Rob Zombie is disinterring horror host character Zombo for his Munsters movie

The director announced that "The man... the myth... the legend" will return in his adaptation of the '60s show.

Rob Zombie had some good news today for people who really, really, really like The Munsters. The musician and director announced on Instagram that the character Zombo will be appearing in his upcoming film version of the horror-themed, Fred Gwynne-starring '60s sitcom.

"After 56 years! The man… the myth… the legend returns! The one and only ZOMBO!" Zombie wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of the character.

Who is Zombo? Great question, given the character appeared on just one episode of the show. Originally played by the late actor Louis Nye (The Steve Allen Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Zombo is a TV horror host with whom Eddie Munster (Butch Patrick) becomes enamored to the chagrin of his father Herman (Gwynne).

The original Munsters, about a family of amiable monsters, originally ran on CBS 1964-66.

Last October, Zombie confirmed on Instagram that the movie will star Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa Munster. In March, the director announced that Cassandra Peterson (better known as "Elvira") is playing the role of real estate agent Barbara Carr. The filmmaker has yet to announce who will portray Zombo.

Zombie's previous directing credits include 2003's House of 1000 Corpses, his 2007 remake of John Carpenter's Halloween, and 2012's Lords of Salem.
