parrots too.

The zoo is not big but full of fun. You can interact with kangaroos and other animals. The animals look healthy. I think the zoo keepers are doing a great job.

Went there for the zoo experience and it didn’t disappoint, worth every cent and a must do, we did the full experience it was the extra cost , with out this experience I wouldn’t of thought much of the zoo but this has left a ever lasting impression and the hands on experience gave a good insight into the keepers and the animals and there individual personalities,

We chose to spend a day in Zoodoo zoo as our last day of the Tassie trip. The price may be a bit expensive but I felt totally worthy as the zookeepers and staffs took care of the animals very well. Once you got in, you can visit big cat lion, zebra, monkey and have a chance to feed kangaroos and donkey. The overall visiting experience for me is that, Zoodoo zoo felt more like a 'farm' than a 'zoo' as all animals are living happily and peacefully. Highly recommend the experience🐒🐱🐈🦁🦓🐪🐐🦥

A medium-size zoo. I enjoyed watching zebras 🦓. You can spot other Australian animals too. The zoo is worth visiting once.

The setting of the zoo was out of the suburbs. There was quite a lot of conservation information. The variety of animals for the size of the zoo was quite adequate. Being able to feed macropods (kangaroos) and farm animals was delightful.

It was pretty awesome seeing Australia's oldest surviving large stone arch bridge built by convicts still operating today. Recommend checking it out if you're in Richmond. Was able to get free parking nearby which was a bonus.

This bridge was well worth the visit while we were in Richmond. The stonework and detail was brilliant. There is lovey arches next to the water which you can walk through and there are parks either side of the bridge that you can stop for a picnic.

Beautiful piece of engineering in the lovely town of Richmond. Over 200 years old as construction started in 1823. Be sure to check out the old mill that sits on the other side of the bridge, it is now a private residence and B&B.

Honestly, a bit over rated place. It's popular because it's Australia's oldest bridge. You can include a trip on your ways but i won't be specifically going to visit this place. A good place for family with kids. They can feed ducks and have a little picnic on the greener side of the bridge. For adults, ideal time is around sunset. There are ample amount of bar's and cafe around. Parking available. No entry fee.

Yes this beautiful old bridge in Richmond was worth a stop! The oldest bridge in Australia 🇦🇺 We loved the structure and detail. So nice watching the ducks & black swans- they look very much at home! Was nice to walk under the bridge and see it from both sides. I thought it would have been quiet there as far as traffic goes but there was a constant flow of cars crossing the bridge.

Engineering technology of yesterday is classic in this structure. It holds intrigue for those who want to look closely and not see it as not just a bridge. Construction happening to put in pathways on and around it is marvelous - well done constuction people.

Wow, what a sight to see. I saw this location feature on a TV show like post cards. Felt inspired to go for the drive and check it out. From the bridge we walked for ice cream up the road. How can it get any better?

Richmond Bridge and Richmond Village are both very historic and picturesque. The walks around and near the bridge are a must as the architecture of the bridge looks great from different angles. While there try to get over to the St John’s Church and Cemetery.

One of the most picturesque places I've ever visited. The oldest bridge in the country is surrounded by fastidiously maintained walking paths and lush green lawns. There are many Ducks and other water birds around that add to natural beauty of the area. Picnic tables and barbecue facilities are situated close by and the whole area is just serene.

When you get close to the bridge, you can the marks on the stones as the blocks were shaped by convicts. The park nearby provides a picturesque view of the bridge. It’s well worth a visit and closer look.

What a beautiful bridge, 201 year old today. The whole area is picturesque. It's quite busy when we rocked up, had to park around the corner. Must stop and visit if passing by the area.

We love it here! I suggest to park near the bakery, get a coffee and pastry and enjoy the short stroll down to the bridge, and sit and enjoy the view. There are always ducks around, and you can pick up a bag of food from the bakery or bring along your own oats. They ducks are friendly and happy to be fed.

Definitely an experience to add to your bucketlist whilst in Tasmania. Personally- the actual museum was not overly impressive. The artwork was mediocre and overall 2 hours is more than ample time to experience the museum + return ferry ride. Getting there: we went by ferry which was a joyful and picturesque ride (we went standard - not the Posh Pit and paid $25 return). You can buy your tickets online which I recommend in the peak season (we visited in December) as the ques will have you waiting over 20 minutes. Trip is ~25minutes each way and you need to select your departure and return time. This is important as once on the island changing your return ticket time is very tricky when busy. There is a box office on the island to change your return time if needed. Museum: tickets were $35 adult (All up, a $60 day trip with the ferry). We actually preferred the outdoor artwork, lookout points and entertainment/food/drinks on the hill which you can enjoy without am entry ticket to the museum. There is not a lot of shade, so pack your hat and sunscreen. Definitely would return but as a lunch or evening trip to enjoy drinks and food and entertainment on the hill (and bypass the museum).

