TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Today was sunny for the first half of the day, but clouds built after the lunch hour before showers and storms drifted westward across our area for the late afternoon through the evening hours. Most of the showers will fade around sunset, the later lingering isolated showers will fade just after 10 p.m.

Expect clearing skies overnight and temperatures sinking down into the comfortable mid 70s. winds will be light, out of the east, around 5 mph.

Wednesday begins in the lovely mid 70s but warms quickly under partly sunny skies. We have great chances for showers during the afternoon and evening hours. Expect afternoon high temperatures around 90° and widespread chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Wednesday night may be wet at times, but the showers should taper off after midnight for the most part. A few clouds will stick around overnight and temperatures will sink down into the mid 70s.

Hurricane Nicholas made landfall in Texas early Tuesday morning, but the main impacts from the storm will be flooding rain over the next few days as the system slowly heads through Houston and into Louisiana. Widespread 3-7 inches of rain will fall with some areas getting 10 inches.

Elsewhere in the tropics, a tropical wave near the Bahamas should stay off the U.S. east coast, and a strong wave coming off Africa is likely to develop and head into the central Atlantic. We will watch both to see when they form and where they’re headed.
