Step 2 : Answer to the question "Who named the Pacific Ocean?"
Ferdinand Magellan - When Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan set out to find a western route to the Spice Islands, a great wide ocean spread out before him. In 1520, Magellan and his crew entered unto unfamiliar territory, which he called “pacific,” due to its calm and peaceful waters. The seas he’d navigated prior — known as the Straits of Magellan — were a lot rougher and rockier, so the comparatively tranquil body of water must have been a welcome change for the famous explorer. Magellan was, in fact, a bit lost when entering the earth’s largest ocean at 59 million square miles, as he assumed the crew was on the path to the Spice Islands via South America, though the islands were actually thousands of miles on the other side of the Earth.
