Here, There and Everywhere!

By Jenny Frost - 17 April 2024

Budding designers from Gray's School of Art present 'Here, There and Everywhere', a pop up shop opening in the heart of Aberdeen city centre. Gray's student, Catriona McLean, tells RG View what to expect from the new pop up.

We are really excited to be opening 'Here,There and Everywhere’, a pop up shop in Aberdeen's Trinity Centre. I'm one of a team of Stage 2 Fashion & Textile students from Gray's who have set up the shop to raise money for next year's Graduate Fashion Show.

The shop will have a variety of handmade goods on offer from knitwear such as scarves, balaclavas and ties to bags, ceramics, keychains, t-shirts and jewellery. We will also have a collection of zines created by the class on show and for sale. Visitors will also have the chance to view some of our work from the past year including our portfolios and final garments.

This is such a great opportunity to create designs and artworks with a consumer in mind. We have been responsible for all organisation of the shop, which has given us an insight into what is involved in setting up an event like this. We have designed the space as well as advertising, which has given us invaluable experience in visual merchandising and promotion, both of which are vital to our experiences moving forward as upcoming designers.

We have the opportunity to share our work and designs with the people of Aberdeen and this is vital to maintaining the creative community within the city. It gives people an insight into what we do as design students at Gray’s, and also utilises empty units within the city centre which is key to supporting the vibrancy of our city. We hope it may lead to similar events in the future.

Being part of  a team, organising and creating this event has been challenging yet exciting for us as a class. We have been able to work together to create products that reflect our own person design identities, as well as advertising our work and what we do at Gray’s as a whole to the people of Aberdeen.

We feel it is invaluable to share our creative ventures within the city to maintain the amazing creative communities we have and can’t wait for anyone and everyone to come along as see what we have to offer!

The pop up opens in the ground floor of the Trinity Centre, Friday 3 - 6pm on Friday 19 April and on Saturday 20 April 10am - 5pm.
