This was the first extra on the Blu-Ray for Where the Wild Things Are.
This is apparently based on a Children’s book. I can see the resemblance, but that still doesn’t mean I wasn’t tripped out by everything I was watching.
I can’t lie though, I loved how strange it all was.
Meryl Streep’s best performance?
Fuck.
This was an entertaining short with a very odd visual style. The quirky tone seemed to match the Maurice Sendak source material. I appreciate a movie that uses puppets well!
An extra on the Where the Wild Things Are BD, it's a wonderful adaptation of Maurice Sendak's personal favorite of his stories. Fantastical, bizarre, and bittersweet, with some really striking puppetry/ animation.
NOTE: How often does Meryl Streep think about her time on this movie? How many HIGGLETY PIGGLETY questions has she answered in her career? Does she even remember this movie? If I could ask Meryl two questions one would be about this and the other would be about THE RIVER WILD.
It’s a shame this was only on the WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE Blu-Ray because this is an impressively shot short. The animation of the dog is astounding and the way the eyes are handled so effectively convey the emotions. What’s most baffling is how big the world looks from the dog’s POV. The street buildings look colossal. Even the Cat Man dude looked huge. How is that so…
found the cover of this book on the sidewalk today so naturally discovered its film adaptation and this is the type of shit you watch in the early developmental stages of your life that you repress so far down in your subconscious because of how scarring it was to the point that you don’t know if it was ever actually real or not until one night when you’re grown you suddenly wake up in a cold sweat and it all comes back to you and you can finally know peace as you’re released from the subconscious haunting that has followed you throughout your adolescence
I would have simply fed Baby to the lion and left, but I guess Jennie is kinder than I am
insane production, part of me is glad weird shit like this gets made with a whole crew and everything and the other part of me wants this to be buried and forgotten
