How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

The Allmusic.com review of this states, "Released in 1990, during one of the Burritos' occasional hiatuses, HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS 1979-'82 consists of 23 fairly rough demos of these Beland/Guilbeau songs, most of which appear on those two albums (referring to HEARTS ON THE LINE and SUNSET SUNDOWN, on Curb Records). As expected, these rough-edged versions are far superior to the glossy final versions which were finally released." I've never heard the Curb LPs, neither of which, tellingly, seem to have ever been reissued on CD but if these are "rough-edged versions", I shudder to think what slick monstrosities the songs ended up becoming. John Beland & Gib Guilbeau are both dab hands at penning a good country song so the problem doesn't lie there; nor in the musicianship. It's all just too slick for my taste. I'm a big fan of both Gib and Sneaky Pete but this one's going to get flogged at the used record store.

As a long term fan of all Byrd related material, I knew the link to this was very tenuous, but with 23 tracks it seemed a good sample of what the group had become.
This is more an introduction to John Beland than the Burritos, but since they've changed line-ups so often it's a valid addition to their history.
Beland excels at sad songs, so it's not a record to listen to if you're depressed, but at any other time the feelings will draw you in and leave you wanting to hear more.
My favourite tracks are "Another Shade of Grey", a great example of simplicity with 1 voice and 1 guitar on different speakers, "I swear I Don't Miss Her Anymore" & "Why Must The Ending Always Be So Sad"
