10 Shocking Facts You Didn’t Know about Molly Ringwald
We all know and love her most from her roles in “Pretty in Pink,” and “Sixteen Candles,” but Molly Ringwald has done so much more in her life than just living it up as a teen star. She’s one of the many women in Hollywood that worked and became quite famous as a young woman – a teen – and managed to keep her career relevant and successful. She’s been starring in hit television shows and movies for decades, including the very popular show The Secret Life of the American Teenager. She’s someone many young actresses look up to as an inspiration. But that doesn’t mean that we know everything about her. She turned 47-years-old earlier this year and yet we still don’t know all there is to know about Molly Ringwald. So we thought we’d dig up some fun and shocking facts about our favorite woman who is still pretty in pink.
She’s One of Four
Ringwald is certainly not an only child. She has a brother and a sister, but she also has an older brother that passed away long before she was born. It’s unknown what he died from, whether he was ill, natural causes or if he was involved in any sort of accident. There are no words to describe the difficulty her parents likely faced with the loss of a child, even now so many decades later. And though she didn’t know her brother, she grew up with him very much a part of her family.
She had a Part in the Facts of Life
When the hit television show was first introduced, Ringwald had a part as one of the girls at the school. However, the popularity of the show resulted in a huge overhaul of the cast when the second season began and she was removed from the cast and replaced by another actress – Nancy McKeon, who played the very popular character Jo.
She is Against a “Sixteen Candles” Remake
She’s been asked several times if she would consider a remake of the hit movie that made her famous, and she is not going for it. She has said on numerous occasions that it is a disservice to create a remake of a classic, and she will not consent to be part of a remake of one of her classic hit movies. We have to admit that we definitely love that about her.
She Turned Down a Famous Role or Two
There has been rumors for years that Ringwald was the go-to actress and first choice for two of the early 90s biggest movies. She was allegedly asked to star in “Pretty Woman” and “Ghost” both of which are classic films that made a lot of money and created ample fame for two of the most successful and most famous actresses of all time; Julia Roberts and Demi Moore. I wonder if she regrets her choice to turn down roles like that considering what they did for the careers of these two women?
She was Aware of her Fame
Many teen actors and actresses are so happy to be wealthy and famous and all that comes along with those two things that they don’t make amazing choices. Ringwald was not one of them. She’s stated that she was very aware of her ample fame and the fact that many young women looked up to her when she was a teenager. She said she did her best to maintain a proper and appropriate lifestyle so that these girls would have something to look up to, and we think that it worked out quite nicely for her. She’s managed to keep herself out of the press for much of her life, and that’s a pretty big feat in Hollywood.
She’s Fluent in French
Ringwald was educated at a French academy growing up and she is fluent in the language. In fact, she moved to France in the 90s and actually starred in several French films and then went on to marry a French man in the late 90s. She divorced him only three years after they were married and remarried a Greek man a few years after that.
She’s a Mother
One of her most important roles in life – the most important role in her life, in fact – is that of mom. She is the mother of a little girl who was born in 2003 and twins that were born in 2009. She spends as much time with her kids as she possibly can since that is what she considers most important in her life. She’s someone who definitely makes motherhood look easy, and she seems to thoroughly enjoy the fact that she is a mother.
She didn’t want to Dance Alone in “The Breakfast Club”
Did you know that in the famous scene where everyone is dancing, Molly Ringwald was supposed to dance alone? She was so unsure of her skills and her abilities to dance that the director was kind enough to make everyone get up and dance with her, and that made her feel much better about her role.

Molly Ringwald has a net worth around $11 million. She’s been working since she was a child, has a book and several other business ventures, and she’s managed to maintain her wealth and her success throughout her life. She’s not known for being extravagant in any way, but she does life a comfortable life with her little family of five – with her three kids and her husband.
She didn’t think her TIME Magazine Cover was a Big Deal
She once had a conversation with Warren Beatty, who told her that it takes at least five years to get over the excitement and honor of being on the cover of TIME magazine, but being just a teen at the time, she didn’t get it. In fact, she didn’t even care at all about being on the cover of that magazine. She said she’d rather have been on the cover of Seventeen at the time.
