Product description
This package focuses mainly on Lesley Gore with tracks recorded between 1964 and 1969 but with 2 fantastic bonus tracks recorded in the 70s and 80s that have NEVER been released. The major attraction of this package is the many first time to cd master mixes and also some very rare stereo mixes from the Mercury vaults. Amazingly, the collector can hear the chatter at the end of Look of Love; this is also the original single mix not issued on cd before. We also feature 2 of Lesley s biggest hits You Don t Own Me and Judy s Turn To Cry in Italian (with more studio chatter.) This is a refreshing collection of Lesley Gore goodies with mostly rare stereo mixes never before issued on cd, which makes it a must for fans of 60 s pop, girl groups and of course, Lesley Gore. 15 of the tracks are in glorious STEREO

What a surprise! I was not sure what to make of this cd when first advertised. Let me say that if you are a Lesley Gore fan(atic) you need this cd. The mixes and sound are superb and it is a wonderful adjunct to the Bear Family box set where some of the sound sources were a little suspect. On this disc the background is SO quiet it's scary. Yet, the tracks do not sound like they have had the sonic life sucked out of them. To the contrary, they sound terrific! Track 1 'Look of love', the sleighbell version goes right to the studio breakdown. The stereo is not as wide as the original mix, but you grow and learn from th difference. Track 2 'All of my life' sounds sensational! Much different than the noisy old mix (one that also had a loud 'pop' in some transfers), the strings are pushed a little farther back to let the backing band shine through. It's a little more jazzier sounding and closer to the way she sang it on 'Shindig'. A revelation. Tracks 3-6 are so quiet, it's a pleasure to listen to them again. Track 7 - Summer and Sandy is for once is NOT shrill. This is the 1st time I've been able to listen to this song all the way through. What a successful rescue mission! Tracks 8&9 are again very quiet in the background noise. Track 10 'Small talk' is still in mono, but very nicely transferred. Track 11 'He gives me love' is balanced a bit differently than the "Golden hits vol.2" lp - Very little separation - sounds like the 2 tracks were moved closer together to almost mono. Again, different and very listenable. Track 12 'I can't make it without you' Excellent wide multi-track mix. Tracks 13-14 '98.6/Lazy day' & 'Summer symphony' - nice mono mixes Tracks 15-16 The Italian versions of 'You don't own me' and 'Judy's turn to cry' are unreleased in the US. They were in the German Bear Family box set in mono. But here there is extra to savor - a bit of studio chatter and both are in glorious wide stereo! Tracks 17-18 are later, unreleased tracks including the often requested "America's sweetheart" Wonderful package with super detailed notes by Brian Gari. Buy it, Gore fans and everyone else, too!

Lesley Gore fans and curious listeners BEWARE. Australia is a haven for pirated CDs and this is another example of a bootleg from down under. This CD was not officially licensed by Universal Music, the owner of Lesley Gore's original Mercury Records masters of the 1960s that make up the bulk of this CD. Additionally, all of the Mercury tracks are available on better, legitimate releases such as the recent Ace Records UK issue of Lesley's "Magic Colors" lost album with bonus tracks -- as well as being available on the comprehensive Bear Family Records boxed set containing all existing Lesley Gore Mercury recordings. That said, there are 2 true rarities on this CD -- a couple of demo recordings by Lesley from the late 1970s and late 1980s. One would be best off by just purchasing downloads of those two oddities and avoid purchasing or otherwise supporting this unauthorized release which also contains cheesy liner notes and packaging.