Weirdest museum I have ever visited. But, I love it. Free admission for Tasmanians. If you appreciate art, you can easily spend one full day here. If you don't appreciate contemporary art, don't waste your time here.

The building is great designed and the space function of the building is placed in an interesting way. Makes it possible to walk around and see the museum thoroughly But the exhibit itself is strange. and shocked the people who visited the exhibition too This makes it impossible to access the main idea that you want to convey. Like focusing on the extreme Not suitable for bringing young children to attend the event.

Mona is an impressive venue, and my visit from 10 am to 3 pm allowed me to explore its vast collection. The sheer magnitude of exhibits can be overwhelming, so I recommend starting at the bottom and taking a break for lunch before tackling the remaining floors. Be prepared to dedicate the whole day to fully appreciate everything Mona has to offer.

Truly world class experience... It's not just the artworks but the experience. From the giant snake mural by Sidney Nolan that gets more detailed as you explore closer to the immersive visit to a sarcophagus in a darkened water filled room there's a surprise around every corner. Make sure you allocate several hours. There's a bar inside and often music. Catch the ferry across for an even more enjoyable experience

Best museum! Very interesting and engaging exhibits. We went on a public holiday, so it was very busy, however staff were courteous and wait times were minimal. Delicious food was also available in the garden at a reasonable price with good, live entertainment. Car parking was also very close and easy. Would definitely come again!

The building and grounds are amazing and that's just the start. This museum is well worth a visit in Hobart, and I can see why it has its popular reputation. The ferry ride is well worth it too, the river is stunning. Plan for at least 3 hours, if not more to sit, eat a meal and enjoy the live music.

I loved MONA so much. Weirdest pieces of art, but honestly so riveting and highly relevant to our day and age. The location itself is beautiful, it's situated right next to the water. The architecture of the museum alone is worth paying a visit to see. I particularly liked the MONA app - it has some quality information about the art pieces and it specifically shows you what exhibits you are standing near so that you can read up on them. Great way to give prominence to the artists and their interpretation. The MONA cafe had the most expensive but delicious cheese toasty I've had in my life - can't stop thinking about it. All in all, very thought-provoking and whether or not you are able to appreciate the art, you will definitely admire the architecture and scenery. Take your sense of humour and an open mind, and this will make for a great experience.

This is the greatest modern art museum in the world, bar none. Beautifully set underground with natural rock formations all around you. Unlike most museums, art work is not separated by era, you will see ancient tablets next to digital art. This continuity really inspires and connects like no other collection I’ve seen. The design of the space is also impeccable and human centered. Comfortable chairs and couches all around that seem like they could be part of an exhibit, but purposefully set aside for you relaxation and enjoyment. Tactfully placed mirrors behind the works and use of dim lighting makes it clear that the visitors are themselves part of the art. That being said, the museum is not pretentious in the slightest; quite the contrary, their sarcastic and self deprecating style makes the space more inclusive and is quite endearing and entertaining. This reflects in the up/down rating system and digital comments people leave on each art piece. Honestly hard for me to find fault in this place; the outside is not neglected, and the cocktail bar within the museum would be worth a visit as a stand-alone bar. Can’t wait to return. I highly recommend taking the museum’s ferry from Hobart too, this is absolutely part of the experience. Definitely plan at least a half day.

This place was described to me as amazing and fantastic as well as terrible. Since I’m not likely to get back to Tasmania any time soon, I opted to check it out. The Story behind the creation of the museum holds as much interest as the place itself. The art. Installations were not appealing to me, with the exception of the light prisms room (outside the area that requires a ticket) and the Richard Wilson’s piece that is constructed of used sump oil and steel. I struggled to appreciate the large wall of dead flies and resin as art. Watching the expressions of visitors was more interesting. I understand from locals that the installations change regularly. The locals do not pay an entry fee so it is easy to get value for a visit. For me, the hype far overshadowed the value. The art was not to my liking.

I took the ferry from Hobart, about a 30 minute trip there. Alcohol and food served on board. There is a VIP option offered with service to the seat and front view of the trip. What an awesome experience at the gallery, the outside garden is nice to sit and chill in also. Very cool experience. We left it later in the day but I think lunch time would be better to get it all in.

