History Revisited: The Remixes

Talk Talk

About “History Revisited: The Remixes”

Created as a companion piece to the previous year’s greatest hits album Natural History: The Very Best of Talk Talk, History Revisited: The Remixes collects various remixes that EMI had put out throughout 1990 and 1991 to promote the earlier compilation. Also included is the dub mix of “Happiness is Easy” that was included on the 12" release of “I Don’t Believe in You”, as well as newly-commissioned remixes of “Dum Dum Girl” and “Talk Talk”. The remix album was advertised as a modernization of Talk Talk’s most commercially successful material, refitted for new trends in dance music at the turn of the ‘90s.

However, the album quickly landed EMI in hot water: Talk Talk were already displeased that a greatest hits album had been made without their permission, and were even more incensed by History Revisited, which was not only made without their knowledge, but also made radical deviations from the original songs. Consequently, the band successfully sued their old label once again, resulting in History Revisited being permanently removed from print. The material on it would never resurface again apart from the remixed “Happiness is Easy”, which would reappear on the 1998 compilation Asides Besides.
