von Moltke is a famous Prussian/German general from the 19th century whose quotes are still commonly known today, like "no plan survives first contact with the enemy". The nazis had something of a cult of Prussian and German culture. Despite that, von Moltke's descendant opposed the nazis and founded the Kreisau Circle, which had vaguely democratic to Christian socialist, anti-racist ideals.