I came here with my mother during our hobart trip. It was an experience! There are some artworks that reference sexual things and mild gore, but there is adult content warnings around so you can avoid those if you plan on bringing children. It is advertised as having old and new art, but to be honest, it is not much old art like my mother was hoping. But the modern art was very expressive! I really enjoyed looking at the different mediums - so much creativity! However, I do wish there was an artist’s statement that you could read. Everyone was on their phones using the app, which didn’t describe much of the artworks in depth. Food is not very great. There is a bar and pizza place inside, bur it is very dark in there. The outside area was super fun and had amazing views of the mountains, though! Overall - you could still bring your children here, just make sure to avoid adult content if you don’t want your child seeing that. This museum is not as interactive as others, and could be overwhelming for those with sensory issues. It was an interesting experience! I had never experienced anything like this before, but I do wish there was more description to the art itself. I would come again ☺️

Best way to spend a day or two. They are very disability friendly. My blind husband was given a personal tour and allowed to feel certain pieces of art. It was fantastic

It’s hard to believe that I’ve only just managed to visit this gallery, after decades of desperately wanting to! This museum is GREAT! Literally the best gallery in the world that I’ve been to, including those in Firenze, Italy. MONA is an entire artistic experience… from the moment you enter, it’s like being transported inside a Salvador Dali painting. The focus on surrealism really did things for me. No boredom where: many of the installations are interactive, or landscapes that you walk through. Every kid I saw in the place loved it as much as the adults. In fact, everyone should ensure that their kids get to spend at least one whole day exploring MONA. My only criticism is that some of the staff were incredibly rude, which was a pity when the art was so enjoyable and their whole job was to interact with the public and be helpful and friendly! But even those bad apples couldn’t ruin the crumble. Visit this place. It will blow your mind!

An absolutely stunning experience for the senses is perhaps the only proper way to describe my experience here. The art, the sounds, the magic they create with light (or darkness) and spider webs, amongst many other things is just unbelievable. I would recommend a minimum of 3 hours to explore this place, although I reckon we could've spent 5 hours here easily! The staff were very knowledgeable and polite as well so overall a superb experience.

Interesting artworks and a beautiful building. However there are no signs/information displayed next to artworks - you have to use your phone and download an app, which I don’t think suits all age groups. Nice cafe inside. Car parking is very bad for such a popular attraction. 1-2 hours was plenty of time for us.

Due to time restrictions we couldn't enjoy the full experience and were restricted to visiting the grounds for a stroll and a coffee. It is a wonderful place to walk through and enjoy the art installations. Very hands on and a hive of activity for adults and children.

Well I did not stay in the hotel for it being private museum. It was pretty impressive when you take it all in. I highly recommend you take your time. It was a very interesting experience but in a very positive way. The service was amazing. The employees were very helpful. I will come back.

Definitely something different! This museum is architecturally amazing, one of the finest in the world. If you're trying to do it on the cheap, you can honestly just walk around outside and get some of the best bits! Inside, many of the artworks are stunning and outside of the box. However, our family found it frustrating that you need to use the app to discover any information about the art. As you can imagine, with kids, walking to to art, funding it on a device and huddling around to all read it isn't the most enjoyable. The outside area is delightful. Playground and cafe with fantastic views. 🎟️ Entry is free for Tasmanians, $35 for everyone else. Free lockers. ⛴️ The Mona ferry adds to the experience! Sit on a sheep!

What an absolute MUST do experience. The museum itself was phenomenal. So much to see. From ancient artefacts to modern adult only content to the spectacular architecture it’s a truly a place we will go back to many times. We did the wine tasting and the staff were so informative and the wine was fabulous. Don’t miss the library. They had recording equipment used to record almost all of the Beatles albums, Pink Floyd’s dark side of the moon and many more. The staff there were also incredibly friendly and helpful. Loved this experience. Highlight of the year for me.

WOW, what an interesting place to visit. Some really amazing exhibits. We only visited for the day to check out the museum, and it was well worth it. I can certainly see why some view it as very controversial and confronting. It's great to see something different like this.

If you are visiting Tassie, it’s a must to visit MONA! Outdoors is gorgeous and indoors is just so much fun and so unique. It’s highly recommended to take the ferry as that is an experience itself. There is so much to see and experience at MONA so prepare to spend a full day here. The food at Faro was absolutely amazing and they had some unique entertainment happening while you dine! Super interesting! Also make sure to download the app and book some of the experiences in advance on the day via the O app.

Had a great time at the museum. The museum isn’t a typical one that you could expect, and that’s why it’s interesting and fun to us. We could understand it might not be suitable for children or older generations. But we couldn’t get why it’s controversial, in our point of view it’s very artistic and had a great range of collection of arts. The environment surrounding the museum is also great, could easily spend a day here.

