Henry Cavill Makes His Bold Opinion About Taylor Swift Clear

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

It's time to add Henry Cavill to the list of celebrity Swifties. The actor revealed in an interview with E! News that he is quite a fan of the pop star, while talking about his newest role.

In an interview promoting his new film, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, 40-year-old Cavill opened up about the film and its ties to pop singer, Taylor Swift. The film, directed by Guy Ritchie, shares the same release date of April 19 with Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department. "[Guy] is a massive Swiftie. Yeah, he was super excited about that date in particular and he was like, 'You know what? Let's work together, let's work in sync,'" Cavill recalls.

In the film, Cavill plays the role of a leader who thrives on chaos and explosions, heading a motley crew of government-approved assassins. Their mission: to severely disrupt the Nazi operations. Cavill is joined by co-stars Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Eiza González, portraying characters inspired by actual WWII Allied figures.

Cavill goes on to explain how this isn't the first time he's been tied in with Swift. Argylle, a 2024 spy thriller starring the Superman alum, has sparked curiosity due to its peculiar backstory which fans tried to connect with the 34-year-old singer. Fans speculated late last year that Swift may have authored Argylle under a pseudonym. However, as reported by Vanity Fair's sources, this is not true.

As for his own opinion on Swift, Cavill makes one thing perfectly clear: "I was never not a Swiftie, she's magnificent." Tons of other celebrities have considered themselves fans, with many attending Swift's Eras Tour in 2023. Celebs like Kerry Washington, Amanda Kloots, Jeff Goldblum, Halsey, Sydney Sweeney, Cameron Diaz, Tiffany Haddish and Zoe Saldana, among others, have shared their attendance and excitement on social media.

Correction 4/2/2024, 7:30 a.m. ET: This article was updated to reflect that 'Argylle' had already been released in 2024.
