We stayed in the moderate room (July 31-Aug 2); I believe it was room 215 or 214. The room may not have the amazing view, but the price was reasonable, and the room didn't disappoint. It's a great choice if you are on a budget and will not be spending all day in the room. I was iffy about the room when I booked it with Michael, who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The room was immaculate, the fireplace and decor were endearing. I was nervous about the room being so close to the lobby, however it was not an issue at all. I didn't hear a lot of noise as I thought i would with it being that close. The customer service was exceptional, I never once felt like my needs were not met. The response to any request was immediate. The hotel's location was perfect it didn't have all the crowds as other local hotels do right when you walk outside the doors. Everything you need or want was all within walking distance. The continental breakfast was amazing and just the best thing to start the day off right. The hotel had a certain charm about it. I would have to say the cleanliness is beyond measure. I would definitely be staying there again.…
We showed up a day early, the front desk clerk, Asia, immediately took it upon herself to help us find a place to stay. When our room was ready (early) the next day, we received a call, but we were busy exploring the island. When we finally came back to the hotel (around 6), our bags were in the room waiting, a few minutes later a beautiful charcuterie plate and bubbles were delivered. The location of the hotel and the fact we had the best view (balcony overlooking the water and people) were perfect! We will be back!
For a lot of places, the photos on the website are always better than the reality, however this was not the case for Hotel Metropole! I was blown away by how lovely everything was, from the cleanliness of the room to the quality of the decor. It really helped me to relax and recharge. I felt so special staying here. I had an ocean superior room that did have a view of the ocean that was beautiful at sunset, although yes, if you're on the balcony, you do get a good view of the rooftops around you too. I could see all the way to the LA mountains. The location on the foreshore is great and is an easy walk from the ferry terminal with a large suitcase, however note that the entrance to the hotel is on Whittley Ave, not Metropole Ave. We took advantage of their winter, mid-week special so for us it was very affordable. A basic breakfast was provided, "grab and go" style in their foyer, that was appreciated and got you going for the day's activities. I also got a discount at the day spa located in the Metropole Marketplace. You won't be disappointed with your stay here.…
The only positive at this hotel was the person that checked us in and the view. We had an oceanfront suite. After a long day, we went back to the room where we decided to have a glass of champagne they said would be in the room. It wasn't there. We called the front desk and asked if it was coming and requested 2 additional wine glasses. He couldn't give us a time any of it would be delivered even though it was already 7pm. When the $4.99 bottle of champagne did arrive, we opted to skip it and just drink the decent wine we had brought on the patio to enjoy the sunset. One problem. The patio furniture is metal with no cushions. It could not be any less comfortable. When we went to pull out the sleeper sofa for our kids to go to bed, it was broken! My husband had to jimmy rig it just to make it work. The extra blanket in the closet smelled like must and had a cigarette burn. There was a portable air conditioner in the sliding glass door. The vent was placed in a fixed makeshift piece of wood that wouldn't allow us to lock the door. The room next door could have easily jumped over and walked right in. At that point, out of curiosity I looked at the reviews and saw that someone else had posted about the same sleeper sofa issue! Even though the manager responds to the reviews, they never bothered to fix the problem! For these rates, you are better off renting a condo at Hamilton Cove or staying at the newly remodeled Atwater. We didn't even bother complaining because the hotel was booked. We did not expect a 5 star hotel, but we did expect cleanliness and properly functioning beds, doors, air conditioning, etc. for the rate we paid.…
This was my & my husband's first time to Catalina, so I purchased him a hotel room & helicopter return flight combo for his birthday. Right off the bat Asia, who assisted us with the booking, was incredibly personable and helpful in assisting us with upgrades, answering our Qs, communicating with the helo company, and providing vouchers for our transpo from the helipad to the hotel. Since the room wasn't ready when we landed, we were still able to check our bag with concierge as we explored. We received a phone call when our hotel room was ready, and we were even met with a complimentary bottle of champagne that evening. The hotel itself is truly one of the nicer ones I found while doing my research in terms of bang for buck. We stayed in an Ocean View room and it was spacious, clean, with a beautiful view. We took advantage of the rooftop hot tub and the site is VERY walkable, with the marketplace right next door and the location being very central. We cannot wait to visit again - thank you Asia for making our first time stay such a memorable one!…
First time traveler to Avalon so did not have expectations. This hotel is in a nice little shopping plaza with little boutiques and restaurants and coffee shops. It resembles a European/Mediterranean place. The streets are cobblestone giving it a very charming vibe. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful and the room we had was very comfy with a great view overlooking the harbor(which is spectacular). COVID has changed their services of course but in spite of that we had a wonderful stay there. Nice balcony to sip coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. We are already planning our next trip here.
I have nothing good to say about this hotel. We paid $500 a night for an average room overlooking the courtyard. From reviewing the website, we were expecting to have drinks and dinner in the M lounge. However, the M lounge was closed and the hotel had no alternative bar, restaurant and no breakfast room. At breakfast we were expected to pick up our breakfast and take it to our room to eat. Shame on you Hotel Metropole.
This hotel is great! We loved the look, the comfort, the cleanliness, the brightness, the wonderful staff that was so accommodating - everything here is good. It's close to everything you could want or need - a spa and a salon, a laundromat, great restaurants and snack shops, souvenir shops, etc. Our room had a fireplace which was a lovely touch. It would be very nice to have a small refrigerator in the room but again, they helped us out by refrigerating our doggie bag. We were stranded on the island due to stormy weather and they displayed constant concern for our situation. A continental breakfast is provided which is both good and sufficient. Highly recommend the Hotel Metropole!
We stayed here on a previous visit to Catalina several years ago, so we tried it again. It's conveniently located at the far end of the waterfront strip of hotels and restaurants, within easy walking distance of everything in Avalon. We were a little disappointed that this time the place seemed a bit dated, with signs of deferred maintenance (like wallpaper beginning to peel in places and bathroom fans that clattered). But the staff were very nice, the bed was comfortable, and the price was reasonable. Note for disabled visitors: The hotel''s one accessible room is a bit noisy, located directly off the main entrance and loading area, and with some kind of mechanical sound going on much of the time.
I stayed at Hotel Metropole for the first time for a birthday trip. Upon booking I stressed how we needed a room with a view and preferably a balcony. The booking rep assured me I would have that and that I would also get a fire place and best view since I was celebrating. We got Room #301 which in my opinion is the best. You got a view of the ocean, it was one of the last rooms (which added privacy) and the balcony was situated over the court yard and shopping area as well as the main street so you got to take in the people and the vibe of the island. You get to check your bags before check in and after check out which was a plus! They have a roof top jacuzzi overlooking the city and water. Although small in size, it was definitely a added plus! The hotel elevator is made of glass! So you get to look out into the city as you go up and down, I thought that was pretty cool! Room was spacious, clean and simply yet modern touches. Complimentary waters in the room, along with coffee/coffee maker and a fridge. Microwave located in hotel lobby. And to make it even better when we got back to our room, there was a bottle of champagne and two glasses on ice, complimentary! So overall I enjoyed my stay there and will definitely consider staying again when on the island. PEACE!…
