Jeff Johnson Chicago Sun-Times Anderson does the Butterfield legacy a service with "Horn From the Heart." Rated: 3/4 Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal It's full of music that makes the case for its subject's pre-eminence... and has an interesting slant on the issue of cultural appropriation. Nov 8, 2018 Full Review Greg Kot Chicago Tribune The anecdotes weave an entrancing narrative, though the movie could have benefited from more vintage performance footage of Butterfield's band at the height of its powers. Rated: 3/4 Nov 8, 2018 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review The film honors him, his heroes, and the city and institutions that featured them faithfully. Music lovers and amateur historians should consider this a must-see. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 1, 2020 Full Review Daniel Eagan Film Journal International In-depth look at harmonica player Paul Butterfield, who bridged the gap between blues and rock in the late 1960s.= Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Tom Bedford Film Inquiry Horn From The Heart is a fine documentary. It follows Paul Butterfield's career in a compelling and caring way, enough so that you don't need to know the music to appreciate the story. Aug 13, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Although I knew the name, I wasn't aware of what a great blues man Paul Butterfield was throughout his career. Nice overview of the man and his music. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I learned a lot about a musician that I never listened to before. It's too bad that there are so few videos of the man and his bands. Yes, someone on the road this much was not the best husband or father. Strange that someone on the road this much has so little footage for us to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is a goldmine of progressive music history from the 1965-75 era. Thru private viewings over the last year before it's release, musicians worldwide are ecstatic over this film. Not just a documentry, it's full of music and comments from some of our favorite musicians. I watched with 2 non-musician friends and they loved it as well.
