- This is a good pressing. From what I've read, AK's son has done a fantastic job of finding and procuring first-gen sources of RS material in the late 90s, then putting them to production, which resulted in the 2002 reissues of the RS ABKCO catalog. The pressings since the "vinyl resurgence" have been generous, affordable and high quality. This is just one of them and if you want a good minty copy of Hot Rocks, pick this up. You won't be disappointed.
- There's a lot more detail and clarity on this pressing than I'm used to hearing. The bass guitar on "Paint It Black", the drums on "Get Off Of My Cloud", on and on. Just a really good pressing, flat and quiet, and I love the clear vinyl. Got a new copy of this, still sealed, for $16...great deal!
- I've been listening to one version or another of this record for 40+ years and I will say this is CLEARLY the best sounding issue of them all. Songs that were recorded in mono are mono and songs that were recorded in stereo are stereo, none of that reprocessed crap that they latched onto and issued millions of records in that terrible sound. So terrible. It's very unfortunate that it has taken up till now (Well, 2014) to get a get a good issue of this classic compilation of the Stones.
- Awesome. This is great. It has Mono and Stereo songs where appropriate (based on how they were recorded I guess). You can’t beat this. Get it. The Stones are great. ABKCO did a great job with this.
- Edited 2 years agoGreat packaging and beautiful clear vinyl! Comes with 2 thick plastic inner sleeves (not sure if they are antistatic, they seem to be made out of polyethylene), so far you may be wondering, why I gave it 3 stars if it has many positive features? Because right off the inners, the discs are really filled with surface noise, and after a heavy wet cleaning, the surface noise reduced, but the sound on this 2 lp set is really awful to my ears, sounds really compressed, really had to crank up the volume to get a real punch out of the songs, and at high volumes, the sound distorted and got really muddy. The discs also have passages where my stylus trembles and you can actually hear the frailty and tremor that the stylus is going through (which doesn´t happen with other lp´s). In summary, visually and package wise a great addition to any collection, but in terms of sound quality and mastering it leaves a lot to be desired...
- Many of these tracks are on the Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) album. I have an original version in mono that I find much more enjoyable. It's cleaner. Mick's voice is clear. It's loud and in your face. I grew up with this band so maybe I am just nostalgic for the past, but I don't think so. I've played them back to back several times and the mono first release always sounds so much better to me.
- I grew up listening to this record. My dad had an original copy. My dad passed away when I was in high school and I continued to listen to his records. When I went away to college I didn’t take the records with me and my mom thought I no longer wanted them and gave them away.
Anyway, it’s good to have this record back in my collection 30 years later as I’m getting back into vinyl. I find I’m replacing many of the records that were given away.
This pressing sounds very good. I wish all the Rolling Stone re-issues were this good.
