Hotel De Anza receives mixed feedback from its guests. While the cleanliness and prime location near downtown attractions are consistently lauded, some travelers express disappointment with the value, citing overcharges and unmet service expectations. The rooms are clean and updated yet sometimes fall short in maintenance and advertised quality. Guests appreciate the staff's friendliness but have encountered issues with communication and additional charges. The hotel's atmosphere is a blend of modern charm and dated elements, with an inconsistent offering of live music.

We arrived on Wednesday afternoon in a rental car. Approaching the hotel we did not see any signage directing us to a registration entrance. We saw parking on Norte Dame street but some spaces were blocked by traffic cones. So we parked on the street in city parking. The door was locked so we had to ring the door bell. The staff responded and let us enter into lobby. A little awkward and unusual. When checking in we were told restaurants and bar were closed. Parking was three blocks away in a city garage since no valet parking was available. There also would be a $60 charge to use facilities we didn’t need or use.
The staff were very pleasant and did their best given circumstances. But since this was June, I believe the exit from COVID restrictions should have been more aggressive.
The room was good, but I did not like the quality of the bed, too firm for my tastes. Housekeeping services were by request so for our four day stay we asked them to service our room once. We loved the location and the proximity to downtown but as a Hyatt property we believe the standards were not in place for dealing with the guests in the emerging COVID environment.

Hotel De Anza is located in downtown San Jose about a 10-minute drive from the airport, SJC. The downtown location makes it close to sights, restaurants, and bars and the convention centre. The hotel is a beautifully preserved art deco building with the original neonlights on the rooftop. At the lobby level is reception, and the restaurant as well as the jazz lounge, and below is the fitness centre and meeting rooms. The fitness centre is a good mix of machines and weights with enough space for training. The rooms are the original style from the 1930s when the hotel was built and preserving the art deco style but with modern amenities and upgraded bathrooms. Overall, it is a nice historic property at the heart of San Jose, and if you want character, it is definitely the place. The only flaw is abomination of 'destination' fees and again for something that you either don't want or that should be included, and here it is coffee in the room, use of the fitness centre and WiFi.

Hotel De Anza is located in a fairly good location for access to downtown San Jose, and the SAP centre is a few minutes walk away.

When they described it as "Art Deco" they weren't kidding, the building has a certain sense of style and there are prints died throughout the building.

My only complaint is that the location leads to a lot of traffic noise which made sleeping difficult for me, but your mileage may vary.

I had no internet in my room, apparently the signal doesn’t reach everywhere, so if u on a work trip, don’t take the chance of having a room that internet doesn’t reach. I wasted my time, bc I could not work n the even worst part of it, management could care less. They have IT at a call center and didbt care to try to help troubleshoot in any way. It’s as if they have heard this complaint a million times already so they have become insensitive to complaints about it.
Moving on, the housecleaning, well it was hard to notice what she did besides supply new towels n open trash. I had pulled the covers up when I got out of bed, n she ignored it, didn’t tuck in the sheets or fix it in any way..
I’m starting to think the problem is that they pay their staff really low, bc there were so many other issues, that I don’t want to waste my time writing anything more. But I will mention, there is only 37 per day for Valet parking and there is no street parking at all for blocks and blocks. There is a garage parking that’s just about the same amount of money and that’s four blocks down. Another negative.
I travel for a living and this has got to be the top 5 of my most hated hotels that I’ve stayed at.
Oh, n manager is just as rude, they probably do not pay her Enough and she probably gets tired of fielding all the complaints each day.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. When I arrived and had to wait less than 5 minutes to check in, they staff gave me two bottles of orange juice for my children and apologized. No apology was necessary, someone was ahead of me in line. I paid for parking by the entrance (there are only a few spots that are valet on the weekend and self parking on weekdays, otherwise you pay for parking at the structure up the street, it is $25 either way). When we returned to the hotel around 9pm, all of the spots were full. I parked at a meter planning to move my car before 9am. A staff member was waiting for us at the door. She approached ME, and made sure I had paid for parking. She said she had been waiting for me and had saved a parking spot for me. She informed me that there was a street sweeper at 3am and told me I really needed to move my car now to the spot she had SAVED FOR ME. I still have no idea how she knew I was the last person who had paid for parking.

