What travelers are saying
- MJ_ontheBAYHonolulu, HI16 contributionsDiamond Head is an Oahu icon that mixes some of the most beautiful views from mauka to makai, interesting history, good exercise and at the end of the day.. you’re hiking a volcano (how cool is that?!).
Recommend planning ahead with plenty of water, shoes with good traction and sunscreen since you do have to work a little for the summit beauty with a steep elevation gain and you’re completely exposed to the sun almost the entire time. Going in the morning will be less hot, but is usually more crowded.
If you’re local, it’s an easy, cost-free entry at your desired time with your HI ID, but if you’re coming from the mainland or elsewhere, ensure you plan ahead and arrange your entry reservation online and determine your logistical approach (self-park vs. Uber or taxi, etc.) The parking lot in the crater can fill up quick, especially on weekends. Alternatively, you can hike in from outside the crater, but this also means a much longer outing and may fatigue those who don’t hike often.
Bottom line: Be smart with proper preparation and enjoy this Oahu must-see attraction that deserves every bit of its appeal and notoriety.Written May 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
