A little overpriced, £7 entrance fee £4 a bag for lavender, £1 per sunflower. Nice ice cream the honey and lavender was lovely. Good farm shop was hoping for some lavender honey but they don't sell it. The class rooms were fun and so full of historic information. Great value for money we booked and paid for a child , accompanying adults free. Amazing its free entry, felt duty bound to spend some money in the cafe, even that was difficult with a very reasonable menu! Thankfully donations welcomed on the way out so could show my appreciation! - Wendy P1 contributionFirst time to The Factory Playhouse Theatre, to see 9 to 5 . Absolutely brilliant, loved every minute of it. Enjoyed the cheese board and pizza and a few wines before the performance. But wow wow wow the show was fantastic and I didn't want it to end. - AlinaRCHertfordshire1,537 contributionsSt Paul's Walden Bury is only a few miles from Stevenage and Hitchin but feels very rural. It is a survivor of a once popular style of garden, almost all swept away by Capability Brown and the landscape movement. The only comparable garden in the area is Wrest Park. Long hornbeam hedges shape viewpoints towards follies, statues and points in the landscape (like the church). The hedges enclose garden rooms with ponds, more statues and glades. In between these formal elements are woodland plantings which includes flowering shrubs, camellias out now soon to be followed by azaleas and rhododendrons. At the moment the main colour is around the lake, with the cool weather keeping the daffodils lasting very well. The lake is large enough to attract birds, with little grebe and tufted duck on our visit, as well as many woodland birds like woodpeckers.
There were quite a few families the day we visited and older children were enjoying exploring. Its a large garden and takes a good couple of hours to look around, and no issues keeping distance from other visitors. The woodland areas and hedges are all very well maintained. The Victorian garden near the house is more tricky and they just don't have the same resources that National Trust etc. do to keep this more intensive area at its best. The garden is normally only open for a few days for Yellow Book Charity scheme, it has more regular openings in 2021. Looking forward to going back for bluebells and azaleas in a few weeks. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - JMCSTLSaint Louis, MO6,003 contributionsMy wife & I stopped in Hitchin on our first day in England, and the highlight of our mid-week visit to the medieval market town was a self-guided tour of St Mary's Church. Reading one or more of the many internet descriptions of this historic building (the initial parts of the church having been erected in the 13th Century with most of the rest from the 14th & 15th Centuries) would give visitors a better appreciation of the fine details of the beautiful old church as it stands today. It was built & damaged & rebuilt on several occasions over the Middle Ages, each time adding more interesting structures & decorative features to admire. Before or after exploring the interior spaces (give yourself at least a half-hour to wander & inspect from floors to ceilings), be sure to walk around the outside of the building to see the gargoyles & chimeras adorning the façade as well as the old churchyard cemetery.Written 23 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It will continue until 30 June so try to go along and you won't be disappointed. - ElleC5 contributionsCompared to Ware it has great opening times and is good value for money as you can stay all day. But what is the point of the security guards? We have been on three occasions and all I've ever seen them do is stand on their phones in the shade by the cafe or in the smoking area at the back of the field every half hour. Meanwhile all around us people were just smoking everywhere and drinking bottles of beer unchallenged. Popped on by to pick up 8 of the loveliest loaves.
A delicious sourdough which really complimented our dishes.

We enjoyed a very entertaining Midsummer Nights Dream. Seating comfortable. Nice reasonably priced bar. Convenient on line ticket purchase speeds things up. Lots of parking right outside the door.