The lobby is lovely. The room was clean and smelled fresh. The bathroom was beautiful. I upgraded to the 2 queen room, and loved the floor space, totally worth it. I traveled with 2 kids, ages 7 and 9. This hotel is not a "kid friendly" hotel, meaning there was nothing specifically oriented towards kids, yet the kids were welcomed and treated nicely. The larger room was perfect for them to spread out.

For some people, it might be inconsequential, but I loved the shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, bar soap, make-up remover, cotton pads, q-tips, nail file, hand sanitizer, shower cap, coffee pods, and bottled water for the coffee maker... All were quality, and several of those items came in handy. Those are the details that make a hotel stay exceptional.

The stay is not worth the price, dirty entry and Elevators. No coffee machine in the room, $7.00 for a bottle of water and they have the nerve to call it a "Destination Hotel" with an extra charge for it. NEVER AGAIN!

Our initial “premium” room was so disappointing, small, dark and depressing upon check in that we actually called down to pay to upgrade to a junior suite, which we knew was available from checking first online. Front desk clerk who answered told us they had no suites available. We told them that we were looking at the availability online and it said they do have a jr. suite available. Another person then got on the phone and confirmed they did have a jr suite, told us the price difference and brought new room keys for the suite to us in our initial room. We grabbed our bags and moved ourselves.
What we were met with was a room only slightly bigger than the room we were just in. Nothing about this room made it a “suite.” There was no sitting area, no larger bathroom… nothing that would deem it anything other than a normal room. But, we figured at least it wasn’t dark and it was a little less claustrophobic, so we stayed.

The air conditioning in our room no kidding sounded like a DeWalt air compressor tank (if you don’t get the reference, think: startlingly loud) that woke us up every time it kicked on. The poor design and installation of the shower doors completely flooded the bathroom floor every time we took a shower. The phone didn’t work in the room, which was especially annoying since we ordered door dash both mornings of our stay so we could have something to eat and the front desk would attempt to call up to our room to confirm the dasher was permitted to bring the food to our door— except, ya know, the phone didn’t work, so they couldn’t get thru. Meaning my husband or I had to go down to the front desk to get it ourselves. Speaking of food: we were only ordering door dash for breakfast because the hotel had no room service of any kind available, and their restaurant was closed. The only food available on premises was 5-10 snack and drink items offered at the front desk (think a couple of cans of soda and Oreos).

I wish we would have stayed at a competitor’s hotel.

Feel like we got a motel experience at a “distinction hotel” price.

For $259 a night you would think the beds would not be as hard a rock and everything would be in working order in the rooms. There is no parking besides Valet for $40 a night which is not advertised. The restaurant that is advertised online wasn’t open and all they offered was vending machine snacks at the front desk. If you’re going to charge that much for a room, you should have better amenities and less broken items in the rooms.

First off we were able to checkin early 9am with no extra charge since there was a room available. Front staff was great. I do want to say there is nothing open for breakfast around the area walking distance until after 8am and only found a place called whispers which I highly recommend.

Had no issue with our room it was a little noisy but I had a weird dream that the place was haunted and I got pulled under the sheets in my dream. Then we heard a knock at our door and no one was there. Not sure on the history of this hotel but never experienced something like this before.

I would not stay hear again just because of my experience.

I liked this hotel in the past as I have stayed a few times. Today I needed to cancel a reservation and I've never received a bigger run-around trying to cancel a room.

The first lady was nice, explained she could not cancel the reservation but would transfer me to the reservations line. She did and it disconnected. I called back and she connected me to the reservations number again, this time it went through.

The recording stated they were too busy at the moment to accept my call but I could go to the Hilton site and use a chatbot to address my issue. I don't use chat because one person works with ten customers at a time and it takes ten times as long to complete a task.

I called back, the next lady could not understand English. I explained my last name, the date, and the reservation number three or four times and she said I did not have a reservation. I asked if she could guaranty I would not be charged, and she started over again asking me for my information.

I called back and asked for the manager who canceled my reservation in a minute.

I know it's hard to get good help today; however, if they do not speak English, do not allow them to answer the phones and piss off your customers. Additionally, it might sound like a good idea to hand off customers to a Hilton reservation line, but it's not if you want repeat customers to book a room at your hotel again.

Hello, We do not sell tickets to attractions at the Hotel, but we can certainly help you book tours and purchase tickets. There are a number of places to visit that are downtown, the ones a little further away would require transportation, taxi or rental. Again, we are very happy to help make the arrangements.
