Q:
Hello! Does anyone know how accommodating they are with early check-in requests? TIA!
A:
They are pretty good unless they were fully booked the night before. Usually noon is the earliest. Anything earlier you would be charged.

This was the best place for outdoor happy hour around downtown. I tried going recently and found that the entire hotel has closed. Very sad! They had the best pizzas. Hope they're able to reopen.

Based on our good experience the first time, we reserved a room for several days with a "private terrace" this past summer. The room was cramped, rife with beat-up furniture, walls and indoor railings (there are apparently several different terrace suites ... ours was disappointing and there weren't any others available). The outdoor terrace was below a public patio and behind the "private" terrace was a public walkway. No privacy, and the outdoor furniture was beat up as well.
Management were kind enough to let us check out same day without any penalty.3/25/2016Previous reviewOpened in 2005 and hasn't been updated since then ... but doesn't need it, as they used modern classic materials and finishes. Beautifully decorated lobby and rooms.
We had a 4th floor end room, facing the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge ... stunning views. Only real downsides are the small bathroom with only with sink, no glass shower door and the toilet is at an angle and away from the edge of the wall (weird), and the bouncy bed (although neither of us woke with a sore back). Nice pillows and linens. Surprisingly quiet other than the metal wheel and track noises of the vintage street cars.
Staff was very friendly.
We'll be back.Read more

Hotel Vitale is one of the few hotels in San Francisco that combines old culture and amazing views with the modern building structure and guest service. I had a business meeting here a few weeks ago and had such a pleasant experience the minute I walked into the lobby. There's free wifi in the lobby with extremely comfortable chairs and we were able to have our meeting with ease. Definitely check out the restaurant on the first floor, the food is amazing.
Pro Tip: check out the rooftop patio, you won't regret it. - Jessic H.Orlando, FL01933/8/2020
Super cute lobby and hotel rooms, I've stayed here 3x before but this trip wasn't a good experience.
My hotel room smelled of sewage from the moment i checked in. After calling down a few times to hopefully get my room switched or a repair man up the desk staff said the best she could do was send up an air freshener.
I told the staff that the bathroom was unusable do you the oder and that the smell was spilling over into the main room. She told me there was absolutely no sewer issue and the air freshener was the best she could do.
Instead of masking the smell the spray air freshener was simply mixed with the existing smell and didn't help one bit. No one ever came up to the room to check or see for them selves the terrible Oder.
I'm sad to say i won't be staying here again do you the poor service resolving a quite nasty issue. - 114945245210/6/2019
very nice hotel. 4 star ranking is a result of getting an upgrade to a corner tub suite. we've stayed in the smaller closet size rooms, so we have basis for comparison. service is hit or miss. not that service has ever been horrible, but, at the price point, our expectations should be exceeded. Americano Bar is here and has a great happy hour vibe. location is close to many other dining and drinking establishment. we walked to Chinatown from here and got some dim sum too.
overall, nice hotel, but, quite pricey. - 282061688/1/2019
Pleasantly surprised by this hotel, my expectations were that it was going to be adequate but the rooms are actually very nice for the price (in the city that is), and there are some nice terraces in which to hang out if you want. Beds are comfy and the shower is like a blast from something they'd use to wash elephants at the zoo, powerful good.
Relatively quiet rooms too considering some are right on a busy street. The other thing that is not a trivial matter even though it may seem like it is the elevator is really fast, I was here for a conference and there was very little waiting for an elevator unlike some of the other old ass hotels in the city where you wait 5 years for an elevator. - MB B.Sparks, NV125131/27/2020
Amazing hotel ... great views ... great employees ...
This hotel is close to everything ... across the street from the ferry building ... enjoy the restaurants, stores, muni, coffee shops, farmers market (weekends!)
They have complementary coffee/tea every morning.
