The Chatham County Regiment was a regiment in the North Carolina militia, under the authority of the Hillsborough District Brigade. The regiment recruited out of Chatham County, of which it shares its name.
History[]
The Chatham County Regiment was one of the 35 existing county militias to be authorized as a regiment of the North Carolina militia by the North Carolina Provincial Congress on September 9, 1775. It was originally ordered to assemble two infantry companies.[1] The officers were appointed and commissioned by the Governor of North Carolina. The regiment was subordinated to the Hillsboro District Brigade of North Carolina militia on May 4, 1776. The regiment was disbanded at the end of the war.
