Discovered hundreds of years ago by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, the great Pagosa hot springs have long been known for their healing powers. Our source, the Mother Spring, is the world’s deepest geothermal hot spring. Her therapeutic water feeds 25 individual hot spring pools. With a range of temperatures and sizes there is a pool to suit every mood- whether you want to swim laps (yes, laps!), take a cold plunge, heat up in the Lobster pot or sip a quiet morning coffee in a secluded corner pool… there is a soak for everyone.

Our Roots Run Deep

It’s been more than 150 years since early settlers came across the Mother Spring, a 75-foot diameter bubbling pool. With the paths of human footprints radiating out from it like spokes on a wheel, they knew they weren’t the first to discover the hot spring. It was the Southern Ute Indian Tribe that first discovered this geothermal motherlode and found replenishment in its waters for generations to follow. In fact, the name Pagosa comes from the Ute word meaning “healing waters.” The medicinal effects of the waters have been studied since the 1860s and people have been drawn to the area “take the waters” since the height of rail travel.