Rooms are clean ... hallways have a calming lavender smell ... beds are comfortable ... every room offer an umbrella in case is rainy in the city... a fabulous view of the bay bridge/ the bay and the city, the ferry building from the balconies (floors 5-7) ... sigh !! make sure to take your camera to capture the beauty of San Francisco ...take it all in and get ready for a fun day of walking, learning, eating, sighting and enjoying ... have fun ! - Paul E.Houston, TX811744718/27/2019
Our stay was overall okay and could have been way better. The problem arises when the hotel was advertised and booked on the understanding that it would be a "5 star resort." Very misleading and false advertising as there was nothing about it that was a "resort" and a 3 star hotel at best. The hotel charges a mandatory $35 resort fee but fails to deliver any expected services with competence.
The rooms were average at best and didn't even have a coffee maker available in the room. You had to go down to the lobby to just get a cup of coffee. How is that resort style? The TVs are old and often malfunctioned with the cable services not working. Any modern hotel has TVs equipped with Netflix and HBONow options, sadly to say this "resort" hotel did not have that option. We weren't in town to watch TV but it would have been nice to put on while getting ready but instead we were left to watching a horrible channel selection filled with commercials galore.
There is no pool or hot tub available and if you wanted to take a dip they will give you a pass to the local YMCA which is 2 blocks away. Again, how is this place a resort? The one service I thought, "Okay here's a resort feature" was a fail. They offer "complementary" shoe shining, which I took them up on since we were having a photo shoot during our stay. Suffice to say, the shoes were to be delivered the next day at 8 AM...they arrived at 9 AM after repeated unanswered, calls to the front desk and me ending up going to the front desk to inquire about my shoes. Again, a resort? I think not. I will not be staying here again. - 23125903/26/2018
Hotel Vitale is a solid four stars. Great location across from the Ferry building (very quiet location during the weekends), competent and gracious staff, comfy restaurant and great size balconies with the terrace suite. I have to agree with another helper, the rooms need some TLC - and with a little upgrading (tile in bathroom, wood floor finishing, and etc) hotel Vitale could be perfect.
The terrace suite has a very large outdoor space with great views. See photos. - Gabriel J.Santa Clara, CA01188/17/2019
One of the finest hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in. As another reviewer mentioned, it's not too spectacular from the outside (although most places in san Francisco are not). The inside is simple, but nice. Its clean and modern.
We didn't require too much for a one night stay but everyone was very helpful. The front desk was gracious enough to offer an early check in before our spa appointment. And, the valet attendants still treated us like royalty when we rolled up in our 2017 Honda Odyssey (surrounded by very high end cars)... what can I say we're just a modest family from Sacramento looking for a good time
What I loved most about the hotel is that it was QUIET. We arrived on a Saturday which was probably a good move as we avoided the weekday bar crowd. Each floor is dimly lit, which I think helps to keep the noise level down. And, despite its location on a busy street our hotel room was nice and serene. Which mattered ALOT since it was our very special weekend with no kids !
Which reminds me... A bottle of sparkling water and a card were sent up to contragulate us our pregnancy. Nice touch.
I think the price is about right especially for SF where you can't order a burger without paying an extra tax for someone's health insurance. And for that reason we probably won't spend too many vacations there. BUT if we do, we know we have a home at Hotel Vitale. - Mary C.San Jose, CA38111/22/2020
We usually stay with Hotel Vitale when we stay in SF. On New Years Eve the hotel cancelled our reservation. Supposedly they tried to run my card before our check in and had issues with it. Instead of calling me they sent an email with a few hours to respond. Missing the short window of tIme they cancelled us. I was not expecting to pay in full untill check out so wasn't monitoring email on NYE. I attempted to rebook ( rooms were now double for what I had reserved) however they were sold out. Guess they didn't want to try too hard to keep my reservation by picking up the phone to call me given they were charging a premium on NYE. Won't be returning to the hotel given this poor experience.