Orderd my first bottle with nonesuch a few weeks back first off the layout and simplicity of the website made the entire process easier. Shipping was prompt and arrived well packed and safe. The whisky is quite well priced with all factors taken into consideration especially when some releases are only 24 bottles. Nonesuch Distillery is our newly found favourite distillery in Tas. We loved the whole experience, they make some delicious Gin and Whisky here. Thankyou Rex for showing us around, can’t wait to open our bottle of Sloe gin :)

Amazing whisky produced by Chris and the team at Nonesuch, have really enjoyed the unique Triple Grain expression. Chris has a great attitude toward distilling and whisky in general, absolutely looking forward to a distillery tour soon!

This is such a beautiful spot, easily accessible by car, with plenty of parking spots usually becoming available with short or no wait at all. Great place to see the city specially if you can’t or don’t want to hike to get to an amazing viewpoint. Toilets available at the top. There’s some hike options starting at the top, midway up or bottom. From half a day walks to full day walks. There’s a coffee shop midway up. I recommend going when the sky is clear or mostly clear as otherwise you might not see anything at all (it happened to me once)

Pretty scenic. Super Uber windy up there… not sure if it’s suitable for small kids. U gotta tie the kids round your waist to keep them from flying away😂🤣

Mount Wellington is so incredibly beautiful I've been here twice this week. From the Chalet, the organ pipes trail is perfect for a family hike. From the springs to the summit is a great adult hike (lots of climbing). Fantastic views, I was lucky with the weather.

Spectacular view on the summit, well worth the drive! A must do whilst in Hobart. Bring a warm jacket regardless of the weather, it can be very cold & windy. Please drive carefully up and down as there are many wildlife around!

Driving all the way up to the pinnacle was fun with great views of Hobart on left and right. The road gets a bit tricky around turns but still enjoyable. The parking at the top seems to be overflowing most of the time but there are a couple of other ones prior the summit. Weather was good but bush flies were everywhere. The vegetation is not the live green and it is still Aussie bush style.

A must go to place when visiting Hobart. The view is spectacular and the coldness 🥶 is so memorable.

Extremely beautiful spot without having to hike. We went with Tassie Tours but can be easily accessed by car. Lot of parking spots available. Great view of the city. There are a few walks around (with different difficulty levels) for anyone who wants to hike. We went on a party cloudy day and the view was heavenly. It’s usually a busy spot so would recommend going on a weekday. Toilets available at the top. No cafes/restaurants available on the site.

My buddy and I decided to take a trip out to see Mount Wellington ourselves. It was quite the surreal experience seeing the view with my own eyes. Well worth it!

Beautiful spot! The bus driver was fantastic of our tour! He explained everything about the history. It was chilly up there and there was little snow which was melting.

If you're visiting Hobart this is a must! We drove up about 4pm in early October and the weather was perfect! The drive is fairly twisty and narrow and requires good weather conditions. Beautiful views at the top! Something out of a movie! Probably has the most picturesque bathrooms in Hobart. Full views off the island. Some great walks. We did some of the zigzag track, but I'd recommend checking what's open for walking before going. Great 360 views 👏

Absolutely worth the drive up if the weather is clear. Amazing view back toward Hobart city. We went on dusk and it was very quiet. Be warned it is VERY cold up there compared to in the city. The colder weather plus wind factor was hard to deal with. Glad we had beanies and heavy coats. The observatory does provide some relief from the wind but it doesn't let you see the view from all angles. Some very unique plant life up there and the rock formations were spectacular.

Very windy, but worth it for the view. Be very careful driving up Mt Wellington in the car, roads are very narrow and you need to be mindful of cars coming back down the mountain.

Beautiful views from Mount wellington on a sunny summer day. The drive is easy up the hill and lots of parking available. Sometimes it is challenging to find a car park. Bus services are also available. Toilet facilities and garbage disposal bin is provided. You do not have to pay anything but encouraged to keep the place clean. Small walks are available and benches for sitting is too. You can see Hobart habour from Mt Wellington. There was strong winds when we visited in 2020. A great place to have picnic lunch or dinner and watch the sunset.

When we arranged our trip to Tasmania in winter everyone found it wrong decision however the day we visited the mountain; yes it was cold but it was a sunny day which we found ourselves lucky 😉 During the winter most of the tourist attractions were not too crowded which is good to take the photos with less people 🙏 get your winter hats, gloves, coats and always check the weather forecast beforehand.

Especially the sunrise and sunsets times 🫠 This place is a must visit when you’re in Tassy. It’s a short drive from Hobart, or you may tk the explorer bus or walk/hike to get here. Awesome view but ruined by windy weather. I'm not sure if it's always windy, but the weather was nice on the foot hill, but as soon as we reached the top, it was super windy.

Well, it's all about the view. And it delivers! Winding road takes you to the peak. Various hikes take the more energetic to the peak as well

Beautiful Mount Wellington. Wish it was a clear sunny day but still great view and enjoyed the nature walking. Went up by the tour bus and walked down for two hours, then took a bus to the city. It was windy and cold in the top of mountain, must bring a jacket.

