Small parents. Big trouble.

Felix's school is haunted again, only this time it's not the benevolent spirit of school founder Otto Leonhard and the nuisance he caused, but the hated and long-since dead Director Hulda Stingbeard. A coincidence causes the former shrunken and skeletonized school principle to rise again. When she manages to return to real life she almost defeats Otto Leonhard, manages to shrink Dr. Schmitt-Gössenwein and Felix' parents, and takes over the school. It takes Felix, Ella and their gang to set the levers in motion to save the school and bring Dr. Schmitt-Gössenwein and his parents back to their original size again.

I watched Help, I Shrunk My Parents as a volunteer, helping with the youth jury at Leeds Young Film Festival 2019. The plot is rather silly, but the production design is bold and bright so it's all accentuated silliness. The fun reversal of a boy having to look after his rather childish parents is a real highlight, and honestly if the film was just that, I'd have found this a very easy watch. The last school-based film I saw at a festival (Bad Genius) blew me away but this skews a lot younger and therefore didn't grip me as much. Still, this festival isn't for me, and judging by the occasional laughter from the jury and the feedback I collected at the end, this seems to work well for its target audience.

More colorful and imaginative than its predecessor, Help I Shrunk my Teacher. The introduction of a villain in this one actually also gave it more of a legitimate movie feel rather than the feel of a Nickelodeon special. Yet there are still many bogus points to this flick geared towards kids, including plenty of lame lines pointing at more weak writing, several plot holes and a musical number ending the film on an incredibly goofy note. It might not be a bad watch for kids, but I can't say I'm a fan of these European kids flicks.

From Germany, "Help, I Shrunk My Parents" is an energetic fantasy whose color and good-natured sense of self help it stand out. Following up the not-as-appealing "Help, I Shrunk My Teacher," the sequel finds reanimated, shrunken skeletons causing problems for a school with a reputation for magical goings-on. The story is uptempo and family-friendly, and the production has appealing bounce. It is a fun piece of work that is not too kid-friendly as to put off any adults also watching.

some masterful moments but the part at the end where Felix and his parents yell "Dubai party!!" after not wanting to go to Dubai the entire movie and then all the characters put on culturally insensitive costumes and started dancing to EDM kinda confused me

„Hilfe, ich hab meine Eltern geschrumpft“ ist eine erwartbare Fortsetzung, die man sich durchaus anschauen kann. Die Inszenierung funktioniert ziemlich gut, das Drehbuch fällt dagegen leider ziemlich ab. Dafür hatten die Kinder wieder sehr viel Spaß und das ist ja schließlich die Hauptsache. Tut nicht weh, ist aber auch kein Muss: 6/10 Punkte.

Obviously the kids are older, this was released 3 years after the first, so why Why WHY use a girl to voice the lead male? Yikes. Completely distracted me the entire time.
Again only a dubbed version in the US from Echo Bridge.