I heard so much about this place and was really looking forward to staying here. My son made me reservations. That was the first issue. The guy that was supposed to do the reservations and place a bowl of fruit in room did neither. So we had to get set up when we got there. The room waz suppose to face the water, instead it faced th city. This would not have been such a big deal accept that the room waz really noisy. You could hear EVERYTHING. The second night we were moved to a "nicer" room. The view was fabulous. The couch had actual stains and what I think was food as well as the dresser top was filthy. When I called down to the desk for a coffee pot, two extra towels and an extra shampoo. That was apparently "some lady keeps asking for some crazy extra things" because right after she spoke to me, my son spoke to someone from the front desk and she was complaining about my resquests. What the heck? She did not realize that whoshe was complaining about was the mother of a co-worker. And what is worse is I had to call back to follow up because the items were took forever to and seemed like they had forgotten about the request. The complimentary water in the lobby had ice but no water. When I walked up to enjoy the rooftop there was trash left from the night before which mirrored the food plates that were left in the hallways for hours on end. The hotel restaurant menu in the room claimed the restaurant to be open till 11pm and yet when I went down to order something at 10:25pm I was told that it was closed. The one thing I wish I could give 5 stars to would the valets. They are gentlemen to be sure! They treat everyone like royalty!

Great hotel in San Francisco. A little pricey but it's close to the Ferry Building, BART, Muni, Street Cars & across the street from the water. Partial Bay View Room 3rd floor, had a great view of the Bay Bridge "must see at night". Room looked clean, large mirrors, fully stocked (unused) mini bar. employees (front desk, guys opening the door & guys taking your luggage to your room are great and classy! Other guests were cool too. Homeless people in the park & in front of the Ferry Building don't/shouldn't bother you. PASS on the Americano restaurant. Minus 1 Star due to the LOUD Obnoxious preppy, business, techie, millennials yappin' in the restaurants outside patio underneath my closed window.

Horrible experience. We booked for NYE thru AMEX travel and were told no rooms available upon check in 1 hour b4 midnight. They then sent us ro another hotel which was a 150 sq foot room for 3 of us. We took our car and drove back home. What was supposed to be a family vacation ruined by this hotel. We asked for the manager and the front desk idiot (George S - Asian guy) said he was the manager - refused to call the real manager whom
we saw several times through the night out front with other guests. Needless to say - this hotel and the group is off our list forever and we will make sure it is off AMEX's hotel list. What a horrible set of ppl and makes us feel even more that labor in SF is so hard to come by that we get such bad customer service. - Charlie B.CA, CA1047121033710/30/2018
Great location on the Embarcadero with stunning views of the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge.
I was there on a Sunday morning so the parking was free and easy.
I attended an INSEAD MBA Programme brunch and the space, food, staff and amenities were sweet!
I am more likely now to look at this hotel for a staycation ;) - 1101183112/21/2019
I'll give this hotel a solid 5 stars. The view of the bay bridge was beautiful. The service was top notch and the staff was friendly. If you are looking for a hotel with a nice view in San Francisco, try booking their deluxe suite and I promise, you will not regret it.

I came here for a quick weekend trip during Halloween weekend. One of the reasons why I picked this hotel was because it was close to the Ferry Building (across the street). When I checked in on Friday, the front person was very pleasant and gave me the room pretty quickly. I got a room on the 3rd floor. If you can, I would definitely suggest getting a view. Since I was only there for the weekend, I didn't really care, but it was sort of depressing to see a brick wall as my view every day (I kept my curtain shut most of the time). One thing I enjoyed about this hotel was how everything smelled so nice, the lobby smelled nice, the rooms smelled nice. However, my stay had here also had a few hiccups.
I came during World Series weekend and when the game went to extra innings, I didn't want to stay out too late, so I raced back to the hotel room. When I turned the TV on, it wasn't working! Any sports fan know how frustrating that can be when you are trying to watch a game and all of a sudden the TV does not work. In a panic, I called downstairs, the front person provided no solution. I had to provide a few options to him, including watching the game at the bar (the bar was closed by this time). After hanging up with the person quite frustrated, I realized the only solution was changing room (which again I was the one that had to suggest this). I called downstairs, and to be fair, he was very nice about letting me change rooms, but that is when the TV started working again. I know that seems minor, but to me this game was very important and I was sort of frustrated that person did not provide any suggestions. In addition, one of the other issues that I ran into was that when I called down for a few items, they either never brought anything or they just didn't bring it. On the first night, I asked for extra towels, blanket, and some shampoo. They came up with no extra towels. The second night I asked for a few cups and they never came by. After about 30 minutes, I called downstairs and asked if I could come downstairs instead to pick it up. Also, the person never actually came by with the cups, so I think they might have just forgotten about it.
I think with all the hotels in SF, I might try to stay at another hotel next time. I am giving this place 2 stars, for the location and for the cleanliness/smell of the hotel. - 12975803577/7/2019
We had a great weekend stay here recently. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Location is particularly amazing for exploring the Embarcadero/Ferry Building area. Our room with 2 Queen Beds was comfortable and very clean. Only thing I wished this hotel had was a swimming pool. Not much else to complain about. If we visit SF again soon for another staycation, Vitale will definitely be on our short list!

Great hotel! It's clean, customer service is great and location of the hotel is right next to the wharf. Loved staying here for a night. It was a quick trip but enjoyable. Definitely recommend coming here.
- Gary A.Sacramento, CA03427/8/2019
We visited Hotel Vitale many years ago and really enjoyed our stay. The location across from the Ferry Building can't be beat and if you get an outside room the views are spectacular.
We came back seven years later and the views are still great, but not much else remained positive. Given the price, you would think they could afford to keep up their rooms. But they are dated and worn out. Our Oceanview window was unwashed and had a large bird dropping on it. The service was slow and unhelpful especially the valet which is pricey even for San Francisco.
Very disappointing stay after a good first visit.
Hotel Vitale...reinvest and take care of your property. Otherwise rebrand it a Holiday Inn.