At only 1.200 m it certainly transports it into a different world, we cheated and took Uber up as it was a crazy hot day, then walked down on the combination of trails, got lost in the process too but it was well worth it. Make sure you dress appropriately, I was freezing at the top, sturdy shoes a must, best if above ankles.

The drive is a bit dangerous, be sure to go slow as the road is a bit narrow and can get slippery when wet. The boardwalk tops it and it's as breathtaking as the views you'd see in NZ. Crisp fresh air !

One of my most favourite spots. Have a great birdeye view and varying landscapes. It can get a bit cold so bring a wind breaker. There is also a toilet with heating in the event it gets too much. It does snow up there in winter.

Excellent for thoughts who don’t know every 1,000 ft above sea level the temperature drops about 2deg C. Be prepared also expect it to be breezy and study signs on the way up it may be completely clouded in on part of your journey. Stay safe and enjoy the magnificent views

It's just 45 min drive from Hobart international airport and must visit place in Tasmania. The top of the mountain is so windy. And also you can see the whole Hobart from here. This is just so unreal. And you can see the ships sailing through the sea too.

Very good market with lots of unique item availability. This is open on Saturday & Sunday 9 to 2 pm in winter only. Live band , shows and very good seating with vegan & Vegetarian food options Must visit if you are at Hobart Also vegetable & fruits stall ware there Superb market

The apples at this stand are amazing, with very unique varieties that are completely different from those in the supermarkets. Both the quality and taste are excellent! Also some other fruit stands from other local farms! Plus, it supports the farmers! The prices are affordable! Hope these business get better and better!

This big street market held on Saturday has variety of food, cloths, arts, and music. It was crowded with a lot of patrons and people walk around with fun, smiles, and happiness although wearing masks seems to be required due to still ongoing COVID after mobile app checked-in from different entrance. Nevertheless it was the best place to be worth of spending time with a family and friends enjoying delicious dishes and eye-shopping. Definitely recommended.

lots of interesting stalls, very nice atmosphere. parking is relatively hard to find. best is to walk/get a ride here. i came around 9.30am, manageable crowd but the market could get pretty crowded at around 11am.

The biggest most impressive markets over every seen in Australia. So many local artisans and artists, you can meet the people who have made the goods! It's always nice to learn something about the makers you buy from, I think. Nice little food, coffee, and lolly stalls. Really well run and organised. I wish that I 1. could've spent longer browsing and talking to the artisans and that I 2. had more money to spend supporting all the different crafters.

Great place to visit. Prices are high but it seems all good quality. I brought a hand made leather bag and have used it every day since. Also enjoyed the wallaby burritos. And they staff were great about dietary requirements.

As former marketeers 🙏 this was a must visit for us on our trip to Tasmania! We weren’t disappointed, weather was perfect, surrounds we’re full of history and character, the was is well run, the stalls were varied and very well displayed, some amazing artists, food was very good and even the buskers were great 😊

Great stalls showcasing local art and crafts. Lots of options for delicious food and drink. Our highlights were the sourdough doughnuts and the freshly pressed apple juice. Don't forget to look in the stores along the side of the market. There was a great exhibit by a local artist working with seaweed. Very interesting.

To be honest they're pretty over rated. No different to any another market in Aus with bumped up prices to cater to the tourist, food trucks would make a killing that's for sure. As for souvenirs no different to any shop around TAS just dearer. The best part to me was the view of Mt Wellington in the background and the Docks nearby to check out the vessels. Save your $$ and walk back into the CBD

What a fabulous Market! The Salamanca Market is huge and took us 3 hours to look through and that was without doing many tastings. Most stalls offer tastings of food and drink produce and stalls with other products have samples to try before purchasing which is fantastic. I was blown away by the amount of artisan stalls with gins, whiskeys and vodka’s they all had unique stories about their products it was so interesting. There wasn’t repeated stalls which was great, so many unique little shops with lots of treasures. Salamanca Market also has every cuisine available so if you’re hungry when you leave it’s certainly not from choice as there is plenty. I highly recommend visiting this market it’s one of the best I’ve ever been to.

Busy market place with so many artisanal handmade handicrafts. Beautiful scarves, lavender tent, food and many more. Worthwhile going to this place. Well organized on the entry and exit point. Many things to choose from. Ample carpark space.

It rained but we still had a great time. Long talk with the Knot Lady, hat lady and others. Everyone is in a good mood despite the rain. We drank coffee, ate donuts, tried oysters and bought tea towels. Everything a holiday maker could want.

Great experience and atmosphere for a market. There was heaps of vendors selling many different items from honey to hats to blankets to different type of knick knacks. There was also a farmer's market area which sold different vegetables. There was heaps of different food available as well as fresh Tasmanian coffee. Would 100% recommend to visit!

Walking through was like an open-air market. We only had the hour to spare as the airport was next stop.. the stalls were exceptional loads of locally crafted. Food stalls and areas to sit to eat like the surrounding grassed areas with salamanca bean bags..comfy My favourite vendor here is pictured. The millinery. Spectacular.

How lovely market is it! There are lots of vendors and creators here! They sell some craft by handmade, decorations or special food. It’s worth to have a walk and enjoy the architecture along the street! I love it so much and definitely recommend! Even I visited there in a rainy day but still like its unique!

Great walk around, no markets as we were there during the week 😀 Botanica had the most succulent spicy chicken wings and also juicy fried chicken pieces - cold beer 🍺 😋 highly recommend 👌 and very reasonably priced

They say it's the largest market in Australia, I'm not so sure. I feel the Eumundi market on the Sunshine Coast is bigger. Great markets must do in Tasmania. People seem to come out from everywhere.

Glad to have visited Salamanca Market. It is a highlight of my Tasmania trip. Great food and souvenirs to purchase. Love the fresh oysters and barbecued scallop skewer.

This is really not my cup of tea normally but thought I would give it a go. I did like it and enjoyed the walk. I started at the second station at the top of the hill. Some of the locations were a little trick which added to the enjoyment of trying to find them. I thought there were some other sculptures they could have added and made it longer. All in all it was a bit of fun, my wife and I enjoyed the journey.

The signs were unclear! Just nice houses

Not enough signs nor sculptures. It’s very unclear where to start or finish so we just made the most of our walk by checking out the houses and the views of the water but as far as a sculpture trail goes even 1 star is too generous!

It's a little cryptic where to go or what the sculptures are. They're named with non-continuous numbers, which adds to a bit of confusion. Always lovely to have a walk, though!

A stunning walk through the gorgeous historic suburb of Battery Point. The signs could be a little clearer as we got a little lost a few times, however even getting lost in Battery Point is fun as every street is packed with gorgeous houses with stunning gardens.

Half scavenger hunt, half history lesson this trail is a great romp through a delightful historical neighborhood. The biggest delight is looking at the many periods homes and gardens while the various signposts explain the history of this section of Hobart.

Get a good day. Walk around with eyes wide open. Pretty cool self guided walk through the best village in the best island state. Docked a star due to toparie not quite grown enough in the cage!

Really loved it, the tour was fantastic as was our guide. The stories are quite sad, but I think everyone should go there at least once. My husband and I cannot recommend it anymore highly. If you are in Hobart please visit you will not be disappointed.

We did the guided tour with the amazing Catherine. She is a wealth of knowledge. I can't believe the stories she was sharing that was less than 200 years ago. So sad. It was worth going on this fabulous tour.... and some extra positive feedback....the public toilets are amazingly super clean in this venue. 👌

We saw this in a Tassie tourist brochure and decided to stop here on route to the brewery. Honestly, we didn't know what to expect and we didn't know much about the place. It was truly fascinating to walk through and see how female convicts were managed in days long ago. We spent about 1.5 hours here. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Hobart.

Unfortunately like many others, most of this site was demolished but they have done quite a good job of recreating and marking out areas where cells, yards etc used to be. There is plenty of interesting information to read and it is refreshing to finally hear the convict story from the female experience. The book shop also has some really good books from a female perspective. It's a fairly quick journey through. In case you are looking for yard 2, you won't find it as it was on the site of the day care centre next door.

Hauntingly beautiful place but please do yourself a favour and book the show. The insight and knowledge you'll get is far better than any self guided tour. The actress who plays the various roles is phenomenal

Great location, base of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, steps from Cascade Brewery, the Hobart rivulet trail, and it's a stop on the Red Decker bus tour (I'm a tourist stopping in Hobart). Did the tour. Highly recommend. Most of the tour is outside, unsheltered. It was raining (rare in Hobart, haha!) But they had large umbrellas to lend. There's also a small indoor exhibit to explore. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and kind. I spent about 2h here. 50m for the tour, and then the rest of the time on my own with the audio guide and reading didactics. Audio guide is included with the regular admission, and it's with your smartphone. Bring your headphones. The visit was very interesting to me. I think it's common knowledge that Australia has a modern history of being a place where convicts were sent by the British. I had a deep morning learning about the history of female convicts here. Previously a distillery (poorly designed for human occupation), this property became a corrections facility for ~7000 women over almost 30 years. It was incredibly overcrowded. Even children were multiple to a cradle. Even those who earned their way out were often repeatedly incarcerated, for various reasons. At a time when women were property, you were damned if you did or damned if you didn't. What hopelessness... But this historical site is so important still. Education is critical to prevent repetition. Acknowledgment is critical to repair and healing.

Fascinating history about female convicts in the early days of Tasmania. A lot of the original site has been lost to time but the architects have done a good job in restoring the site to help us reimagine what it would have looked like in the past. We went for the guided tour that was well worth it as she took us through the yards. Audio recordings are also available but can be a bit draggy to listen to.

Definitely make the time to visit this hidden, little known, misunderstood and lost historical location. Clarissa's performance in The Proud and Punished is remarkable, transporting you back in time and bringing reflection and unexpected emotions with it. The Convicts Women's Tour was expertly led by Catherine and leaves one with a desire for more 'real' history than was ever taught in our formal education system. 10 out of 10!

Not a lot to see here , but worth a visit to understand early Tasmania. Not a lot of parking & a small fee to have a look around. Helpful information staff on site & very modern, clean toilets.

A moving place. The on site interpretation is fantastic and our guide for the day-Hugh-did a magnificent job bringing the history of the place to life. I visited on a weekday and it was ironic and quite bitter sweet that there is now a daycare centre adjoining the wall of the Factory nursery. A must visit if you are in Hobart.

Parking available along the streets but limited. The rich history is very interesting but might be abit heavy for the little ones. The staff there were very helpful and friendly. We also join the tour about the convict ladies. Guide was good and informative.

An interesting insight into the sad and tragic lives of these women and children. You have the choice of self guided audio tour or for a bit extra cost, a personal tour guide. I would recommend doing this for context as otherwise the space seems very sparse and uninteresting.

Even though there is not much left of the internal buildings the tour guide made us imagine what it was like to be there for the women who were imprisoned here. The history of this place was so tragic and interesting I’m glad I visited. It is an important part of Australian history that needs to be told. My ticket also included the audio tour which was also informative

great cider with a lot of choice (hot spiced cider was eye-opening), tasty apple liquor, very great food. apple pie wasn't as good as advertised (great ice cream though!), but the rest of the food (esp. chicken fillet with potato) was otherworldly. best roasted potatoes in my life

The vibe of this place is like an old stable or barn which is linked to its history, the kitchen makes and serves fresh food so quickly and the bar staff are just as quick delivering cider paddles and tasting notes along the way. If I'm lucky l have a wedding at this place one day it's so beautiful. Must see and do in tassy, and it's so close to Hobart you can't find an excuse to miss it!!

Went early as no bookings left on Friday night. Surprisingly the cider was really nice. I thought it would be sweet but no -more like beer and great taste.that really surprised us. The meals were incredible the chef can really cook cos he puts the right ingredients together that actually go together- like apple and fennel and salmon and seaweed crumb. We really enjoyed every mouthful I’ve recommended my family to this place

We reserved a table here and was amazed at the property, decor & the apple museum. We enjoyed a tasting paddle each & our main menu choices did not disappoint, they were spectacular. Although we were expecting more from the hyped up apple pie, I must say. We’d definitely be back but choice a different dessert. The service was awesome too.

The food and cider here were insanely good. We came for lunch on a cold winter Sunday and were greeted with a lovely and warm room with great ambience and friendly staff. We ordered a variety of meals and not a single one disappointed (pate, beef cheek, pasta and pork belly). The cider paddles were also a great offering to sample all the options. Don’t miss the apple pie and ice cream!

This is a lovely drive from Hobart, a great place for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Willie Smith's is known for its apple cider, and you can try multiple with tasting paddles or buy a glass to enjoy. Most of the ciders are quite alcoholic, so bear that in mind when ordering. Saying that there are a number of lovely house made sodas with pink lady and rhubarb, blackcurrant and thyme amongst them. Worth a try for those who don't want to try the cider or even their non alcoholic version might be worth a go. The food menu is relatively extensive, with a number of specials on the board. Price wise it is not the cheapest, but with the atmosphere and rustic charm it is worth a go. When I've ordered a meal, the serving sizes seem to be pretty decent. I would highly recommend the prawn linguine, the roasted pumpkin for those vegetarians or a staple ham and cheese on sourdough. All have been delicious. Their cakes and apple pie are well portioned and reasonably priced. Although usually quite busy, they have indoor and outdoor seating as well as parking on site. When it's hot, there is only some relief from the sun. They also have a little shop, which has some Tasmanian products, willie smith's and also the Charles Oates distillery, some dried apple chips, jams, chutneys, tshirts amongst them. Good news is that Willie Smith's is also close to a few places nearby to buy locally grown cherries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Went early as no bookings left on Friday night. Surprisingly the cider was really nice. I thought it would be sweet but no -more like beer and great taste.that really surprised us. The meals were incredible the chef can really cook cos he puts the right ingredients together that actually go together- like apple and fennel and salmon and seaweed crumb. We really enjoyed every mouthful I’ve recommended my family to this place

We reserved a table here and was amazed at the property, decor & the apple museum. We enjoyed a tasting paddle each & our main menu choices did not disappoint, they were spectacular. Although we were expecting more from the hyped up apple pie, I must say. We’d definitely be back but choice a different dessert. The service was awesome too.

The food and cider here were insanely good. We came for lunch on a cold winter Sunday and were greeted with a lovely and warm room with great ambience and friendly staff. We ordered a variety of meals and not a single one disappointed (pate, beef cheek, pasta and pork belly). The cider paddles were also a great offering to sample all the options. Don’t miss the apple pie and ice cream!

This is a lovely drive from Hobart, a great place for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Willie Smith's is known for its apple cider, and you can try multiple with tasting paddles or buy a glass to enjoy. Most of the ciders are quite alcoholic, so bear that in mind when ordering. Saying that there are a number of lovely house made sodas with pink lady and rhubarb, blackcurrant and thyme amongst them. Worth a try for those who don't want to try the cider or even their non alcoholic version might be worth a go. The food menu is relatively extensive, with a number of specials on the board. Price wise it is not the cheapest, but with the atmosphere and rustic charm it is worth a go. When I've ordered a meal, the serving sizes seem to be pretty decent. I would highly recommend the prawn linguine, the roasted pumpkin for those vegetarians or a staple ham and cheese on sourdough. All have been delicious. Their cakes and apple pie are well portioned and reasonably priced. Although usually quite busy, they have indoor and outdoor seating as well as parking on site. When it's hot, there is only some relief from the sun. They also have a little shop, which has some Tasmanian products, willie smith's and also the Charles Oates distillery, some dried apple chips, jams, chutneys, tshirts amongst them. Good news is that Willie Smith's is also close to a few places nearby to buy locally grown cherries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

This historical site is well worth visiting when you are in the Port Arthur area. Short easy walk to the main settlement mine site. Walk among the various buildings and experience the small convict cells, which are easily accessible. Do not overlook this site in your travels as it is very interesting and well worth the short drive from Port Arthur.

Great place historical old ruins fair walks to do. On beach. Information signs as you walk around📸👍

Well worth the visit if you're interested in convict history and ruins. The view to the coast is also spectacular. The solitary cells here are still intact and quite spooky. Watch your head when you enter and exit, mischievous spirits may just give you a push! Lots of walks you can do in the area which are longer.

Great spot to explore while walking a great trail. Suggest walk times include allowance for exploring the site, don't be put off by walk times

Worth a visit. To see the conditions the miners lived in shows how tough life was. Interesting drive and very informative.. Few good walks. Plenty of ants so do not stop or .....

Great historic site. Information was great, lots of really informative information boards. They must have been updated since some of the previous reviews. Car parking is good unless you have a caravan? We visited with our 3 girls, 3, 6&8. Just visited the main site not the other sites that you need to walk to. Could spend half a day in the area looking and reading and taking it in!

Absolutely stunning. I love the old stone buildings. Great piece of history and the information provided throughout the walk was very helpful.

This is a self guided site. It is a good idea to take a photo of the site map before your walk. I'm glad we did - it guided us through all the individual areas. Located in a stunning area, it is hard to believe its' horrible history. But history it has, and I was honoured to be able to view it for myself. The site is free to enter. There are wheelchair accessible toilets in the main carpark. You will need to take your own food and water/ drinks as there aren't any for sale onsite. It is the perfect place for a picnic. Coal Mines Historic site is located on the Tasman Peninsula and the roads are all sealed coming in from Dunalley.

Definitely worth the visit if you're near the area! Lots of walks to do here. We came on Christmas day and basically had the place to ourselves. The view along the coastline is absolutely gorgeous. There are some insects flying around though so I'd recommend bringing insect repellent. We also saw a wild echidna along the way.

Educational and interesting attraction that is free of charge. Well presented and full of informative signs to help visitors understand the significance of the site and various artefacts left behind at this coal mine where prisoners sent to Australia had to work back in the 1830s. Definitely worth a visit for all tourists near Port Arthur.

This is an amazing spot that should definitely be on your stop list! It's got incredible history, views and walks! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because we didn't know about it, we stumbled across it because our guide at Port Arthur said to check it out! Better advertising would've meant we knew about this and could've given it the time it deserves. There are many walks around it that sound amazing and that we plan on coming back to do one day! Highly recommend, loved our experience!
